Khamzat Chimaev Ramzan Putin UFC 273

After a hard-fought victory at UFC 273 over Gilbert Burns, Khamzat Chimaev has seemingly paid tribute to one of Vladimir Putin’s close allies, the Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov.

From the Chechen Republic of Russia, it’s not strange necessarily to see ‘Borz’ love his homeland and his country’s president. However, in the wake of what’s happening with the Russia and Ukraine war, it’s been a tad controversial, to say the least, that Chimaev has seemingly dedicated his victory at UFC 273 to president Kadyrov (who’s supporting Putin and his efforts in the war with Ukraine).

“Brother, I know you’re home watching me now,” Chimaev said, as transcribed by MiddleEasy, tagging Kadyrov via Instagram story. “I said I’d finish it quickly today. May Allah be pleased with you, brother, God bless you. I know you’re watching me. May Allah be pleased with all Chechens. God bless you!”

The Friendship of Khamzat Chimaev and Ramzan Kadyrov

‘Borz’ and Kadyrov are actually good friends of almost several years now apparently. The pair can be seen together on multiple Instagram posts, and reportedly have also even sparred before.

Considered a warlord and a known ally of Vladimir Putin, this is definitely an infamous and controversial pal for Khamzat Chimaev to have. However, to date, ‘Borz’ has never really openly discussed his political views and his outlook on the war. For all we know, he could be totally against what’s going on in the Ukraine, or totally in support of the war.

With this win over Burns on his resume, it’s looking like none other than Colby Covington is next for Khamzat Chimaev. That will surely be another thrilling battle that puts the young Chechen-born fighter through another test.

Burns, however, is looking for a rematch with ‘Borz’. Feeling that things could go a lot differently if given five rounds, ‘Durinho’ is hoping Chimaev will grant him a rematch sometime in his next three fights.

What are your thoughts on Khamzat Chimaev’s relationship with Vladimir Putin’s ally: Ramzan Kadyrov?

UFC middleweight contender Paulo Costa is a fan of Russian president Vladimir Putin despite the ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

Many UFC fighters have voiced their thoughts on the ongoing crisis between Ukraine and Russia. Most have criticized Putin and Russia for their actions, but Costa sees it as a sign of strength.

In a recent tweet, Costa praised the Russian leader despite the ongoing crisis in Ukraine and hinted at a comparison to Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro.

“Vladimir Putin Putin is not a weak leader like Biden or Macron,” Costa said. “He’s a former military man who has already been stabbed in the belly and survived. He is another level of world leader. Do you know another Leader who has the same characteristics past?”

Costa isn’t the only UFC fighter who has made his thoughts known on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Sean Strickland and Jan Blachowicz recently engaged in a Twitter debate about the topic, garnering attention from fans on social media.

Costa’s thoughts on Putin are in direct contrast to Ukrainian UFC fighter Maryna Moroz, who has used her platform to bring awareness to the crisis.

Costa is looking to get back in the win column following back-to-back losses to UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and top contender Marvin Vettori. He’s hinted at a return to the Octagon in 2022 but doesn’t have a fight lined up yet.

Do you agree with Paulo Costa’s take on Vladamir Putin?

Because of the assault on Ukraine, World Taekwondo has taken away Vladimir Putin’s Honorary 9th Dan Taekwondo Black Belt he earned in 2013.

Many believe the current war in Europe is unnecessary and a selfish act of cruelty.

When World Taekwondo bestowed the 9th Dan Taekwondo belt upon Putin, the expectation was that he maintain the courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit that is learned through the Korean martial art. The high achievement is beyond some Taekwondo masters.

According to the President of World Taekwondo, Choue Chung-won, his recent actions prove the absence of the five principles of Taekwondo. And because of it, the organization has decided to take away the honorary belt.

On February 28, World Taekwondo released a statement:

“Peace is more precious than triumph” and the World Taekwondo values of respect and tolerance. In this regard, World Taekwondo has decided to withdraw the honorary 9th dan black belt conferred to Mr. Vladimir Putin in November 2013.”

In addition to stripping Putin’s belt, Russia and Belarus’s influence has been removed from the Olympics.

“In solidarity with the International Olympic Committee, no Russian or Belarusian national flags or anthems will be displayed or played at World Taekwondo events. World Taekwondo and the European Taekwondo Union will not organise or recognise Taekwondo events in Russia and Belarus.”

The decision adds to a long, growing list of sanctions against Russia.

For example, the International Judo Association suspended Putin as their honorary President and Ambassador. Additionally, sports organizations such as soccer, basketball, ice hockey, and many others have banned Russian athletes from competing.

Sadly, as Ukrainian citizens suffer, natives of Russia are also being held accountable for Vladimir Putin’s actions.

What are your thoughts on the sanctions against Vladimir Putin and Russia?

Khabib Nurmagomedov continues to be a star in his home country of Russia.

“The Eagle” successfully defended his lightweight title against Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 this past weekend in Abu Dhabi. Despite some adversity, Nurmagomedov was able to get the win with a third-round submission.

According to reports, 26 million viewers watched the fight in Russia. So it’s fair to say that Nurmagomedov is a star in Russia and that was further solidified with him meeting Russian president Vladimir Putin.

The video was posted by UFC president Dana White who adds that the head of Dagestan Vladimir Vasiliev was also there to meet with Nurmagomedov and his father. You can watch the video below:

“I want to congratulate you. It was a decent fight against a strong and tenacious rival,” Putin told Nurmagomedov (via RT translation).

“Yes, the opponent was strong and respectable. This time around I fought against a person who respected me,” Nurmagomedov replied while referencing Conor McGregor.

“Well it depends on the person,” Putin responded. “But of course a professional athlete should be like this. You had a convincing victory. I watched the fight, you submitted him with a rear-naked choke, it was a classic choke hold. You did it in the correct way, without squeezing his throat, but holding him on both sides of the neck, as it should be. It was all fair.”

Putin notably met with Nurmagomedov following the latter’s win over McGregor last year as well.

What do you think of Nurmagomedov and his popularity?

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Khabib Nurmagomedov tp congratulates the champ on a ‘worthy’ UFC 229 win.

Nurmagomedov already received a hero’s welcome and a phone call from President Putin. But on Wednesday in the city of Ulyanovsk at the “Russia – Country of Sports” forum, Khabib found himself in the company of the Russian President. Nurmagomedov’s father Abdulmanap was also in attendance.

Unfortunately, Khabib’s performance was overshadowed. And it was all because of the post-fight melee that ensued. Because of his son’s actions, Abdulmanap promised to punish Khabib tougher than the UFC would.

However, President Putin said he would ask Abdulmanap to go easy on Khabib.

“I will ask your father not to punish you too strictly, because you achieved the main task, worthily and convincingly,” Putin said, via RT.com.

However briefly, Nurmagomedov did apologize for his actions at the UFC 229 post-fight press conference. Then he almost immediately back-peddled shifting the blame to one Conor McGregor.

Nurmagomedov also said he expected to be punished by his father:

“I know my father gonna smash me when I go home because … I know he gonna smash me,” said Khabib.

Maybe Putin was able to convince Abdulmanap to be lenient on Khabib. After all, he is the greatest lightweight fighter in the world and his performance last Saturday night was nothing short of masterful.
