Dana White is none too pleased with matchmaker Sean Shelby at the moment.

Last Saturday’s UFC Vegas 24 event saw Robert Whittaker cruise to a victory over Kelvin Gastelum. However, the event didn’t go off without a hitch. The planned co-main event was to see Jeremy Stephens take on Drakkar Klose in an exciting lightweight match-up. But an incident at the weigh-ins the night before prevented that from happening.

When Stephens and Klose came face-to-face on Friday, ‘Lil’ Heathen’ gave his opponent a shove. It was hard enough that the unsuspecting Klose was diagnosed with a concussion and cervical sprain. Despite his best efforts to go though with the fight, Klose was pulled from the card just minutes before the first fight took place.

With White away for a family event, Shelby was overseeing the weigh-ins. In an interview with TSN, White said he believes Shelby should have seen the altercation coming (H/T MMA Junkie).

“He was coming in hot, and it’s Jeremy Stephens. He’s a savage,” White said on Monday. “I mean, yeah, we’re not standing there to look good and take pictures. We are there to make sure that doesn’t happen.”

“Sean Shelby missed that one. Sean Shelby, you know, Sean and I see the thing differently,” White said. “I saw it on social media and called him immediately. I was at my daughter’s … I was in Orlando at the ESPN cheerleading competition. I saw the thing happen on social media and I called Sean and was like, ‘Dude, where was your head on that one?’”

While it remains unclear Klose is going to be forced to the sidelines for, here’s hoping he’s able to make a quick recovery and the UFC can rebook the bout ASAP. The stylistic matchup between the two was already near guaranteed to produce fireworks, so who knows what could happen between the two now that there’s legitimate beef involved.

Do you agree with Dana White that Sean Shelby dropped the ball?

Kelvin Gastelum is not giving up on his dreams of becoming a champion.

Gastelum returned to the loss column following a unanimous decision defeat to former champion Robert Whittaker in the UFC Vegas 24 headliner this past weekend.

Despite doing well to last the full five rounds as he took some big shots, Gastelum was mostly dominated by Whittaker who won 50-45 on all three judges’ scorecards.

It was a big blow for Gastelum as a win would have put him right in title contention. Instead, it now puts him at 1-4 in his last five outings.

However, he is only looking at the positives as he released a statement.

“Getting an onslaught of amazing messages and I’m glad ppl enjoyed the fight,” Gastelum wrote on social media. “Thank you all for sending even the slightest positive gesture and messages. I still believe I can get the job done and be one of the best! I wouldn’t say that just to say it, I believe with my heart.

“I am learning so much from my opponents and I will make the necessary adjustments for the next battle. We’re on to the next one.”

What do you think is next for Gastelum?

Drakkar Klose suffered a number of issues due to the push he received from Jeremy Stephens.

The pair were scheduled to compete in a lightweight co-main event at UFC Vegas 24 last night. However, the fight was called off after Klose had to pull out with the reason stemming from Stephens pushing him during the weigh-in faceoffs.

As it turned out, Klose suffered a cervical sprain of the neck due to extreme whiplash while he also got concussed.

“Per Drakkar Klose’s team, they just got their CT scan results back:He suffered a cervical sprain of the neck and a concussion as a result of the push. No sign of dehydration or anything that could come from a bad weight cut.”

To make matters worse, he woke up the next day with a migraine and nausea before ended up puking a couple hours later.

The fight is expected to be rebooked soon, but it’s certainly not a good look for Stephens or even the UFC for that matter. Hopefully, the former is reprimanded in some form.
