Derrick Lewis has once more upset the odds — stopping the incredible run of the #2 ranked Curtis Blaydes via a massive second round uppercut knockout.

Opening with a low kick to the lead of Lewis, Blaydes almost paid the price closing range early — with the New Orleans native firing back in the pocket. Pressuring Lewis back to the fence, a cautious, measured Blaydes was dominating the Octagon in the early goings.

Finding his mark with a right hand, Blaydes punished a wild, swinging Lewis. Landing an inadvertent eye-poke, Lewis and Blaydes seen a brief stoppage in the action before the end of the round.

Successfully defending an early round shot from Blaydes, Lewis was warned by referee, Herb Dean to keep his hands closed to avoid eye-pokes. Launching a massive upper-cut on Blaydes’ next entry for a takedown, Lewis sent the Elevation Fight Team mainstay to the canvas out cold — landing two subsequent punches before Dean could separate the two. An incredible twelve Octagon knockout win for Derrick Lewis.

Below, check out the highlights from Derrick Lewis’ massive knockout victory over Curtis Blaydes.

Usually capable of stopping his opponent with his hands, in relatively timely fashion to boo, Team Kaobon mainstay, Tom Aspinall grabs a career-highlight victory over former UFC heavyweight champion, Andrei Arlovski — submitting the veteran with a second round rear-naked choke.

Improving to 10-2 professionally and 3-0 in the UFC, scoring finishes in each of them — the Wigan native landed some notable damage in the opening round on the feet, splitting the Belarusian’s nose in the early goings. Appearing quite strong in the clinch, Aspinall utlisied the fence to control Arlovski for the majority of the opening frame.

Shooting with a somewhat surprising double-leg early in the second, Aspinall pushed Arlovski back to the fence again, before taking his back with ease, slipping in a swift rear-naked choke and forcing the tap.

Whilst admitting event headliners, Curtis Blaydes and Derrick Lewis are above him, Aspinall noted his interest in facing the winner of tonight’s scrap between Chris Daukaus and Aleksei Oleinik.

Below, catch the highlights from Aspinall’s third Octagon victory since his debut last summer.

LowKick MMA will be bringing you UFC Vegas 19: Blaydes vs. Lewis results throughout the afternoon (Sun. 20th. February 2021) from the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Rescheduled for tonight’s main event, heavyweight contenders, Curtis Blaydes and Derrick Lewis finally square off following the cancellation of their first attempted pairing back in November at UFC Vegas 15 amid a positive COVID-19 test result from the former.

Hoping to continue on his quest to his premier promotional title challenge, Lewis, like Blaydes headlines his second event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas — following his June unanimous decision victory over the recent feature, Alexander Volkov.

For New Orleans favourite, Lewis, a victory over the #2 ranked Blaydes would surely guarantee him his second title challenge under the UFC’s banner. Featuring in August of last year in a main event slot against common-foe, Aleksei Olienik, Lewis became the most prolific knockout artist in the history of the UFC’s heavyweight division, notching his eleventh stoppage via strikes.

In a co-main event matchup, Brazilian striker, Ketlen Vieira is rebooked to match with former Invicta FC bantamweight champion and one-time UFC featherweight title challenger, Yana Kunitskaya. Tipping the bantamweight scales at yesterday’s weigh-ins, Vieira was fined twenty percent of her fight purse, with the matchup proceeding at a 138-pound catchweight limit.

Manaus native, Vieira returned to the Octagon following her first promotional loss back in December of 2019 — taking a unanimous decision victory over Sijara Eubanks at UFC 252 last September.

Also returning to the win-column following a knockout loss of her own, Kunitskaya managed a unanimous judging win of her own against Julija Stoliarenko at UFC Vegas 6 in August.

With the withdrawal of streaking prospect, Khamzat Chimaev due to lingering health issues amid a positive COVID-19 test result, the #3 ranked Leon Edwards is set to remain on the UFC Vegas 21 card — drawing recent UFC 258 victor, Belal Muhammad in a reworked main event on March 13.

Forced from two outings against Edwards this year already, Chimaev, who is expected to travel to Las Vegas to receive treatment and medicine for his lingering lung issues — was slated to match with the Birmingham native at UFC Fight Island 7 in January, but failed to gain medical clearance to compete or prepare for the fight.

Yet to feature since UFC Fight Night San Antonio in July of 2019 — Edwards notched his eighth consecutive triumph via a unanimous decision win over former lightweight champion, Rafael dos Anjos. Scheduled to headline a UFC Fight Night London card last March, the entire event was shelved amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, scrapping his tie with former champion, Tyron Woodley.

The victor of four on the trot, 32-year-old contender, Muhammad earned the #13 rank at 170-pounds via a one-sided unanimous judging win over Dhiego Lima last Saturday night at UFC 258 at the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, Nevada. News of the matchup was first penned by ESPN MMA reporter, Brett Okamoto

On the cusp of a title shot at welterweight, Team Renegade BJJ & MMA staple, Edwards is undefeated in the UFC since December of 2015 — where he dropped a UFC Fight Night Orlando unanimous decision to current champion, Kamaru Usman.

Scoring eight victories since, the 29-year-old scored wins over Dominic Waters, Albert Tumenov, Vicente Luque, Bryan Barberena, Peter Sobotta, Donald Cerrone, and Gunnar Nelson, prior to his judging win over the above mentioned former 155-pound kingpin, dos Anjos.

Enjoying a certain purple-patch of form, Muhammad scores his first headlining bout under the UFC’s banner — hoping to notch his fifth straight success and knock back the streaking, Edwards.

A five-year, twelve-fight Octagon veteran, the Illinois native has amassed a 9-3 promotional résumé — dropping losses to common-foe, Luque, kickboxing talent, Geoff Neal, and Alan Jouban. As part of his current streak, Muhammad has bested Curtis Millender, Takashi Sato, Lyman Good, and the aforenoted, Lima.

Edwards was initially linked with a title-eliminator against former interim titleholder, Colby Covington, however, the brash Californian put and end to those talks — claiming he wouldn’t do charity by accepting a short-notice bout against the #3 ranked contender.

UFC Vegas Does Relatively Well Despite Competition

UFC Vegas averaged just over a million viewers.

The event took place this past Saturday night at the Apex facility and was headlined by a welterweight showdown between former champion Tyron Woodley and rising contender Gilbert Burns which saw victory for the latter.

And according to the Nielsen Ratings System (via MMA Fighting), the event averaged 1.021 million viewers over the course of the three-hour broadcast on ESPN. That put it in the top 20 for overall cable ratings for the day with the card also averaging a .42 rating in the 18-49 demographic.

Given that it faced competition from the SpaceX launch — which averaged 4.633 million viewers — as well as coverage from the ongoing George Floyd protests taking place nationwide, that is a decent number. It should also be noted that the event was simulcast on ESPN+ whose ratings are not separately released.

Overall, UFC Vegas landed in fifth spot out of the nine dedicated ESPN cards in terms of average viewership. The highest remains the first show which took place in February last year that saw the return of Cain Velasquez against Francis Ngannou. That card averaged 1.463 million viewers.
