The UFC San Antonio card continues to shape up as a lightweight bout between Alexander Hernandez and Francisco Trinaldo has now been added to the event.

The card takes place July 20 at the AT&T Center and despite having a number of fights initially announced for the card, the UFC was struggling with a main event. There were plans for a women’s flyweight title fight before UFC middleweight Jared Cannonier recently revealed there were plans for him to headline the card to no avail.

In the end, a pivotal welterweight headliner between Rafael dos Anjos and Leon Edwards was booked. And now, the UFC has announced Hernandez will be facing Trinaldo on the card as well.

Hernandez, who has fought in Texas for most of his professional career, will be returning to action for the first time since his TKO loss to Donald Cerrone in January. He was previously unbeaten in eight fights leading up to that setback.

As for Trinaldo, the Brazilian has alternated between wins and losses, but most recently defeated Evan Dunham via TKO back in September. With Hernandez ranked No. 13 in the lightweight rankings, a win could see Trinaldo return to the top 15.

Here is how the card looks as of now:

  • Rafael dos Anjos vs. Leon Edwards
  • Alexander Hernandez vs. Franciso Trinaldo
  • Aleksei Oleinik vs. Walt Harris
  • Andrei Arlovski vs. Ben Rothwell
  • James Vick vs. Dan Hooker
  • Greg Hardy vs. Juan Adams
  • Raquel Pennington vs. Irene Aldana
  • Sam Alvey vs. Klidson Abreu
  • Alex Caceres vs. Steven Peterson
  • Domingo Pilarte vs. Felipe Colares
  • Mario Bautista vs. Jin Soo Son
  • Ray Borg vs. Gabriel Silva
  • Roxanne Modafferi vs. Liz Carmouche

It looks like UFC San Antonio finally has its main event.

Yahoo Sports’ Kevin Iole has reported that former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos will meet Leon Edwards in the main event. The show goes down on Saturday, July 20, 2019, at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas. It had previously been reported that the UFC wanted to move Luke Rockhold vs. Jan Blachowicz from UFC 239 to main event the show.

However, Rockhold had a Ralph Lauren Polo commercial that day, which couldn’t be moved. As a result, Rockhold vs. Blachowicz will remain on UFC 239:

“Main event for UFC on ESPN 4 in San Antonio finalized: It will be Rafael dos Anjos vs Leon Edwards, five rounds. UFC wanted Blachowicz-Rockhold to move there, but Rockhold is filming a Ralph Lauren Polo commercial that day which couldn’t be moved.”

This matchup is an interesting one considering Edwards recently claimed “RDA” turned down a fight against him. Whatever the case, both sides have come to terms on a deal that will see them headline the San Antonio show.

In addition to this, MMA Fighting has learned that Alexander Hernandez, a local, will be competing on the show too. He’ll be taking on veteran Francisco Trinaldo. Cageside Press was first to report the matchup.

Valentina Shevchenko’s next UFC women’s flyweight title defense might come sooner than expected.

According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, the UFC is looking to book Shevchenko vs. Liz Carmouche in the main event of UFC San Antonio on July 20:

“UFC needs a main event for 7/20 in San Antonio. One option that has been discussed recently is Valentina Shevchenko vs. Liz Carmouche for the women’s flyweight title. Carmouche beat Shevchenko back in 2010. That was Shevchenko’s first pro loss.”

UFC on ESPN 4 takes place from the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas on July 20. Shevchenko is currently on a three-fight win streak. That win streak includes wins over Priscila Cachoeira, Joanna J?drzejczyk, and Jessica Eye. “The Bullet” captured the vacant flyweight title against J?drzejczyk in December.

Shevchenko’s only losses came against Amanda Nunes at 135 pounds. The latter being for the women’s bantamweight title, a fight she lost via split decision but many believe she should’ve won. In her last fight, Shevchenko successfully defended her title against Jessica Eye at UFC 238. Shevchenko uncorked a hellacious second-round head kick knockout for the win.

Outside of the UFC, the last woman to defeat Shevchenko was Liz Carmouche. Carmouche defeated Shevchenko in 2010 under the C3 Fights banner via TKO due to a doctor stoppage. Currently, Carmouche is on a two-fight win streak at 125 pounds. Those victories came against Jennifer Maia and Lucie Pudilová.
