Former interim UFC middleweight title challenger, Kelvin Gastelum has responded to former duel-weight champion, Conor McGregor after the Dubliner claimed he was suffering from another staph infection, accusing the former gold holder of both steroid and cocaine use.
Gastelum, who was scheduled to headline UFC Vegas 67 this weekend against fellow middleweight, Nassourdine Imavov, was forced from the bout after he suffered a mouth injury during a sparring session ahead of the matchup.
As a result, The Ultimate Fighter alum was removed from his clash with Imavov, with fellow middleweight challenger, Sean Strickland replacing the former in a short notice light heavyweight fight with Imavov instead.
Responding to Gastelum’s removal from the UFC Apex facility card, 34-year-old ex-UFC champion, McGregor claimed Gastelum was suffering from another staph infection, qeustioning his cleanliness.
“Absolute scruff this thing is,” Conor McGregor said of Kelvin Gastelum on his official Instagram account. “That’s full of staph infection all over his f*cking face. A full f*cking hole omg and it’s his second time to attempt to enter competition like this. Wtf! Clean your mat, wash yourself, f*cking go to the doctor. Scruff.”
Kelvin Gastelum issues scathing response to Conor McGregor
Hitting back at McGregor – who has been sidelined since his July 2021 doctor’s stoppage TKO loss to Dustin Poirier, Gastelum implied the former two-weight champion was utilizing steroids during his time away from the Octagon, and accused him of cocaine use.
“Relax u lil’ leprachaun,” Kelvin Gastelum tweeted in response to Conor McGregor. “The coke and steroids are kicking in.”
Without a victory in his last two Octagon walks, San Jose native, Gastelum suffered consecutive losses to both Jared Cannonier, and Robert Whittaker – most recently defeating Ian Heinisch in a 2021 decision win.
Gastelum previously challenged for interim middleweight gold back in 2019 against former undisputed titleholder, Israel Adesanya, suffering a unanimous decision loss in the consensus Fight of the Year.

Ahead of his upcoming UFC Vegas 67 headliner this weekend at the light heavyweight limit, middleweight contender, Sean Strickland appears unmoved by his matchup with Russian-born contender, Nassourdine Imavov, poking fun at the people of France – where the latter currently trains.
Strickland, the current #7 ranked middleweight contender, replaces former interim title chaser, Kelvin Gastelum this weekend in the UFC’s return to schedule, clashing with MMA Factory mainstay and Fernand Lopez trainee, Imavov.
Headlining the final event of last year, Strickland took main event honors at UFC Vegas 66 against one-time title challenger, Jared Cannonier, suffering a close, split decision loss. The defeat marked Strickland’s second consecutively following a KO loss to middleweight champion, Alex Pereira back in July of last year.
Previewing his matchup against the surging, Imavov this weekend, Strickland poked fun at the people of France, maintaining he was unconcerned with his clash with the Dagestan-born challenger.
“If we’ve learned anything about the French – what’re the French best at? Giving up,” Sean Strickland told assembled media during his media availability ahead of UFC Vegas 67. “I haven’t really watched him (Nassourdine Imavov) fight – I know he likes to bang, he throws big punches, but he’s still f*cking French, man.”
“That’s a hard thing to move past,” Sean Strickland continued. “There’s a lot of history of cowardice to move on from when you’re f*cking French. Maybe he’s gonna prove a statement, maybe he’s gonna say that his country’s finally left the cowardice behind, but I don’t f*cking know.” (Transcribed by MMA Mania)
Sean Strickland enjoyed a 7-fight undefeated run prior to last summer
Riding a seven-fight winning run before his knockout loss to current titleholder, Pereira, Strickland managed to chalk up wins over the likes of Brendan Allen, Uriah Hall, and Jack Hermansson during his impressive streak which saw him climb as high as #5 in the middleweight pile.

Basharat spoke with Lowkick MMA’s Alex Behunin about his 2023 goals, UFC Vegas 67 opponent Mateus Mendonça and his brother Farid Basharat signing with the UFC.
The Xtreme Couture prospect made his UFC debut in 2022 and secured two wins over Trevin Jones and Tony Gravely. Now, Basharat is looking to make a bigger splash in the bantamweight division in the new year.
“I still want to remain undefeated but more than that I want to make sure that I break into the top-10 at least, top-15 for sure. I’d be fuming if I’m not in the top-15, especially if I’ve been winning,” Basharat said. “And at least get three fights in this year. I’d say that’s my No.1 goal.”
Javid Basharat Will Start His Year Against Another Undefeated Fighter
His first challenge in 2023 will be against fellow undefeated fighter Mateus Mendonça on Jan. 14 at UFC Vegas 67. Mendonça will be making his UFC debut on the card. Basharat
“I’m not going to overlook this guy. He comes from a great fight camp. Chute box from Charles Oliviera’s team. He’s undefeated. There’s no blueprint to winning,” Basharat said. “Make no mistake about. His name isn’t that big but he’s undefeated. He got a big win off the Contender Series and why not. I want to be that guy. Let’s test him.”
Basharat’s brother Farid secured a UFC contract with a win in September on Dana White’s Contender Series. Basharat reacted to his brother’s recent UFC signing by assuring that the promotion is where the two brothers “belong”.
“It’s great. It’s where we belong. We are one of the best fighters on the planet and the UFC is the best promotion on the planet so it’s where we belong.”
