War Machine (aka Jon Koppenhaver) was set to appear at a preliminary hearing this Friday, but the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Koppenhaver’s lawyer Brandon Sua asked Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Melanie Tobiasson for time to present prosecutors with “a plea deal to resolve the case…without further litigation and pretrial proceedings.” Tobiasson agreed, and gave Koppenhaver’s lawyers another month to investigate the charges against him. The prosecution is playing along, for now:
Chief Deputy District Attorney Jacqueline Bluth said [Christy] Mack and [Corey] Thomas were ready to testify at a preliminary hearing slated for Friday.
But, she added, “the state is always willing to take into consideration any information the defense would like to present”…
Bluth was also quick to say that defense lawyers should not delay the case in an attempt to “ice the victim” or wait for memory of the attack and wounds to subside.
“It is not going to work,” Bluth said. “The victim is always going to be cooperative with us. Both victims in this case want to get this process going”…
Koppenhaver faces life in prison without parole on 32 counts, including attempted murder, sexual assault, battery, coercion, preventing or dissuading a witness or victim from reporting a crime, and first-degree kidnapping resulting in substantial bodily harm.
It’s disappointing, in a way; I would have loved to see War Machine maintain his innocence in court while his lawyer tries to explain what a good guy he is without breaking into laughter. Instead, Koppenhaver will likely admit to some charges so that he can avoid a life of incarceration. We leave you with War Machine’s most recent twitter-poem, published last Friday:
In the blink of an eye,
I lost my life.
How did a nice surprise,
End in strife?
Why was I dealt this,
Horrible hand by fate?
Lured into the depths of hell,
With love as the bait.
This is a nightmare,
From which I can not wake.
There’s too much pain,
It’s more than I can take.
I have no recourse,
My hands are tied.
There is no justice in the world,
The gods have lied.
So for now,
I just sit and wait.
I’ll always regret the day I chose,
Love over hate.
It has been just two months since Christy Mack was heinously assaulted by former boyfriend Jon “War Machine” Koppenhaver, and the adult film star is still facing a long road to recovery. While her ex-boyfriend has been claiming that she “got what she deserved” while awaiting trial ever since, the adult film community has rallied to support Mack, raising nearly $100,000 to pay for the long list of medical expenses that she has ahead of her.
In the time since her assault, Mack has remained all but silent on social media, only occasionally emerging to thank her fans for their ongoing support. Recently however, Mack posted a photo update to to her Instagram page and let us know how her recovery is going, along with the following description:
Sometimes half of your temp teeth decide to fall out to match the rest of your face. Thanks to Dr. Motykie for fixing the damage to my nose, and Dr. Adam Lousignont of Las Vegas for the temp tooth fix… again. Left was Monday right is today. What a difference a few days makes! I’m starting to breathe out of my nose again and today I’m going to get my glasses. One day soon I’ll be going to New York to see Dr. Toscano and get my permanent teeth.
Just an awful, awful situation that Mack has been subjected to, and one made even worse thanks to the heartless reaction she has received from the always reliable Internet.
You see, because Ms. Mack happens (or happened) to work in porn, she is therefore a target of perpetual cynicism, sexism, and misogyny — a truly vile and heartless creature who deserves no sympathy other than that found in the form of a rehashed punchline. And while we all know that the UG forums have devolved from a once respectable place of humorous information-sharing to a TMZ-esque cesspool of hate and gossip (not unlike some place you know, amiright?), their treatment of Mack’s recovery has lowered the bar to a level that not even James Cameron could attempt to rescue.

Well, Mack’s claimed that she is done with porn, but you totally dissed her there, bro!! Up top!!
It’s more likely that her face is unrecognizable due to the 18 broken bones around her eyes, broken nose in 2 places, and several missing and broken teeth she suffered while being beaten by a trained killing machine who holds close to 100 pounds on her, but yeah, dick jokes!! (*fist pumps*)
I get it, because dongs go in there! No wonder there are so many sought-after toothless pornstars dominating the business! Logic burn FTW!!
OK, this one was kind of funny.
Alright, we’re right back to making rape jokes about a woman who was brutally assaulted! And outsiders say that our sport breeds a culture of “horrific misogyny” and “biological determinism masquerading as enlightenment.” Way to prove them wrong, buddy!
Jesus. This one’s not even a joke. It’s just plain mean-spirited, is what it is. I feel bad for the small army of stray cats this person has drowned in their bathtub in between bouts of self-scarification and crying jags.
Ehem…
Our buddy Vince over at Filmdrunk has a saying that goes something like, “Be nice to the people that give you a boner,” and it could not be more relevant to the cretins on this UG thread. For the life of me, I will never understand how people like these can…let’s say frequent the work of someone like Ms. Mack one minute while slut-shaming them the next. It would be like going to your favorite restaurant and ordering a Prime Rib, then insulting the chef before telling him that you’ll be back tomorrow to see what piece of shit he’ll cook up next.
And look, I’m not going to act like I’m someone who doesn’t appreciate dark humor. I made a joke about tryptophan being the preferred date rape drug at Thanksgiving last year, and have laughed at more 9/11 jokes than I care to admit. But I also have the common decency to realize that maybe an issue like a woman being beaten within an inch of her life warrants a little restraint, especially in the time before she has even recovered from it. Was Ms. Mack involved in a somewhat questionable industry in many of our eyes? Perhaps, but for the love of God people, that in no way equates to the vicious response she has received while trying to recover from the most physically and emotionally damaging period of her young life.
So I praise you, Parts Unknown, for being a goddamn human being. As for the other 99% of UGers who used Mack’s recovery as an opportunity to lob unoriginal, hate-filled jokes her way, congrats. MMARoasted would be so proud.

There’s rarely any “good” new when discussing domestic violence. There’s only varying shades of terrible.
Today, we have a story that’s the least horrible thing we’ve had to write about the War Machine/Christy Mack saga. Mack posted an update on her Twitter account. She’s still in as rough shape as anyone could expect after being nearly killed, but is in much higher spirits and is starting to feel like herself again.

I’ve had several dentist visits to make eating more comfortable and make my smile look more normal. I still have a few more dental visits to go. I’ve had my eyes checked and made aware that I’m very lucky to have my vision where it is, since the muscle is tethered by the fragments from the blowout fracture in my left eye. My multiple nose fractures will be fixed in the next couple of months. While they’re fairly symmetrical, my nose is shifted on the inside and out causing breathing issues (I also make everyone feel how my bones stick out on the left side because it feels so weird). My top lip will regain movement in less than six months … looking forward to using straw again.
My liver seems to be alright. I was admitted back to the hospital shortly after I was released the first time for some minor treatment, but I did not have surgery. While my face is starting to look decent again from the swelling going down, it is still not my own. Cutting what was left of my hair off, and losing 15 pounds (which is a lot when you’re 5’1″) made me feel even further away from myself. It’s hard to look in the mirror every day and see someone you do not know.
After having make up done and dressing up for yesterday’s charity event, I feel much better about how I look now. It made me feel more normal and beautiful for the first time in a very long time. The event that I went to was for Face Forward. A non-profit charity that funds surgeries for women and children that have been in horrible situations that require them to have reconstructive surgery. They are not funding me, my surgeries are being donated by other doctors. I met many wonderful people and look forward to working more with them in the future.

Much-reviled MMA fighter War Machine (aka Jon Koppenhaver) made his first court appearance in Las Vegas today, following the alleged assault of his girlfriend Christy Mack last month. The UFC/Bellator veteran was formally read the charges against him, which now include allegations of attempted murder and sexual assault dating back to May 2013. As the Las Vegas Review Journal reports:
Koppenhaver, who originally faced nine charges in connection with the alleged attack last month, now faces a total of 32 counts, including attempted murder, sexual assault, battery, coercion, preventing or dissuading a witness or victim from reporting a crime, and first-degree kidnapping resulting in substantial bodily harm.
According to @PandulloLaw, the number of charges is actually 31, with an original lewdness charge now dropped. Also, this:
Koppenhaver was ordered to be held without bail, and is due back in court on October 17th. He faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Koppenhaver, who was captured by US Marshals last week while hiding out in Simi Valley, California, has something of a history of violence and general sketchiness when it comes to women, you see. He’s been arrested what feels like a dozen times now for starting bar brawls, crashing a porn star’s birthday party (with his fists), and most recently, brutalizing girlfriend Christy Mack in particularly heinous fashion. He will more than likely assault a fellow inmate and/or have sex with deli meat within the following weeks, and is overall just a terrible, terrible human being who deserves none of our sympathy.
But what I (and therefore you Taters) have been wondering in these troubling times is: What does Ken Shamrock have to say about all this?
Well, strap in brothers and sisters, because shit’s about to get weird…

Well, strap in brothers and sisters, because shit’s about to get weird…
In a recent interview with News Diamant, Shamrock opened up about his history with Koppenhaver and how if he ever saw him again he would break his neck. Why? “Issues.”
The thing that’s sad about this is, I started Jon. When he first came into MMA, I’m the one that broke him into it in San Diego. I had issues with him. My 17-year-old daughter and Jon was 20-something years old, well he took her to Mexico and left her over there. He then ended up disappearing and I haven’t seen him since.
He’s always been hiding from me because he knows if I see himI’ll break his neck. He’s always had an issue with this and the guy needs help. He doesn’t need to do it by himself, he needs to, by the court, be put into some sort or rehab so he starts understanding. Because it doesn’t have anything to do with him naturally, it’s when he starts partying and out doing things he shouldn’t be doing.
Ok, I’m going to go ahead and call Shammy’s parenting skills into serious question here. I know hindsight is 20-20, but please, could someone with a child in their teens explain to me the circumstances in which they would allow their 17 year-old daughter go to Mexico with a 20-something MMA fighter? It’s almost as if Ken learned nothing about the dangers that lie south of the border from his star-making turn as Coach Ramsey in Scarecrow Gone Wild.
“The World’s Most Dangerous Man” also weighed in on whether or not he thought “Dog the Bounty Hunter” would catch “War Machine” and this is already the greatest sentence I have ever written:
I don’t know if Dog will find him. I hope he does. If he does, he needs to watch himself, because Jon is a loose cannon. If they do find him they need to make sure they take every precaution as possible and not worry about [Jon’s] safety, worry about their own.
But if they don’t catch him, somebody will turn him in. You can’t go around this long and be hiding in different places without somebody saying something. And the right thing to do is, is not to hide this guy. I’m telling you, he’s bad news.
Glad you could clear that up, Ken.
Check out a video of Shamrock’s interview above (which also features Rashad Evans and Wanderlei Silva‘s thoughts on Koppenhaver), then pray to God your son or daughter is never caught within 20 miles of a Koppenhaver or a Shamrock.
Although his firing has yet to be made official, it appears that Baroni has in fact been let go for his ongoing support of War Machine, even as the horrendous allegations and charges against him continue to pile up. Then again, Baroni’s defense of his former training partner could just be the out Coker was looking for to send the NYBA packing. For one, Baroni’s dropped his past three fights in a row. For two, he was smoked by Karo Parisyan in his promotional debut at Bellator 122. And for three, he can’t even spell the name of the promotion he was fighting in. Three strikes, you’re out!
Now, if only we can make it to the end of this sentence without Coker immediately contradicting his decision to steer clear of anyone even relatively involved in a domestic violence case…
