Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight Walt Harris has been temporarily suspended by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC). Harris competed at UFC 232 back in December. He earned a split decision victory over Andrei Arlovski. Harris tested positive for LGD4033, which is in the same family as selective androgen receptor modules (SARMs). Harris’ ‘B’ sample will be […]

UFC strawweight Cynthia Calvillo tested positive for marijuana following her fight at UFC 219, and the fallout has been confusing and disheartening, according to Calvillo herself.
Calvillo holds a medical marijuana card in her home state of California, and competed at UFC 219, which was held in Las Vegas, Nevada, where medicinal marijuana is also legal. However, USADA forbids it regardless of legality or medical permission, which has naturally caused some confusion for fighters like Calvillo.
“I really didn’t think I was doing anything wrong. I’m not trying to be a rebel, just, I don’t know. It just really, really sucks that I’m in this position right now.”
“They say you have to be literally pretty super, super high in order to test positive the day of the fight. There’s no way in hell I smoked or took any cannabis the week of my fight at all. Let alone the day of my fight.”
“They tell us, like, they’re comfortable about how much time you would need to be cleared for in-competition testing. The last time I had consumed cannabis was on Christmas Eve, which was the week of the fight. I usually use it for sleeping, I use it for inflammation, I have had my medical card for over two years. It’s something I’ve used especially because I had an injury where I broke arm my three times in a row, and so I use it for the medical component and cannabis, CBD does help heal your bones. I was also having trouble sleeping for a long time [and it’s] better than using over-the counter stuff.”
Many athletes have praised the use of cannabis and CBD oil for recovery after grueling trainings and workouts. Nate Diaz even boldly vaped CBD oil at a post-fight press conference, so it’s use is at least somewhat prevelant amongst MMA fighters.
Calvillo was retroactively suspended for nine months from the December 30 fight date and was fined 15 percent of her fight purse following her loss to Carla Esparza at UFC 219.
Do you think Calvillo’s punishment is too harsh considering she has a medicinal marijuana card in her home state?

Holly Holm is back in the news for endorsing yet another supplement company selling WADA and UFC-prohibited substances…….
Heading into her anticipated UFC 197 title bout versus Miesha Tate, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm is back in the news for endorsing yet another controversial supplement company.
Following her shocking UFC 193 knockout win over former dominant champion Ronda Rousey, Holm was linked to supplement maker Intel Pharma, who produced WADA-banned steroid alternative Selective Androgen Modulator Receptors (SARMS), but after cutting ties with the company, now she’s apparently signed a new deal with yet another controversial bodybuilding company.
USA TODAY Sports has reported that Holm recently signed a new two-year deal with Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals according to their owner Jared Wheat. Holm will supposedly appear in an ad for the company alongside five of their products which contain banned stimulant DMAA. The stimulant is comparable to amphetamine and was labeled a potentially serious health risk by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) in 2013. The FDA also revealed that DMMA had lead to 86 ‘adverse health events.’
The FDA also seized $2 million worth of the supplement, which is advertised as being a weight loss and performance and enhancement facilitator, from Hi-Tech in 2013, but the company continues to sell DMAA while they remain tied up in court proceedings over the controversial substance.
And they don’t seem to be all that bashful about putting that out in the public, with one product of description of DMAA boasting the following:
“Most companies let the FDA intimidate them into stopping the sales of this extremely potent combination’’ reads one product description. “….Well not Hi-Tech!”
Neither Holm nor his manager were willing to comment on the subject when contacted by USA TODAY, but the UFC issued a quick statement to the news outlet. Jump to page two to find out what they said about their newly crowned champion…

Testosterone and MMA go hand-in-hand like whiskey and breakfast (except they don’t hold hands, of course, because that’s what queers do). Unfortunately for many of today’s aging MMA stars, naturally produced testosterone dries up faster than a crick in a west Texas drought once they turn 30, forcing many of these dinosaurs to resort to the synthetic stuff in order to compete with the whipper-snappers who are trying to shamelessly take their jobs. And so, TRT was born.
While fighters like Vitor Belfort have utilized TRT to (literally) inject new life into their MMA careers, fighters like Robert Drysdale have damn near killed theirs before they even got started by abusing the stuff to a comical degree. Fortunately for Drysdale, it looks like the UFC will be letting him off easy for essentially pissing pure HGH last week and being subsequently pulled from UFC 167. A UFC rep recently spoke with MMAJunkie about Drysdale’s future in the organization following his botched drug test. In short, it’s still a go!
Obviously, Robert needs to establish that he is medically fit to participate and apply for the appropriate licensure,” the rep wrote in a prepared statement. “Assuming he is able to do this, he will fight for the organization at some point in the future.”
NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer said commissioners for the regulatory body will decide whether to place Drysdale on a future agenda to address the failed test. As of today, the commission also hasn’t levied any disciplinary action.
While we can’t imagine that this is the first impression the BJJ legend was hoping to make with the UFC, at least we will be able to see whether or not he was worth all the trouble he has given them so far. Hooray?

I was just trying to say how committed I am to achieving something. Why would I want to do something that’s going to hurt me? Just to make people feel good? Haters are always going to be there. People are always going to talk about you because you are somebody. Like I’ve said, this [TRT] can’t teach people to knock people out with kicks and perform.
I was just kind of showing how motivated I am. Of course, they won’t allow that to happen. It’s unhealthy for me. It would be unfair. If you’re doing something right, everything goes good.
At this point, I can’t even muster the energy to comment on Belfort’s continuous flip-flopping. He is to TRT what Oprah is to dieting, and being that anyone who questions a former steroid user’s insistence or need to be on TRT is immediately dubbed a “hater” by fighters and fans alike, I’ll just leave this most recent blurb up to you Taters for analysis.
I think it’s a great idea, and I’m a big supporter of it. I think our sport and the commission taking actions like this is putting us ahead of the game compared to other sports. We’re not putting out a fire. We’re attacking the problem before it becomes an epidemic.
