Light heavyweight titans Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones were scheduled to finally settle the score on their long-time rivalry in just a few days, as “DC” was set to put his 205-pound strap on the line against the ex-champion in Jones in the main event of this weekend’s (Sat., July 9, 2016) UFC 200 from Las Vegas, Nevada.

The two first did battle in January 2015 with Jones defending his then held title via unanimous decision. Later that year, however, he found himself in legal trouble and the UFC was forced to strip him of his title, giving Cormier the opportunity to seize the vacant throne at UFC 187.

Nearly a year and a half later, we had planned on seeing the two greats meet again, but after all of the waiting, the highly-anticipated fight has fell apart right in front of our eyes just days before it was set to take place.

Unfortunate news broke earlier this evening (July 7, 2016) indicating that “Bones” had been informed by USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) of a potential anti-doping violation. As a result, UFC President Dana White had announced that Jones was being pulled from the card.

In the midst of the madness, all of the attention is surrounding Jones, but Cormier has also been hit with terrible news. The former Olympian has made it clear that he wants nothing more than to topple his bitter rival, and not only will he not get the chance to do that, but he’ll also likely miss out on a huge payday unless the promotion can somehow find him another fight.

Clearly affected by the situation, Cormier didn’t exactly know how to react:

“I’m very disappointed. I worked really hard for this,” Cormier said on Wednesday night, according to MMAFighting.com. “I don’t know exactly how to explain how I’m feeling right now.”

“DC” also expressed his interest in staying on the card, claiming that he’s open to fighting anyone that would accept:

“I’ve trained hard and long, Cormier said. “If anyone would fight, I would fight. Why not?”

The champion has long been one to take shots at Jones for his mistakes, but at this time, “DC” said that he wasn’t here to judge:

“I’m not the moral police.”

UFC Issues Statement on Jon Jones’ Failed Drug Test

Just moments ago, breaking news was announced indicating that former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones was pulled from his upcoming UFC 200 bout just days before the event, which is slated for July 9, 2016, after being notified by USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) of a potential anti-doping violation.

UFC President Dana White held a press conference in Las Vegas to announce the shocking news, but many of the details had yet to be unraveled. The UFC has since released its official statement, however, which includes more information on the matter:

“The UFC organization was notified tonight that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Jon Jones of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collection on June 16, 2016.

USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case. It is important to note that, under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full fair legal review process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed.

However, because Jones was scheduled to compete against Daniel Cormier this coming Saturday, July 9 in Las Vegas, there is insufficient time for a full review before the scheduled bout and therefore the fight has been removed from the fight card. As a result, the three-round heavyweight bout between Brock Lesnar and Mark Hunt will become the UFC 200 main event.

Consistent with all previous potential anti-doping violations, additional information or UFC statements will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.”

What substance Jones tested positive for and what type of punishment may loom over him has yet to be revealed, but be sure to stay tuned to LowKickMMA as more news on this situation unfolds.

Brock Lesnar is a freak of nature plain and simple. The former UFC heavyweight champion and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) professional wrestler has a monstrous physique, and it’s understandable why many have questioned whether or not that physique came naturally given that there simply aren’t many people built like “The Beast”.

With that being said, questions and criticisms regarding drug testing stirred up quite quickly when Lesnar announced that he would be making his return to fighting at July 9’s UFC 200 from Las Vegas, Nevada. Under the new USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) guidelines, a fighter coming out of retirement must be submitted into the testing pool four months prior to when he or she plans on competing. Announcing his return just weeks before the July 9th show, this wasn’t an option for Lesnar so the UFC handed him an exception.

Perhaps it’s clear why the masses would be worried about the situation, but Lesnar has indeed been tested an insane amount of times in his short stint in the USADA pool. “The Beast” has also never failed a drug test. In fact, he’s been dealing with these questions his whole life.

On a recent UFC 200 media call that took place yesterday (June 31, 2016), Lesnar fired back at the steroid accusations with a humorous and simple response:

“I’ve been dealing with that my entire life,” Lesnar said during yesterday’s UFC 200 media conference call (via MMA Junkie). “What do you want me to say? I’m a white boy and I’m jacked, deal with it.”

Well, there you have it. As Lesnar said, perhaps he really just is ‘jacked’, and until a failed drug test says otherwise, we may need to lay off of the former heavyweight champion, and simply enjoy his return.

There have been few bigger stars than Lesnar in the history of the sport, and in just over a week we will see him clash with slugger Mark Hunt in the co-main event of arguably the biggest card of all-time.

That’s something special.

Mendes’ USADA Violation Reportedly Due To Growth Hormone

Chad Mendes’ downward spiral continues to worsen, as the two-time 145-pound title challenger is now engulfed in a scandal involving ‘Money’s’ failed out-of-competition United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) drug test.

Now a report has surfaced that Mendes has been flagged for the use of GHRP-6 (Growth Hormone Releasing Peptide 6).

Larry Pepe broke the news via Twitter:

Pepe’s full statement can be read right here (transcribed by MMA Mania):

Source tells me that Chad Mendes popped for GHRP-6 (Growth Hormone Releasing Peptide 6) and that he took it in cream form, not by injection.

GHRP-6 is more of an anti-aging agent when taken alone. Of very little if any value to an athlete unless combined with other substances.

However, I’m told that he only failed for that one substance and that nothing else was found. Taken alone it’s of little value to athletes seeking any performance or strength enhancement so it is a little puzzling as to why he would take just that unless he got bad advice or it was inadvertent, for example.

Mendes (17-4) is on a disappointing two-fight losing skid since being starched by interim featherweight title challenger Frankie Edgar, in the first round of their main event bout at The Ultimate Fighter Season 22 Finale (TUF 22 Finale).

Prior to his bout with Edgar, Mendes met current UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 189 back in July of last year, that saw the brash Irishman knockout Mendes in the second round with just seconds to spare.

No time-frame on a potential suspension has yet been announced by USADA, but we’ll keep you posted as more becomes known.

Former two time title-challenger Chad ‘Money’ Mendes was flagged for a potential United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) violation last week, and had remained radio silent on the situation since the news broke.

Mendes, however, took to Twitter today (June 18, 2016) to claim responsibility for the USADA violation, calling it a ‘big mistake’ and stating he is ready to accept the consequences:

The UFC released the following statement last week acknowledging news of Mendes’ potential violation:

“The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Chad Mendes of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collection.

Mendes (17-4) hasn’t seen Octagon action since his disappointing knockout loss to No. 2-ranked featherweight Frankie Edgar, in their main event clash at The Ultimate Fighter Season 22 finale (TUF 22 Finale).

The loss to Edgar marked Mendes’ second consecutive knockout loss since losing to current featherweight champion Conor McGregor at UFC 189 last July.

The mixed martial arts (MMA) community hasn’t taken lightly to the UFC making an exception for Brock Lesnar in terms of his USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) drug testing requirements.

Lesnar will be coming out of retirement to make his return at July 9’s UFC 200 against Mark Hunt. Typically when a fighter comes out of retirement, he would have to let USADA know four months in advance so that he could be entered into the drug testing pool.

With the event being less than a month away, however, Lesnar was dismissed from this requirement. Given his insane physique, many have been rubbed the wrong way by the situation.

Retired UFC fighter Brendan Schaub recently spoke on the ‘fishy’ situation on an edition of his podcast:

“He (Lesnar) could have gotten off of them, and tailored off. Now he can fight and be clean. So I’m retired and let’s say they want me to fight; I have to give the drug testing sanction, body a four-month heads up like, ‘Hey, I am thinking about fighting.’ They will be like ‘Okay, you have four months where we are going to test you and you got to be clean.’ He skipped all of that and now he only has four weeks where they can test him. Does no one think this is fishy? Hey man, you can’t do that.”

Not only does Schaub think the situation is a bit strange, but he also feels as if Hunt should show up to UFC 200 ‘juiced to the gills’:

“Mark Hunt should be able to take whatever he wants. Mark Hunt should come juiced to the gills and look like f**king Chong Li from Blood sport with traps from here to here. F**k you!”

In closing, Schaub once again claimed that Lesnar’s situation just seems a bit off:

“So maybe six months ago he told Dana, ‘Hey man I want to fight.’ And Dana was like, ‘Cool, well listen you know there is that four-month window.’ And he’ll say, ‘Okay, let’s see how we can work around this,’ If this doesn’t signal to every human being in the world that he’s probably on stuff.”

Are you worried that Lesnar has effectively worked the system?
