Round 1: Martinez lands a few kicks. Grant returns with his own. Martinez continues to blast head kicks. He lands a big leg kick soon after. Grant lands a front kick to the body before seeing a spinning wheel kick to the head blocked. Martinez lands another leg kick. Martinez connects with a left hook as Grant advances forward. Martinez lands two big leg kicks in a row. Grant misses another spinning wheel kick. Martinez blocks a head kick. Grant misses another spinning back kick. Martinez responds with a jab. Grant lands a big right. Martinez drops Grant with a big left hand! Grant survives to the end.

Round 2: Grant is putting the pressure on early in the second round. He seems to have caught Martinez and goes for a takedown. Martinez does well to defend though and they return to striking. Grant is the much more active striker but Martinez starts to throw more. Grant connects with a right in a combo but Martinez eats it. Grant throws a body shot and follows it up with a huge left hook that drops Martinez! Grant goes for the kill and gets the finish!

Yet another first round finish lands at UFC Vegas 21. Returning from a knockout loss of his own to Johnny Walker, former LFA light heavyweight champion, Ryan Spann scored an eventual first round knockout victory over the tricky finisher, Misha Cirkunov.

Dropping the Canadian with a heavy right hand in the opening couple of exchanges, the Texan then stunned Cirkunov again, dropping the talented grappler before forcing the issue with referee, Mark Smith with a series of subsequent ground strikes.

Known for his submission prowess, Spann entered the matchup with eleven submission stoppages — notching his fifth career knockout against Cirkunov, as well as managing his nineth win in his last ten professional walks, and now five under the UFC’s banner.

Next up on the UFC Vegas 21 main card is a flyweight bout between Manel Kape and Matheus Nicolau.

Round 1: Nicolau opens with an impactful leg kick. A lot of feinting since before Nicolau lands another leg kick. Kape is slowly backing Nicolau against the fence. Nicolau goes for a takedown after getting the body lock and has him down. Nicolau passes to half guard but Kape slowly gets up. Nicolau sinks in a guillotine but Kape escapes. Kape misses a spinning back kick. The fight goes to the ground soon after with Nicolau ending the round in Kape’s guard.

Round 2: Nicolau is backed up against the fence. He lands a body kick. Kape lands an uppercut which seems to have hurt Nicolau. Nicolau fails with a takedown attempt. Kape is swinging and throwing much more volume. Kape somewhat drops Nicolau with a left. Nicolau lands a nice right but Kape eats it. Kape lands a body shot. Kape gets take endn down but gets up to his feet right after. He lands a leg kick on Nicolau. He lands a couple of combos as Nicolau is backed up against the fence. Kape drops the pace a bit as Nicolau lands some strikes. Kape slips on a missed spinning back kick attempt as the round ends.

Round 3: Nicolau has a promising start as he lands punches and kicks and looks much more composed compared to the previous round. Nicolau goes for a takedown but Kape does well to defend it. Nicolau drops Kape with a leg kick. Both fighters start to swing now with Nicolau showing much more confidence to engage. It’s a much closer fight now. Kape starts to take over and lands a big knee to the head. Kape lands another one to the stomach. Nicolau connects with a spinning elbow. The fight comes to an end.

Official result: Matheus Nicolau defeats Manel Kape via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).

Well, here we go again. One week removed from UFC 259’s disqualification debacle between Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling, we’ve got more controversy at UFC Vegas 21. Opening the main card, Eryk Anders vs. Darren Stewart ends in a ‘No Contest’ after the former lands a late first round illegal knee to a grounder, Stewart.

Dropping the British puncher on the feet, Anders swamped for what appeared to be an age, with referee, Herb Dean allowing Sterwart to work to a better position. Attempting to finish Stewart, Anders threw a knee to a grounded Stewart hwo had right foot, left knee, and left hand planted to the Octagon canvas.

Separating the two, Dean called for the Octagon-side doctor to assess Stewart, who confirmed his intentions to continue fighting. After calling the Poplar native to walk toward him, the physician eventually informed Dean that Stewart could no longer continue, resulting in an end to the matchup. Per the broadcast, UFC VP of affairs, Marc Ratner detailed how the fight ended in a ‘No Contest’ rather than a disqualification as the fight failed to see beyond the second round, as well as the fact that the illegal blow wasn’t deemed intentional.

Kicking off the UFC Vegas 21 main card is a middleweight contest between Eryk Anders and Darren Stewart.

Round 1: A lot of feinting early on. Stewart lands a leg kick. Stewart lands another while Anders looks to land a counter punch. After a flurry, it appears Stewart has hurt Anders. Anders clearly shows signs he’s hurt and goes for a takedown. Stewart is defending so far against the fence as he lands two knees. Anders separates and lands some big strikes. He gets the takedown soon after but Stewart gets to his feet. However, Anders unleashes a flurry and proceeds to drop Stewart. He looks to be getting the finish but Stewart does well to just about survive. Anders trips him and proceeds to knee him on the ground which is an illegal strike. The second week in a row! The doctor waves it off after deeming Stewart unable to continue.

Official result: Eryk Anders and Darren Stewart ends in a no contest (R1, 4:37).
