Attempting to land her whopping eighth consecutive successful flyweight title defense at UFC 285 this weekend against Alexa Grasso, dominant division finisher, Valentina Shevchenko claims there is only one conceivable outcome to this weekend’s co-main event for her; victory.

Shevchenko, undefeated since her move to the flyweight limit of 125lbs back in February 2018, the Kyrgyzstan native most recently co-headlined UFC 275 last June in Singapore, narrowly defeating Brazilian challenger, Taila Santos in a close, split decision triumph over the course of five rounds.

As for Grasso, the Mexico native has also enjoyed a four-fight unbeaten run at flyweight since her division move back in August 2020, most recently landing a unanimous decision win over Viviane Araujo in the main event of UFC Vegas 62 back in October of last year.

Valentina Shevchenko confident ahead of title defense at UFC 285

Previewing her eighth attempted title defense this weekend in ‘Sin City’, Shevchenko maintained that no matter where their co-main event fight lands inside the Octagon, she will comfortably dominate.

There is one – only one outcome of this fight [with Alexa Grasso],” Valentina Shevchenko told BT Sport. “I will do everything what I have to do to win the fight. It doesn’t matter what I have to do, where the fight’s going to go. Striking, grappling, wrestling – I will find and I will dominate every situation. So the victory is going to be mine.

I trained very hard for this fight,” Valentina Shevchenko explained. “I feel strong, powerful, confident. And I will show it on Saturday.”

Clinching the vacant flyweight title against former strawweight queen, Joanna Jedrzejczyk back in December 2018, Shevchenko, a previous bantamweight title challenger, has since landed successful title defenses over Jessica Eye, Liz Carmouche, Katlyn Chookagian, Jennifer Maia, Jessica Andrade, and the above-mentioned, Santos.

Shevchenko’s title defense against Grasso comes before a vacant heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Ciryl Gane which headlines UFC 285.

Alexander Volkanovski breaks down Valentina Shevchenko vs Alexa Grasso UFC 285

UFC featherweight king Alexander Volkanovski is confident that Valentina Shevchenko can get a victory over Alexa Grasso at UFC 285. The flyweight throne will be on the line for the co-main event of the evening.

Alexander ‘The Great’ Volkanovski has a few notes, though, that he believes would help ‘Bullet‘ Shevchenko. Volkanovski is highly familiar with the Kyrgyzstan-born fighters game as the two trained alongside one another at the Tiger Muay Thai gym in Thailand.

Alexander Volkanovski and his UFC 285 notes for Valentina Shevchenko

On his own YouTube channel, Volkanosvki explained:

“Valentina’s my girl. She’s the GOAT, mate. She’s good. I used to train with her a while ago back in Thailand, and I was telling everyone back then, ‘Watch this girl, ’cause she’s gonna go heaps far.’ We knew how good of a striker she was, and I knew her Muay Thai clinches, and I knew her grappling and wrestling wasn’t too bad as well.

Regarding some adversity in her previous match, Australia’s Volkanosvki is confident she’s patched the issues. He added:

“Her last fight, she had to go through some adversity with the grappling. But I guarantee you Pavel (Fedotov), her coach, has worked on that. I don’t think Alexa has much for her. Obviously, I’m always gonna be bias, but I don’t think it’s bias because I know her. She’s legit. She’s the champ.”

Volkanosvki is hoping to see more aggression from Valentina Shevchenko, he continued:

“She’s more of a counter-fighter… She’s the type of fighter, because she’s so good and got such a good eye, I feel like she can probably do a little more offensively. Like, I feel like she could make the first move more. She’s usually a counter-fighter. She’s really good at it and it’s been working.”

Lastly, on UFC 285’s Valentina Shevchenko, Volkanovski concluded:

“But, I feel she’s in a position where she can definitely dictate the fight wherever it goes, whether she wants to initiate the first combos or initiate the first action. I feel like she’s so good that she can do that.”

Chael Sonnen believes Jon Jones, Valentina Shevchenko and Holly Holm are involved in a love triangle.

Sonnen is known for his crazy allegations. The recent one involving the three fighters tops the list.

During an interview with Barstool Sports, Sonnen spoke about the wild claims.

They have a great story they could tell. That’s their story to tell, but they have a great story to tell. By the time you work Holly Holm in there, you bring in this personal side, and you have two fighters that are very close in weight class. I don’t know if Shevchenko and Holm had fought, and Jones made his choice, it’s one of these situations. You guys see where this gets interesting?” [h/t BJPenn.com]

Jones and Holm were long-time teammates at Jackson Wink MMA Academy. “Bones” and Shevchenko will both fight Saturday at UFC 285. They also fought on the same card in February 2020 at UFC 247.

It’s hard to tell whether Sonnen was joking or not. He did have a feud with Jones in the past. The two legends fought in April 2013 at UFC 159. Jones secured a first-round TKO over Sonnen to retain the light heavyweight title.
