Cub Swanson could find himself fighting at bantamweight next.

Swanson returned to the win column with an impressive first-round TKO win over Darren Elkins in the UFC Vegas 45 main card opener last night.

Swanson swarmed Elkins dropping him a couple of times before referee Herb Dean saw enough and called an end to the contest.

It was an emotional victory for Swanson who is now at the tail-end of his fighting career. Before he calls it a day, he wants to achieve a few things and one of them is fighting at bantamweight.

“I had talked about maybe dropping to 135, just to switch it up, try something new,” Swanson said at the post-fight press conference (via MMA Junkie). “I know I can make it. I don’t know how difficult it would be. This was one of the easier cuts I’ve had.

“I just feel like I’m naturally a little lighter than I used to be. I guess I’m just not holding on muscle like I was before. That’s a possibility.”

Cub Swanson Wants To Fight On Home Turf

Another thing on Swanson’s bucket list is fighting in front of his home fans.

“The one thing that I would love to do still is they’re building a big arena, a 10,000-person arena, in Palm Springs,” Swanson said. “That’ll be done by the end of the year. If I can get the UFC to have a Fight Night in Palm Springs, I’d stick around for that for sure.”

Should things work out and he ends up competing at bantamweight in Palm Springs, who is Swanson’s ideal opponent?

“Probably Urijah Faber,” Swanson added. “See who the real ‘King of Cali’ is.”

Henry Cejudo, Urijah Faber

Bantamweight veteran Urijah Faber has suggested former two-division UFC champion Henry Cejudo should have never retired from MMA.

Cejudo, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest martial artists to have ever entered the Octagon, hung up his gloves in 2020 as a simultaneous double champ. After dethroning the great Demetrious Johnson at the second time of trying in 2018, the 2008 Olympic gold medalist further established his legacy by defending the 125-pound strap against former two-time bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw in 2019.

Forming “Triple C” five months later, Cejudo ascended the 135-pound mountaintop by finishing Marlon Moraes to win the vacant bantamweight belt. Defending gold in a second weight class, the Californian added the name of legendary former titleholder Dominick Cruz to his résumé at UFC 249 last May. The 34-year-old announced his retirement during his post-fight interview in Jacksonville.

Faber Calls For Cejudo To “Get Back In There”

Talk of a return has existed pretty much since Cejudo’s retirement was made official. However, the likelihood of seeing “The Messenger” inside the Octagon has certainly increased in recent months. After Alexander Volkanovski’s successful featherweight title defense against Brian Ortega at UFC 266 in September, Cejudo announced his intention to challenge “The Great” in the hope of becoming the UFC’s first three-division champion.

During an interview with The Schmo, former WEC Featherweight Champion and four-time UFC bantamweight title challenger Urijah Faber gave his take on Cejudo’s calls for a fight against Volkanovski.

“That guy’s earned his stripes. I mean, look, the things that he’s accomplished in combat sports are pretty incredible. He’d be going against Volkanovski, who’s a little big bigger, not quite up to par in wrestling, but a wrestler in his own right Both are great strikers. I don’t think he needs to skip the line. Max, I thought Max won of those exchanges with Volkanovski, so it’s hard to say that he’s not deserving.”

Faber went on to question Cejudo’s decision to call time on his career. According to “The California Kid,” becoming a champion and achieving success isn’t enough for Cejudo to create a legacy and keep himself relevant. Faber believes “Triple C” can only do that with a return to the Octagon.

“I think Henry is underestimating the fact that when you aren’t competing, people aren’t thinking about you as much. You can try to say this and say that. I don’t think he ever should have retired. He’s at his top-earning potential. I think he should have kept building that reputation; getting his name out there. I had 46 fights from when I was 24 years old on. That’s why people no my name. It’s not just because I was a champion and a contender, it’s because I was out there over and over again. Guys like Cowboy Cerrone are like that. Guys like Mike Chandler are like that.

“I’d like to see Henry get back in regardless, and start fighting. That’s how you make money, that’s how you make your name, and that’s how you really get remembered. Sure, he’s one of the greatest in combat sports because of what he’s done, but who’s gonna care?”

Do you agree with Urijah Faber? Did Henry Cejudo retire too soon?

Urijah Faber Claims Colby Covington’s A Good Guy, Just Playing The Heel

Colby Covington

Urijah Faber believes that Colby Covington is a good guy just trying to get noticed by the fans.

Many have speculated that Covington is just playing the heel to work up the fans of his opponents. Covington knows how to strike a nerve with fight fans and plays on their hatred. He even comes out to Kurt Angle’s “You Suck” theme song.

Covington even showed at the end of his rematch against Kamaru Usman that he does in fact respect his opponents. He talked a lot of trash in Usman, but after their five round battle, claimed it was all love and just him trying to sell the fight

Faber was being interviewed by Helen Yee when he made the claims that Covington is playing an act on the fans.

“What a great fight man, I mean I know both those guys well and it was funny to see the very end. Colby’s actually not a bad guy, he’s trying to get himself noticed. He’s not a guy that’s super outside the box as an individual so his whole schtick, he put it aside for a second and just showed respect. I like to see that. And it was a war man. Those guys are two of the best fighters on the planet. High-level wrestlers. You know, great genetics, great standup. So, you know, Usman’s a champ for a reason.” (Sportskeeda)

Colby Covington has also been talking about the possibility of fighting Jorge Masvidal

When ‘Gamebred’ dropped out of his upcoming fight with Leon Edwards, Covington turned his sights to his former roommate.

Covington has put up some great matches against the pound for pound best fighter in the world, Kamaru Usman. Covington is still one of the most elite and well rounded fighters in the UFC no matter how you feel about him.

Covington will have to take the Max Holloway route and still prove he is the next best man in the division to get another title shot. A couple wins over top five guys could get him right back in the title picture, especially if Usman may be retired by then (which he has hinted at).

Do you agree with how Urijah Faber feel’s about Colby Covington? Should he leave the character behind?

Urijah Faber Wants To Fight, Names Marlon Vera As Potential Opponent

UFC Bantamweight legend Urijah Faber has been away from the octagon since December 2019’s loss to Petr Yan. UFC Bantamweight legend Urijah Faber has been away from the octagon since December 2019’s loss to Petr Yan.

Now, the 42-year-old Faber is once again open to a potential comeback inside the cage.

“I was definitely not planning on the whole shutdown of the entire world and, at that time, having a baby on the way and a newborn,” Faber told The Schmo. “I fight because I love it, it’s a good time, the entire experience. Not having a crowd, I was definitely not going to fight. Now that the crowd’s back, I wouldn’t put it past.”

While Faber remains on the sidelines, coaching several current fighters in the UFC, that hasn’t stopped his fellow bantamweight contenders from calling out the well known name in Faber. While Faber has certainly had some intriguing names call him out in the past year, the name that comes to mind for his return to the cage is none other than Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera.

“I’ve heard maybe seven or eight guys that have called me out, maybe asked for the fight, some respectfully, some disrespectfully,” Faber said. “Chito Vera, he’s one of the guys. That would be an interesting matchup. It’s funny, the whole thing that happened with him and Song Yadong. He was all bent out of shape about that fight. Backstage his whole team was ranting and raving and I said, ‘Guy, you can always do it again,’ and he goes, ‘Why don’t you fight me?’ So I said right in front of Song, ‘You don’t want to fight Song again?’ ‘Oh I do, buh-buh-buh.’ But he hasn’t said a word about Song. That would be a good one though, old Chito Vera.”

Vera lost to Faber’s Team Alpha Male teammate Song Yadong in May 2020 and has been adamant about a Faber fight ever since.

“I would probably, if I was going to compete, need to get back into Rocky mode and it would take me a couple months, but I’m not opposed to getting in a good old fist-fight,” Faber said. “Fun, you get paid, part of your passion, so don’t count the idea out. I’ll have a sit down with Sean Shelby and maybe Dana White and see if they think it’s a good idea to get back in there but I’m always game.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)

Faber has competed for world titles in the UFC on four different occasions and was inducted into the UFC Hall of Famer in 2017 with a career record of 35-11.

Do you think we’ll see Urijah Faber make another comeback? How would a Faber-Vera fight play out?
