A recent interview with Forrest Griffin, who is out on the road promoting his new book, was a guest on the “Jason Ellis Show on Sirius XM – Faction” on Aug. 10 was asked about a rumor that he’d be facing fast rising UFC light-heavyweight Jon “Bones” Jones.

Griffin gave a less than enthusiastic reply to the question. Here’s part of the transcript for the interview from BloodyElbow.com.

“I hope I am not fighting Jon ‘Bones’ Jones. I might be. F*ck it; if I am, I am. I will do it, but I am not even training right now. That is a bad dude. That dude will whoop my ass. F*ck it. What is the worst, I mean, it could not be worse than Anderson Silva. It should not be worse than that, right? Every fight I go into, no matter what happens, it could not be worse than Anderson Silva.”

“Because that sh*t was a year ago and literally every day people ask me something about that – What happened? What happened?”

“[Anderson punched me in the chin] Repeatedly and I was very confused. I tried to punch him and he literally moved his head out of the way and looked at me like I was stupid for doing it. He looked at me like – “Why would you do such a stupid thing?” He looked at me like – “Oh, did you really think you were going to hit me? What a stupid thing to think, you slow slow white boy.”

Randy Couture Talks Strategy for James Toney

Randy-Couture-003

Several staffers here at MMA Fix have been growing out their fingernails for some time now in anticipation of next Saturday’s tilt between Randy Couture and James Toney (chewing your nails is a safer option than popping pills all night no?) Yes, we fully expect “The Natural” to own Toney, but that doesn’t change the fact it’s going to be reeedonkously stressful.  If Toney does in fact pull off the win, the MMA world better be prepared to receive an earful and then some from the boxing champ and his crew (which in this case will probably be the entire boxing community).

Thankfully since the fight was announced, Couture hasn’t gone around saying something stupid like ‘I’m ready to test my hands with any boxer’; he understands that Toney is a beast with his fists and that’s it. In a recent interview posted on the official UFC site, Captain America talked a little bit more about what kind of strategy he might employ against Toney, and everything he had to say sounded damn sweet to us (thanks to MMA Bay for the quote).

“There are some serious holes in his game and it’s my job to point those out. If James comes with that traditional boxing posture, he can expect to get the hell kicked out of his lead leg. He can expect a right to come at his head followed by a swift double-leg, a swift clinch, then we’ll tie him up, dirty box, punch, elbow, knee, shoulder, anything I need to do to put him on the floor. There’s a whole load of other things that go on inside the cage. He better hope he can catch me.”

Now that’s what’s up Randy; that’s what’s up. To bet on the bout head here.

Noons Says Media Took UFC Comments Out of Context, Promises His Hair is About to Get ‘Pretty Crazy, Dude’

I’m going to tread lightly here, because I don’t want KJ Noons’ dad to physically attack me, but sometimes it just seems like it would be better, maybe, if Karl Jr. didn’t talk. At least not in public. Sure, Noons is a decent fighter, but watching him stumble through six minutes, 35 seconds worth of half-finished sentences, "you knows" and grammar that is probably best described as “Tito-esque” in the above video makes me wonder if a better public relations strategy for him wouldn’t be to just stand there and smile and occasionally flip his lustrous hair out of his eyes.

Noons in fact does spend the first minute of his interview with Ariel Helwani talking about his hair. He’s growing it out, see, just for the experience and just in case he goes bald later in life. You never can be too careful. “It’s pretty crazy, dude,” he says about his plans to see how long he can get it. It takes until the 5:38 mark in this vid for Noons to get to the heart of anything interesting, like the recent comments he made about the UFC being “boring as hell.” When the subject does come up, Noons falls back one of the more tried-and-true defenses for morons who say shit they later regret: It was the media’s fault.

Penn vs EdgarUFC 118 headliners, UFC lightweight champ Frankie Edgar and former champ BJ Penn participated in a media conference call on Thursday to help promote their upcoming fight on Aug. 28 in Boston.

Penn talked about the upcoming fight and the future for the 31 year old fighter. We’ve put together some of “The Prodigy’s” better quotes from the press conference from around the web here for you to check out.

-”I don’t know if I sit there and say ‘well, I’m happy that Frankie’s a worthy opponent.’ One thing he did was wake me up, and makes me realize it never stops. When you hear people say ‘you’re the greatest of all time and this and that’ it’s all bullshit. It’s not real. It’s fake.”

-”Being a champion is fake, all that, it’s all fake. You’ve got to go out there, you’ve got to keep training, training as hard as you can, and keep winning fights.”

-”Every time you get a loss, you take a different path and get back on your journey,” Penn said. “I believe if I had won that fight I would have changed nothing about my game.

“I definitely think this (is the prime of my career). I’m 31. I have tons of experience. I’m not looking past Frankie, but I think I’m about to go on a run.”

“The loss to Frankie made me step back and realize I want to fight as much as I can,” Penn said. “After the fight with Frankie, I want to fight the next month or the next week.

-”I don’t know if my biological clock is ticking or what, but I want to fight as much as possible. I want to make a push to be a true fighter, and I think I could be very active.”

“I thought I was God’s gift to fighting,” Penn said. “I thought I would go 100-0 with 100 knockouts. When I sit back and look at my record, I can’t believe I have six losses. It just blows me away.

“No one is untouchable — and if they are, they just haven’t run into the right guy yet.”
