Curtis Blaydes’ outing with Tom Aspinall resulted in an anticlimactic finish at UFC London.

The number fourth-ranked contender at heavyweight, Blaydes went into the bout looking to extend his win streak to three against a record-breaking rising prospect in Aspinall at UFC Fight Night 208: Blaydes v Aspinall on July 23 at the O2 Arena in London.

Aspinall went right to work with an explosive start to the main event. It didn’t last long as he succumbed to an unfortunate knee injury on a step back in the opening seconds of the fight, calling for a stop to the main event.

Blaydes won the fight by TKO within 15 seconds in the first round.

Paddy Pimblett earned a well-deserved victory over Jordan Leavitt at UFC London.

Coming off a win over Rodrigo Vargas in March, Pimblett was looking to continue his unbeaten start in the promotion against Leavitt, who had only dropped one by a decision under the UFC banner. He clashed with Leavitt at UFC Fight Night 208: Blaydes v Aspinall on July 23 at the O2 Arena in London.

Pimblett started off with a methodical approach to striking but was soon taken down by Leavitt, who kept him against the fence. Leavitt picked Pimblett up and slammed him down but Pimblett maintained a deep guillotine. Following a grappler’s delight of a first round, Pimblett landed a massive knee in the clinch that led to the submission finish.

McCann and Goldy got things off to a fiery start early in the fight. Both ladies were exchanging strikes before Goldy pushed McCann off the fence in the hopes of securing a takedown. Goldy looked good in the clinch landing a few strikes but McCann’s danger on the feet was evident from the get-go.

“Meatball” mirrored her spinning back elbow finish from earlier this year to secure a TKO win in the first round. McCann continued her impressive run at UFC Fight Night 208: Blaydes v Aspinall on July 23 at the O2 Arena in London.

Jonathan ‘JSP’ Pearce claimed an impressive TKO victory over Makwan ‘Mr Finland’ on the preliminary card of UFC London.

Makwan Amirkhani started the fight strong, taking Pearce down and searching for another classic anaconda submission. ‘Mr Finland’ looked very close to finishing the fight, despite being opened up by elbows from Pearce. However, ‘JSP’ was able to survive to the second round.

As often happens in Amirkhani fights, the Finn was unable to continue fighting at such a high output. Pearce took him down, pinning him against the cage, and began unloading a blitz of elbows and punches. The strikes continued until the referee was forced to step in.

In the opening bout of UFC London, Denmark’s Nicolas Dalby claimed a unanimous decision victory over Claudio Silva.

Dalby found himself in a sticky situation in round one, as Silva’s grappling prowess saw the Brazilain take the fight to the ground and quickly move to full mount. However, Dalby was able to neutralize any fight ending threat from his opponent, and survived till round 2. Silva initially started the second round in similar fashion, taking Dalby down early on.

However, ‘Danish Dynamite’ reversed position, and climbed back to his feet. It then became apparent that Silva was beginning to fatigue. Dalby let loose with his hands, and came extremely close to finishing the feet. Round three was more of the same, allowing the Dane to capture a unanimous decision win.

Amanda Lemos earned a well-deserved victory over Michelle Waterson at UFC Long Island.

Coming off a loss to Marina Rodriguez last May, Waterson was looking to get back to the win column having dropped three out of her last four with a sole win over Angela Hill by a split decision. She clashed with Lemos at tonight’s UFC on ABC 3: Ortega v Rodriguez at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.

Both ladies got off to a cautious start with Lemos getting the better in stand-up. A failed takedown attempt by Waterson got her trapped in a guillotine choke to get finished in round two.
