According to Tito Ortiz, longtime member of Invicta FC Champion Cris Cyborg’s team (and her former manager), Cyborg would have done the same thing to Ronda Rousey that Holly Holm did at UFC 193 had she been given the opportunity to do so first.

Ortiz spoke with MMAFighting.com recently and explained why Cyborg would have knocked out Rousey too, and is willing to do what it takes to put together a superfight against current UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Holly Holm.

“Cris Cyborg is the pound-for-pound best woman in the world, I believe. Holly Holm did what Cris would have done to Ronda. Holly Holm got that chance. She’s a great woman champion. But Cris is one of the most vicious fighters in the world. She just attacks. There’s no woman fighter in the world like her at all. She’s bred to fight. She comes from Brazil and Brazilians are the toughest fighters in the world. She loves this. This is fun for her.

Just keep giving her fights as the UFC did with Ronda. Ronda just kept getting fights, getting fights. The other girls huff and puff and scream and yell. Those are the ones that are the weakest, but they look good for pay-per-view, they look good for interviews. When it’s fight time, Holly Holm, Ronda Rousey, Cris Cyborg are at the top of the world. The rest of the women are looking up at them.

Holly Holm said she would come up and Cris would cut that extra five pounds. That extra five pounds is hurting her a little bit, but Cris is willing to do it. Just to give it to the fans. That’s the kind of fighter Cris is, to give the fans fights. That’s what she wants. She’ll fight anybody, man.”

Laila Ali Predicts Holm-Rousey II Will Be The Same Or Worse As Their First Fight For Rousey

Former UFC title contender Chael Sonnen recently interviewed former women’s boxing mega-star and the daughter of “The Greatest Of All-Time” Muhammad Ali — Laila Ali — for a new episode of “Beyond The Fight” this week. The former undefeated women’s boxing champion got the attention of the MMA world by making a bold prediction for a potential Holly Holm vs. Ronda Rousey rematch.

Ali spoke to “The American Gangster” about her own personal history with Holm before ultimately explaining why she feels Holm will look as good or better if she retains her title against Miesha Tate at UFC 196 and fights Rousey in a rematch in November, which is what UFC President Dana White stated was the plan during an interview on Wednesday.

According to Laila, the big reasons why Rousey was picked apart and ultimately knocked out inside of two rounds was due to a few factors, including what Ali alluded to being a false sense of confidence on Rousey’s part in her belief that she was the best fighter in the world, a lack of respect for Holm’s striking ability in particular, and an extreme lack of head movement during standup exchanges.

“I personally do not think that she’ll beat Holly Holm [in a rematch],” said Ali during the interview with Chael Sonnen, which you can listen to via the video player embedded above. “I think that if she fought her again, then the same thing and worse will happen. Holly Holm was just getting warmed up. You know what I’m saying? She was just getting warmed up. She had nerves, too. This was her big moment.”

Ali continued, explaining how she could tell almost immediately that Rousey wasn’t going to beat Holm in their first meeting at UFC 193 last November, despite the fact that Holm was one of the biggest betting underdogs in MMA history going into the Octagon at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.

“I noticed right away when the fight started, I was like, ‘She doesn’t have any head movement,'” Ali said. “She came straight in and she got busted in the face so many times where she had a bloody nose.

“I saw that the girl she fought wasn’t really a challenge for her, but I was able to see her mistakes. Not moving your head is a big mistake when you’re getting into the ring with someone who has a boxing background.”

Additionally, Ali echoed post-fight sentiments shared by many fans, as well as many people who are personally involved in the sport of MMA in regards to Ronda Rousey not being as good as people thought, but rather a product of the UFC’s excellent promoting abilities mixed with a weak level of opposition in Women’s MMA.

“People hype fighters up, but at the end of the day, what did Ronda Rousey have? 12 fights, something like that,” Ali said. “And they’re calling her the best fighter ever, and I see that she truly believes that about herself.

“You’re only as good as the opposition you face. There were some girls out there I never had the opportunity to face. But I saw Ronda Rousey kind of act like she really does believe that she’s the best female fighter in the world. I was thinking, wow, she hasn’t even faced some of the other girls that are considered to be the best.”

Ronda Rousey’s Coach: “Have We Been Doing Everything Wrong? No.”

Coming out of Ronda Rousey’s devastating loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, a lot of criticism has been heaped upon her head coach. Edmond Tarverdyan. Going into the fight, there was already a lot of questioning of his coaching acumen, thanks in large part to a series of videos where Rousey’s mother (former world champion judoka AnnMaria De Mars) ripped Tarverdyan, and it only got worse. Rousey appeared to be completely ill-equipped to fight someone who could outstrike her, much less one big and strong enough to not get bullied in the cage. Worse, after Holm lit up Rousey for almost the entirety of the first round, Tarverdyan showered her with praise in the corner about how great she was doing.

Tarverdyan has finally spoken out about the criticism in an interview with ESPN. He told Brett Okamoto that”It was the biggest loss of my career. You know you won’t ever want that to happen again. So what that means is, I’ve got to work harder. Every little thing I’ve got to be honest with and make sure that we’re ready to go.” That last sentence is interesting in light of him being under investigation for tax evasion and recently having his second’s license suspended in California for lying on his application.

Then the interview gets a bit weird:

Yeah, there was a lot of criticism afterwards about adding a boxing coach. MMA is not a boxing game, but Ronda got caught, and we will be taking advice from boxing trainers. I don’t think it’s going to be a situation about adding a boxing coach, it’s about getting more thoughts from boxing trainers. I will be speaking to them and getting in the best advice. And if I feel it’s necessary we will bring them in. But besides boxing, even the wrestling, the judo, the grappling aspect of it — just approaching the fight in general, there will be a bit of things that we could add. We’re not going to sit here and change everything that we’ve done, we’ve done stuff that I think is working, it’s been great. We’re not going to have something so much different for Ronda. Have we been doing everything wrong? No, that’s not the situation. It’s a fight, Ronda got caught with a shot, and it was a little bit of a roller coaster from there.

The first thing that jumps out is that Tarverdyan IS a boxing coach who purportedly trained Vic Darchinyan at one point. This SHOULD be his wheelhouse. So why is he now saying that boxing coaches are the people who he should consult? Combine that with how h’s mostly speaking in generalities, and it reads like he’s obfuscating. He also claims that “A lot of people might think Ronda didn’t move her head when she was moving forward and she got popped with a shot. Ronda does know how to move her head. Ronda moved her head and avoided a lot of short, stocky straight shots, and she got into a beautiful clinch.” If you’ve seen the fight, then you remember that Holm’s left straight was the punch that Rousey had the most trouble with.

It’s worth reading the whole article and watching the video on the ESPN site. He talks about how Rousey has made adjustments after fights in the past, like trying to avoid giving up her back after Liz Carmouche got her in a face crank.

It looks like Ronda Rousey’s new jewelry has caught the attention of a name from Travis Browne’s past.

Jenna Renee Webb, the soon-to-be ex-wife of the UFC Heavyweight star, who is now openly dating Ronda Rousey, took to social media following rumors of a “promise ring” Rousey was rumored to be wearing during her SNL appearance.

Webb posted — and later deleted — the following harsh “meme” after seeing the ring.

She later took to Twitter to comment further on accusations of Browne being involved in domestic abuse in the past, writing, “”When he hits you across your pretty face, don’t worry I’ll be right here to say #IToldYouSo,”

She also posted this one:

It is believed that the following post from Rousey is directed at Webb, however that is strictly rumor at this point.

While many have been complimentary of Ronda Rousey’s performance as host of Saturday Night Live this weekend, one longtime rival was less than impressed with “Rowdy” Ronda.

Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino took to social media early Sunday morning, almost immediately after SNL concluded, to blast Rousey just days after seemingly “taking it easy” on Rousey when discussing her during a recent media interview.

Cyborg, who related to Rousey dealing with the public reaction to her first pro MMA loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193 in November during a recent interview, logged onto Twitter to take a shot at Rousey, using a double-pun to blast the female UFC star.

“Watching SNL and it looks like Ronda Rousey still needs help on her standup,” wrote the Invicta FC Featherweight Champion, referring to Rousey’s comedic ability as much as her stand-up striking ability.
