Brock Lesnar’s career in the UFC may have been brief but he left his mark on the sport.

After just one professional fight Lesnar was signed to the UFC but would lose his debut to UFC veteran Frank Mir.

“I was so mad at myself,” Lesnar told The Pat McAfee Show about his first loss. “It just built another thing that the people ram down your throat and say you can’t do something. Love those people. Love them. I get goosebumps for that”.

But after Brock Lesnar’s initial hiccup in the promotion, he would then bounce back.

“I had a one-fight deal [with the UFC], and I was like, ‘Please give me another shot at this.’ Boom, then it took off. I fought Heath Herring and then I got Randy Couture and won the belt.”

Brock would go on to become a pay-per-view star in the early stages of the UFC.

“Dana’s all right,” Lesnar said when addressing his relationship with the UFC president. “I’ve got a lot of money from him. I probably should have got paid more, maybe.”

However, the World Wrestling Entertainment superstar famously had a difficult relationship with current CEO Vince McMahon.

When comparing Dana White and Vince McMahon Brock Lesnar added…

“I really can’t compare the two guys,” Lesnar said. “Honestly, my relationship with Vince is so different than it is with Dana over the years. Vince and I have had a love-hate relationship for the last 20 years, but it’s been good. We have a lot of water under the bridge. I have a lot of respect for both.

“But dealing with Dana, it’s just a totally different business approach. I met Vince when I was younger. I look at Vince more as a father figure actually. Because I’ve learned a lot of things from him, and I was able to carry those things over and handle business with Dana. Vince is a self-made person, so is Dana. Took the company and made it public.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)

CM Punk Is Certain Conor McGregor Will Cross Over Into Pro Wrestling

Vince McMahon, Conor McGregor

Pro wrestling legend CM Punk has no doubt that Conor McGregor will be billy strutting into a WWE arena at some point in the future.

If there is one man who knows a thing or two about crossing over into the unknown it’s CM Punk. Punk dared to try his hand at the highest level of MMA in his pro debut five years ago in the UFC. Punk suffered lopsided defeats in both of his professional bouts, but that doesn’t negate the work that was put in behind the scenes to try a new athletic venture.

But when it comes to cross-over athletes, the most recent poster boys for this movement have been the Paul brothers. From high school wrestlers to burgeoning professional boxers, not only has the duo made an athletic crossover themselves but Jake Paul, in particular, has facilitated the crossover of two MMA athletes and counting, with multiple names in the sport vying to join Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley on the YouTuber’s record.

CM Punk Predicts Conor McGregor Will Join WWE

Speaking with ESPN SportsNation recently, Punk credited the Paul brothers’ courage in their commitment to their new careers and name-dropped a couple of other big-named crossover stars past and future, including the biggest star of them all in the MMA world (h/t Cageside Seats).

“A lot of the times — a lot of the sacrifice goes unnoticed. But it’s what it is. When [Floyd] Mayweather crossed over and did a match at WrestleMania, I’m sure we’re eventually going to see [Conor] McGregor come over… [Ronda] Rousey was excellent when she came over. The bottom line is making money. If you’re making money, you’re technically not really doing anything wrong.”

As Punk mentioned, there have been some notable megastars to enter the pro wrestling ring in the past. Floyd Mayweather performed at WrestleMania 24 in 2008, and Ronda Rousey was a full-time performer from 2018-2019. But what stands out in Punk’s quote is his confidence that McGregor will join these ranks.

The idea of Vince McMahon officially passing the billy-strut torch to McGregor in the WWE has been given life by the Irishman himself. In 2019, McGregor stated that he might consider joining the WWE or Hollywood after his UFC career is over.

This year, a few WWE stars have spoken about McGregor in some capacity. Current WWE Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch contributed a blazing promo ahead of McGregor’s UFC 264 return in July. WWE legend John Cena also stated that he thought McGregor was tailor-made for the company. However, the reigning WWE Champion Big E cautioned that not everyone would be welcoming if the Irishman made the leap to sports entertainment.

CM Punk’s MMA crossover run officially ended when he made his pro wrestling return by signing with All Elite Wrestling in August. If Mystic Punk’s prediction rings true, McGregor’s crossover has yet to begin but is inevitable.

How do you think Conor McGregor would fit in the WWE?

President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that UFC boss Dana White and WWE CEO Vince McMahon will be part of his economic task force.

The task force is believed to be charged with finding ways to boost the American economy which has been destroyed by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and a subsequent lack of industry.

White and McMahon are part of a large group of sports leaders who have been drafted in to help get the ball rolling again as Trump hopes to move America out of lockdown.

Andy Slater confirmed the full list of sports leaders on Twitter, he said. “JUST NOW: Adam Silver, Rob Manfred, Roger Goodell, Gary Bettman, Robert Kraft, Jerry Jones, Dana White, and Vince McMahon are part of a large group that will help advise on how to restart the economy, President Trump says.”

Brett Okamoto later confirmed the news when he spoke to Dana White who announced he’ll be pressing ahead with an event on May 9. He was previously forced to postpone all upcoming shows after Disney/ESPN advised him to do so.

Sports leaders are just one small sector of this taskforce which will see Trump consult experts in various fields as he attempts to bring the US economy back to life. However, the President was adamant about the importance of sports when he spoke on Tuesday and seemed determined to see them back on our screens sooner rather than later, he said.

“In sports – we want to get our sports back, so importantly,” Trump said. “… We have to get our sports back. I’m tired of watching baseball games that are 14 years old. But I haven’t actually had too much time to watch. I would say maybe I watch one batter, and then I get back to work.”

Should Dana White and Vince McMahon be part of President Trump’s task force?

The WWE has been declared an essential business in Florida during the coronavirus pandemic.

Vince McMahon – WWE chairman and CEO received the good news on Monday after lobbying with the powers at be.

Despite every other sport halting its schedule, the WWE has continued to press on with events. Last week they held Wrestlemania over two days to an empty arena. Now it has become clear why McMahon has been allowed to continue with these events during the COVID-19 crisis.

The Mayor of Orange County, Florida, Jerry Demings confirmed to TMZ Sports that the reason WWE continues to hold events at its Performance Institute in Orlando is that the Governor of Florida considers WWE an essential business.

“I think initially there was a review that was done and they were not initially deemed an essential business. With some conversation with the Governor’s office regarding the Governor’s order, they were deemed an essential business. And so, therefore, they were allowed to remain open.” (Transcribed by BJPenn.com)

This news is sure to annoy Dana White who has moved mountains in an attempt to continue hosting events. Last week the bosses at Disney intervened to prevent him from pressing ahead with UFC 249 after the governor of California asked them to shut down the event. He’ll now attempt to set up shop on a private island – the location of which is yet to be revealed.

Is it right to declare WWE essential business during the coronavirus crisis?
