WEC 51 Gamburyan Vs. Aldo goes live tonight from Broomfield, Colorado and is being widely regarded as one of the most stacked cards of the year.  One particular most anticipated fight on the line is the Featherweight bout between George Roop and “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung.  What is most important about this fight is that Jung is coming in off a hard fought Split Decision loss to Leonard Garcia in a Fight of the Night bout most are considering to be Fight of the Year.  Roop’s last fight was also a Fight of the Night brawl against Garcia which ended in a controversial Draw that many say would have tipped in Roop’s favor had he not been deducted a point for a groin kick.  Though many expected Garcia and Roop to sign up for a rematch, Roop requested to fight Chan Sung Jung after his loss to Garcia.  When MMAFix asked Roop why he requested Jung he simply said, “because I want to be in the most exciting fights.”

Roop versus Jung has all the makings for excitement given their individual battles against Garcia and the matchup stylistically.  Both are well-rounded fighters and though George Roop has the height advantage standing at 6′1″ over Jung who is 5′7″, they both have a reach of 72″.   When asked by TheGarv how Jung would try to overcome Roop’s height advantage, Jung said, “I’ve been trying to get taller…”

Roop has told MMAFix that “The Zombie is going down like a blonde on prom night.” It’s good both fighters are keeping their sense of humor. Going into the cage tonight is about garnering a win but for the viewers at home, it’s also about getting to watch a good exciting fight and with Roop versus Jung, that’s exactly what we expect. Hey, it’s Thursday night, maybe Versus could steal a que from NBC and call this “Must See TV”.

Manny Gamburyan might be the only person picking Manny Gamburyan over Jose Aldo in Thursday’s featherweight title fight at WEC 51 in Broomfield, Colo.

It won’t be Aldo’s previous opponent, Urijah Faber, who picked Aldo to win on Thursday’s edition of The MMA Hour.

“Aldo’s probably going to win by decision cause Manny is a really durable dude,” Faber initially said, when asked by host Ariel Helwani.

However, after reminded that the fight will be five rounds, Faber leaned towards a more definitive finish.

“There’s going to be some sort of kicking involved,” Faber said. “Maybe a TKO in the third round.”

Leonard Garcia isn’t ashamed to admit it: sometimes he’s scared when he walks into the cage on fight night. In fact, he prefers it that way. If the opponent he’s fighting isn’t at least a little bit terrifying, then what’s the point?

“I don’t want to walk into a fight thinking I can win,” Garcia told MMA Fighting. “I want to walk in feeling a little worried about the guy. The fights that scare me are the ones where I think I do my best. I feel like it’s really important to have a guy in front of you that scares you.”

That’s how it was when he met Chan Sung Jung in his last bout, he said, and look how well that one turned out. And when he faced Hiroyuki Takaya at WEC 32?

“I was scared to death,” he said. “And Jens Pulver, too. All three of those fights, it was like pins and needles the whole time. I felt it walking in.”
