Mark Hunt has the unfortunate distinction of having fought at least three UFC fighters who tested positive for performance enhancing drugs.

Frank Mir, Brock Lesnar, and “Bigfoot” Silva all tested positive for various kinds of steroids after fighting Hunt, and the Australian has been on a warpath against cheaters ever since.

Regardless, Hunt has become one of the most recognizable faces in the UFC, with a knockout-or-be-knocked-out mentality that has earned him fans all over the world.

Hunt wrote an impassioned statement to Players Voice about his fighting career, the cheaters he’s encountered, and the damage done:

“I’ve been fighting since I was a child, fighting to get out of my circumstances. I used to make $300 a week, struggling to put food on the table but I have become one of the highest-paid fighters in the world. I feel that’s destiny. This is what I’m supposed to be doing and if I die fighting, that’s fine. I just hope that if it does happen, it will be in an honest and fair competition.

“My body is f**ked but my mind is still here. I’ve still got my senses about me and I know what’s right and wrong, which is the main thing. Sometimes I don’t sleep well. You can hear me starting to stutter and slur my words. My memory is not that good anymore. I’ll forget something I did yesterday but I can remember the s**t I did years and years ago. That’s just the price I’ve paid – the price of being a fighter. But I’ve fought a lot of drug cheats and copped a lot of punishment from guys who were cheating and that’s not right.”

While Hunt did knock out Mir, he took some serious punishment in a loss to Lesnar and his draw with “Bigfoot” in a fight many consider to be one of the best (and most violent) heavyweight fight in UFC history.

Yet Hunt himself doesn’t feel that way, especially considering Silva popped for steroids after their draw, only to be knocked out cold by Hunt in their rematch at UFC 193.

“Everyone says the first Bigfoot fight is one of the greatest heavyweight bouts of all time, but not for me. It’s stained. That guy ruined everything. You take away his juice and he’s nothing. The first fight we had, we nearly killed each other. The second fight, when he was clean, he didn’t even last a round. He wasn’t the same person as the one that almost frigging killed me.”

Hunt placed the blame on the UFC as well, linking low fighter pay with the incentive to cheat for a bigger payday:

“Even the champion, Stipe Miocic, is asking for more money. How the hell can the champion of the world be asking for a pay rise? Gegard Mousasi is another one. He moved to Bellator and it’s because these guys aren’t getting what they’re worth and they don’t know what the company is making off them.

“I’m just speaking the truth; a lot of fighters are scared to.”

Brock Lesnar’s Lawyers File Motion To Dismiss Mark Hunt’s Lawsuit

Brock Lesnar is fighting back against Mark Hunt’s lawsuit against him, filing a motion to dismiss the case claiming it  “fails miserably, float[ing] on a sea of bombast” and is not “anchored in a bed of facts”. Brock Lesnar is fighting back against Mark Hunt’s lawsuit against him, filing a motion to dismiss the case claiming it  “fails miserably, float[ing] on a sea of bombast” and is not “anchored in a bed of facts”.

Hunt alleges that Lesnar’s two failed drug tests for their UFC 200 heavyweight bout is tantamount to fraud and conspiracy.

On Thursday, Lesnar’s lawyers blasted the lawsuit and asked that the suit be dismissed without allowing Hunt’s side the chance to file again.

“Plaintiff’s complaint is so devoid of any facts to support his RICO and fraud claims that it would be almost impossible for Mr. Lesnar to respond,” read the suit, which was filed in Nevada District Court by attorneys Peter S. Christansen, Kendelee Works and Howard Jacobs on behalf of Lesnar.

Lesnar defeated Hunt by unanimous decision at UFC 200 back in July, but the former UFC heavyweight champ tested positive twice for steroids, leading to the victory being overturned.

Hunt’s attorneys claim that Lesnar knowingly took steroids to cheat “The Super Samoan” out of a potential victory and winning bonus.

“He was in on this,” attorney Christina Denning told MMAjunkie in a previous interview. “He’s coming from the WWE – he’s on steroids – and he can’t sign up officially with the UFC in March, because he’s going to be dumped into this program for doping and he’s going to fail.”

Hunt has been on a warpath against Lesnar as well as the UFC ever since the former champ’s failed tests came to light, even going as far as to demand Lesnar’s entire $2.5 million purse.

However, Lesnar and his lawyers contend that Hunt cannot prove lost wages and damages due to his failed drugs screenings.

“Even if Plaintiff had won the fight against Defendant Lesnar, plaintiff has not and cannot honestly allege that significant economic opportunities would have presented themselves, beyond the opportunity that the UFC has already granted to Plaintiff even in spite of the results at UFC 200,” read Lesnar’s motion.

Hunt’s motions are expected to be heard in court on May 15.

Brock Lesnar Receives One Year Suspension From USADA

Like the commission, USADA has handed Lesnar a one year suspension according to a report from MMAFighting.com.

While it’s unclear whether or not he’ll ever fight again, Lesnar will be able to compete again on July 15, 2017, as the suspension is retroactive to when his provisional suspension begun. The ex-champion failed two drug tests with one being an out-of-competition test and one being an in-competition test.

In addition to his punishment from USADA and his suspension from the commission, Lesnar was also fined $250,000 by the NSAC.

Despite his failed test, Lesnar did in fact compete at UFC 200, as he scored a dominant decision victory over Hunt, although it has since been changed to a no-contest. Both the UFC and Lesnar have come under extreme criticism, as Lesnar was given an exemption from entering the USADA testing pool four months prior to his return.

Hunt has also unleashed on the UFC and Lesnar and he’s threatened the UFC with a lawsuit.

Do you feel as if the punishment fits the crime for the former heavyweight kingpin?

It looks as if a pivotal heavyweight bout could be headed towards March 4’s UFC 209, which is slated to go down from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

According to a report from ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, No. 3-ranked Alistair “The Reem” Overeem and No. 7-ranked Mark “The Super Samoan” Hunt have verbally agreed to terms regarding a bout for this event:

Overeem is coming off of a stoppage loss to reigning champion Stipe Miocic last September at UFC 203. Prior to that he had been riding an impressive four fight win streak that included victories over former champions Junior Dos Santos and Andrei Arlovski as well as Stefan Struve and Roy Nelson.

Hunt, on the other hand, has been dealing with a more complicated situation. He most recently competed at July 9’s UFC 200 where he dropped a decision loss to Brock Lesnar, although it has since been changed to a no contest due to Lesnar failing multiple drug tests. “The Super Samoan” didn’t take Lesnar failing his tests particularly well and he has lashed out on the UFC multiple times over the last few months.

In fact, he asked for a specific clause in his contract regarding opponents potentially failing drug tests, although as Okamoto noted, it’s unclear if the UFC has adhered to his requests:

Yesterday (Dec. 15, 2016), the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) handed former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar a one year suspension and a $250,000 fine for failing multiple drug tests surrounding his UFC 200 (July 9, 2016) bout with Mark Hunt. Lesnar won the bout via decision, although it has sense been changed to a no contest.

In the months since the event, Hunt has made his feelings well known, constantly blasting Lesnar as well as the UFC. Recently speaking with MMAFighting, “The Super Samoan” reacted to Lesnar’s punishment:

“It’s not harsh enough considering he gets the same [punishment] as Jon Jones and Jones didn’t fight,” Hunt said. “Would that penalty have sufficed if I had died or been maimed?”

Jones also failed a drug test prior to UFC 200, although he was pulled from his scheduled main event bout just days before the event.

Hunt has hired a lawyer in recent months in hopes of getting a clause in his contract that protects him from this type of scenario happening to him again. “The Super Samoan” says he’s waiting for the UFC to respond and he admits that he’s willing to take part in a lawsuit:

“I am still waiting on UFC,” he said. “Will they allow my clause or [will] we get into a lawsuit so the whole world can watch?”

What do you make of Lesnar’s suspension?
