KJ Noons starts the pre fight banter via Strikeforce as he talks about his upcoming match with Nick Diaz which is set for October 9 in San Jose, California. Both fighters have little if any love for each other, and you can certainly expect that this is only the first bit of badmouthing from either fighter, and you can definitely expect a quick response from Nick Diaz. We’ll let Noons do the talking:

To be in the Strikeforce main event on Showtime, to be in line to be a two-time, two-division world champion, and getting to beat Nick again in the process… I couldn’t ask for a better fight. I already got one up on Nick. I beat the crap out of the guy. He’s had a good run, and there’s a lot of build-up for this rematch. We’ve both improved, this is a different weight class now, he’s gotten better, I’ve gotten better, it’s a different situation. But at the end of the day, I’m a true mixed martial artist, I have respect for the sport, and I am a good role model… Nick’s good for entertainment, but I come from a family of fighters. I started early, and I have respect for martial arts. It teaches you discipline, how to become a good person, and I feel that I am. On October 9, I’m fighting a guy that, if I had a kid, I wouldn’t want him looking up to. He’s a trash-talking, pot-smoking chump. It’s motivation for sure [to be fighting near Diaz’s hometown]. I love being the underdog. Even when I’m not, I still try to picture myself as the underdog so I train harder and push myself. Nick says he’s bringing his guys, but so am I. They’re going to need to beef up security. This is beyond a grudge match. I’m going to light him up like a Christmas tree. He’s going to have to kill me to [to beat me]. It’s very personal.”

Marcus Davis Thinks He Has More Tools Than Nate Diaz.

Marcus Davis “The Irish Hand Gernade” is set to take on long limbed Gracie fighter Nate Diaz as part of the upcoming UFC 118: Edgar vs Penn II card, and the 36 year old fighter will look to continue to deliver fan friendly fights. While his overall record in the UFC is 8-3 his […]

Marcus Davis “The Irish Hand Gernade” is set to take on long limbed Gracie fighter Nate Diaz as part of the upcoming UFC 118: Edgar vs Penn II card, and the 36 year old fighter will look to continue to deliver fan friendly fights. While his overall record in the UFC is 8-3 his age, mixed with a 1-2 recent record(although he’s coming off a victory over Jonathan Goulet via TKO at UFC 113: Machida vs. Shogun 2) makes each fight that much more important to his career. He broke down his view of fighting wrestlers, and his thoughts on his upcoming fight with Nick Diaz when he spoke to Heavy.com:

“That’s what I hunt for, fights that make sense. It doesn’t make sense for me to fight wrestlers that are going to try to take me down and lay on top of me and try to grind out a decision just by being safe. It makes more sense for me to be fighting the guys that are going to fight a little bit on the ground, but are also going to fight standing up. Don’t get me wrong, it’s MMA and I do enjoy the whole aspect of it, but I don’t like the laying and praying stuff. Yeah, we are supposed to win fights, but our job is to entertain. That’s what we are. We’re entertainers. I think that we can entertain a lot of people that night.”

“He’s similar to me as far as what he uses in his arsenal. I think that what Diaz does for his boxing, being long, throwing out his lead left hand a lot, he has some good things that he does. But I have more tools. I have better footwork. He moves forwards and backwards. I move side to side. I’m good at closing the gap quickly and getting my shots off and getting back out. I think that I’m the more powerful puncher. I don’t think there is any question about that. I hit guys with one shot and they go out. As far as boxing skill goes, I think I have the advantage there.”

Davis may not be championship material, but his “Fight of the Night” or “KO of the Night” mentality has made him a fan favorite, and you can bet that droves of those same fans will be rooting for him at UFC 118. UFC 118: Edgar Vs. Penn II takes place on August 28, 2010 at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, and the event will also host the 3rd UFC Fan Expo.

Gabe Ruediger Believes Joe Lauzon is “Overrated”

One of the interesting storylines heading into UFC 118 is the Octagon return of Gabe Ruediger; if that name doesn’t immediately jump out at you, think “Ultimate Fighter,” ice cream, cake, colonics and…yup, he’s the dude on TUF 5 that got booted for failing to make weight. Ruediger agreed to step in (on short notice) for the injured Terry Etim, who was supposed to fight Joe Lauzon.

Now, of course, Ruediger wouldn’t be making his UFC return if he had been losing on the minor circuit, and heading into Saturday’s bout he’s won 6 straight. The fight, which will be broadcast on Spike, gives Ruediger a fantastic opportunity to at least, slightly muzzle, the thousands of critics that have been on him ever since TUF 5. What makes the bout even more interesting is that Lauzon was one of Ruediger’s cast mates during the show, and as the veteran recently discussed on BJ.Penn.com, it sounds like there’s a little bit of ‘dislike’ going on there. In terms of Lauzon as an opponent? Here is some of what Ruediger said in the interview:

“Joe’s overrated; you know, he’s had some success in the UFC, but who’s he fought? When everything is said and done; Jason Reinhardt? I don’t care. I mean look at his record. Kyle Bradley’s tough but is he that tough? When he fought tough dudes he lost. When he fought Sammy Stout he lost. I’m not impressed with him and I know I’m going to smash him.”

Not sure Jeremy Stephens would agree with the above analysis, but hey, that’s just like…our opinion. To bet on Saturday’s festivities head here.

MMA Fix introduces a new interview format on our site featuring 10 questions with fighters who answer in their own written words. Our first installment is with UFC Heavyweight Roy Nelson.

1. Junior Dos Santos took the win in your UFC 117 bout, but you gained several new fans and Dana White’s newfound respect. How much do fans’ respect and/or Dana’s respect ease the blow of that loss?
RN: Any time you pick up any new fans in our business it [is] a good thing this is why as a fighter we put on the show.

2. You took some hard blows and you seem to have a solid chin. How much are you physically hurting a few weeks later?
RN: From the fight being punched I feel good, except I just had knee surgery so that hurts.

3. Is Dos Santos the toughest opponent you have faced in your career?
RN: Dos Santos is the guy who I will have to beat to get the belt, he should be wearing it soon if Brock or Cain stand with him.

4. Having reviewed the fight, did you see an opportunity where you could have won either by knockout, submission, or even swayed the decision?
RN: After watching the fight I feel good for the next time we fight.

5. Your performance in UFC 117 was impressive to many spectators and to the president of the UFC, himself. Where do you think you stand now? Are you looking to fight the winner of Mir/Noguiera? Who do you think you are likely to face next? (*Note: Question asked before Noguira pulled out of UFC 119 due to knee surgery)
RN: I think I am now number two in the UFC rankings so who ever they give me, maybe Noguiera since he [is] having surgery too.

6. Joe Rogan commented in your fight that he thought your “fat” may have served as an extra layer of protection. Do you agree with this assessment?
RN: I don’t know I don’t know what he said, but I really don’t care unless he is my training partner or coach.

7. Do you think that now is a time to consider shaving off the extra “layer of protection”?
RN: No Comment

8. You live in Las Vegas, home to some of the most renowned MMA gyms, including Xtreme Couture and TapOut, yet we’ve seen you training primarily at Gold’s Gym and in your home gym, referred to as the “Country Club”. Should we expect to see you training at a top known MMA facility or will you continue doing your own thing?
RN: No Comment

9. What great food have you indulged in since your fight?
RN: No Comment

10. What question are you most tired of being asked and what question do wish someone would ask you, and while you’re asking yourself that, go ahead and answer it, as well.
RN: EVERY ONE KNOWS THE ANSWER WHO IS [A] FAN SO NO COMMENT
