Ulberg faced Nchukwi in the featured preliminary bout on the UFC Vegas 57 card. He was looking to earn a second-straight victory following a unanimous decision win over Fabio Cherant back at UFC 271.

Ulberg quickly pushed the pace on the feet and hit Nchukwi with a stiff jab that badly wobbled him. He followed it up with a series of hooks that put a quick stop to the fight in the first round.

Rising UFC lightweights Mateusz Gamrot and Arman Tsarukyan share the same ambitions heading into their main event tonight.

In an exciting all-European headline matchup built for the hardcore fans, #11-ranked Tsarukyan and #12-ranked Gamrot will collide at UFC Vegas 57 in what be both men’s main-event debuts.

Given their apparent struggle to secure opponents, they’ve turned to each other to solve those issues, something that fans will no doubt be thankful for should they deliver the thriller that many are expecting.

The pair enter the Las Vegas-held event in impressive form. While Tsarukyan has won five straight since a debut loss to Islam Makhachev, Gamrot has had a similarly-impressive resurgence following an unsuccessful arrival in the Octagon, emerging victorious in three consecutive outings since a narrow decision defeat to Guram Kutateladze.

With both men’s active streaks, as well as the confidence in their ability to compete with the best at 155 pounds, they’re anticipating lofty rank rises courtesy of a victory later tonight.

During his appearance at UFC Vegas 57 media day on Wednesday, the Polish lightweight suggested that whoever has their hand raised should find themselves opposite a top-five opponent next time out.

“Doesn’t matter who wins on Saturday night, I think the winner deserves top five next,” said Gamrot.

That sentiment was echoed by Tsarukyan during his own pre-fight interaction with the media. The Russian-Armenian, who believes his victory over Joel Álvarez earlier this year should have netted him a top-10 spot, is expecting a sizable jump up the lightweight ladder with a finish, perhaps even into the divisional top five.

“After this fight, I should be in top five, probably number six, number five. You guys gotta help me after this fight, talk about me a lot,” said Tsarukyan. “I beat Joel Álvarez but my rank didn’t go very high. But I thought like, Álvarez, he’s good fighter. I beat (him) very easy. I thought I’d get like, number seven, six.

“I hope after this fight, I got to be in top five, you know? Because Gamrot, he is good fighter. I will stop him and I will get in top five,” added Tsarukyan. “After this fight, I want to be a contender and I want to get fight from top-five guys.”

While neither man has perhaps established themselves into a mainstream name in the UFC as of yet, the chance to do so on the main-event stage tonight will no doubt aid their desires to secure high-ranked opposition moving forward.

Who do you think will have their hand raised in the UFC Vegas 57 headliner, Mateusz Gamrot or Arman Tsarukyan?

Nate Maness: Nurmagomedov Name Has Skewed Odds Disrespectfully

UFC bantamweight Nate Maness believes that more than just the perception of his matchup against Umar Nurmagomedov has gone into forming the lopsided odds for their fight. UFC bantamweight Nate Maness believes that more than just the perception of his matchup against Umar Nurmagomedov has gone into forming the lopsided odds for their fight.

While tonight’s card perhaps lacks the star power and name-value of the last two, UFC 275 and UFC Austin, the promotion’s return to Las Vegas’ Apex facility is still bringing some intriguing matchups along with it, one of which pits in-form 135-pound prospects Maness and Nurmagomedov together.

With a combined record of 28-1, the pair are certainly two of the more notable rising bantamweights, with one looking to take a step closer to the rankings at the other’s expense.

For Maness, his UFC Vegas 57 appearance will mark his fourth walk to the Octagon. “Mayhem,” a former TKO Bantamweight Champion, has gone 3-0 under the UFC banner. After debuting with a unanimous decision victory over Johnny Muñoz Jr., Maness extended his overall win streak to four with a pair of second-round finishes against Luke Sanders and Tony Gravely.

But despite his unblemished UFC record and two-fight stoppage streak, Maness will enter his fourth Octagon outing as a sizable underdog. On BetOnline.ag, the Tennessee native sits at +650, while Umar, the younger cousin of GOAT contender Khabib Nurmagomedov, holds favorite status at an eyebrow-raising -1200.

While he acknowledged his opponent’s talent during his appearance at UFC Vegas 57 media day, Maness did suggest that the majorly-lopsided odds, which he branded as “disrespectful,” are down to the fact he’s fighting a Nurmagomedov, rather than a gap in skill.

“He’s great. I don’t think anyone can watch him and say that he’s not great. (But), you know, the odds show a little bit disrespectful towards my side I think,” said Maness. “(It’s) just ’cause of that last name. I’m coming to fight… these are the fights I want.

“I think it’s good for my friends. Man, they’ve made all kinds of money since I’ve been in the UFC. So, it’s all good,” added Maness. “I mean, (Nurmagomedov) is great, he’s a great fighter. I don’t have too many bad things to say about Umar.”

While some would agree with Maness’ assessment of Nurmagomedov’s -1200 line, the Dagestani has certainly justified the hype surrounding him so far in the UFC.

In two appearances, the 26-year-old has extended his unblemished professional résumé to 14-0 courtesy of a pair of rear-naked choke submission victories over Sergey Morozov and Brian Kelleher.

While Maness is expecting to give the AKA product his toughest test to date tonight, Nurmagomedov will be targeting another dominant performance and an ascension closer to the top 15 as he looks to following in the footsteps of his older cousin.

Who do you think will have their hand raised at UFC Vegas 57, Nate Maness or Umar Nurmagomedov?

Rodolfo Vieira is thankful to be fighting at UFC Vegas 57 after fearing his career might be over earlier this year.

The Brazilian submission specialist is scheduled to make his first appearance of 2022 against Chris Curtis, but he was originally supposed to fight Wellington Turman back in January.

“The Black Belt Hunter” had to withdraw from that bout during fight week, and at the UFC Vegas 57 media day he discussed the circumstances around the cancellation.

“Actually, I had a problem on my brain,” Vieira said. “A malformation — I don’t know if that’s the exact word. But it’s something that I was born with. So, I didn’t know if it was serious or if it was something like normal.

“But, after doing the [scan] the doctor said that I was going to be able to keep fighting and that made me very happy. Because I was really afraid to have to retire…Actually, I was sure that I would have to stop. I was waiting for the worst. And thank God that didn’t happen and I’m here today. I’m gonna fight next Saturday.”

The 32-year-old made his name as one of the top grapplers in the world before starting his MMA career in 2017. A 5-0 record was enough for the UFC to come calling, and the Brazilian quickly improved to 7-0 with two-straight wins via arm triangle choke.

Vieira suffered his first MMA loss to Anthony Hernandez before getting back on track against Dustin Stoltzfus, and the Brazilian is excited to resume his career following his previous health scare.

“I’m feeling the same way that I was feeling after all those issues. The good part was that these issues made me realize how much I wanted to keep doing MMA. Even with all the fear and [anxiety].”

“The Black Belt Hunter” is set to kick off the main card of UFC Vegas 57 against Chris Curtis, who will be looking for a third-straight win to start his UFC career.

What’s your reaction to Vieira explaining the brain issue that nearly sent him into early retirement?

Curtis: “Internet Thinks I’m Stupid” Ahead Of Vieira Fight

Chris Curtis feels like the the advice he’s received online ahead of his next bout hasn’t been particularly helpful or insightful. Chris Curtis feels like the the advice he’s received online ahead of his next bout hasn’t been particularly helpful or insightful.

The 34-year-old is set to face Rodolfo Vieira at UFC Vegas 57 in his third fight for the UFC. While he’s already faced a pair of talented grapplers in Phil Hawes and Brendan Allen, “The Black Belt Hunter” promises to be more dangerous than either of them if things end up on the ground.

Curtis is well aware of the matchup’s style dynamic, and the middleweight was candid when asked at the event’s media day if he had any intention of grappling with the Brazilian.

“Fuck no. There’s no way,” Curtis answered. “People are like ‘Oh, you think you can grapple him?’ I’m like no, his nickname is ‘The Blackbelt Hunter.’ Like why would I even – why would that ever be part of the game plan? I love that the internet thinks I’m stupid too. I always get messages on Twitter like ‘Hey man, just don’t go to the ground with him.’ And I’m like ‘I never would have considered this to be my path to victory, thank you wise sir.’ Like no, come on.”

It was a long road for Curtis to finally make it to the UFC, and the veteran knows he can draw on his experience in order to prepare for a submission specialist like Vieira.

“I’ve got like 36 fights, 34 fights, something like that. I’ve been doing this a long time. I’m very self-aware of where I’m good at and where I’m bad at, where I can hold my own. At no point in time is prolonged grappling exchanges gonna be part of my plan here. It’s just not a thing, no.”

“The Action Man” appeared on Contender Series 2018 and failed to earn a UFC contract despite a third-round stoppage win. The 34-year-old went on to fight in the PFL and pick up a few more wins in regional promotions before finally joining the UFC in 2021.

Curtis was an underdog heading into his first two UFC bouts but defied expectations by finishing both of his opponents via strikes. While he may not be able to have as busy a year as he previously hoped, Curtis can still get out to a 3-0 start in the UFC with a win over Vieira.

What do you think of Curtis’s comments about people on the internet providing advice for fighting Vieira?
