Yair Rodriguez and Jeremy Stephens can’t wait to get their hands on each other tomorrow night at UFC Boston. The pair initially met in the main event of UFC Mexico City earlier this year.

However, the fight started with an immediate eye poke from Rodriguez that was so bad that Stephens was unable to continue fighting. As a result, the fight was ruled a No Contest after just a few seconds of action. The angry Mexican crowd began tossing trash into the Octagon out of anger, with Rodriguez showing a ton of frustration for how the fight ended as well.

Rodriguez later claimed he believed Stephens was milking the eye poke for more than what it actually was. This sparked a physical altercation between the two in the lobby of their Mexico hotel. Now, the UFC has rebooked the fight for UFC Boston tomorrow night, and the bad blood continues to flow, as Stephens recently said he wants to “kill” Rodriguez when they fight Friday night.

“Cool as a cucumber. Calm like a bomb. Ready to go off. I’m gonna kill this kid. If he don’t die, it don’t count. That’s what I’m thinking. It’s always personal. It’s always personal when you fight, this kid’s trying to take money off my kid’s table. What if I was coming into your house, taking food off your table and smacking your kid?

“That’s the way I look at it. How would you feel if I was to do that? Personal? F**k yeah, it’s personal. It’s a fight. You only get one cheque if you lose, you think this is a game? You think this is a sport? It’s not a sport, it’s fist fighting bro. I’m fighting for my blood, I’m fighting for my family every time I step in there.”

Rodriguez recently responded to Stephens’ controversial remarks in a pre-fight interview with MMA Junkie. Here’s what he had to say. (H/T BJPenn.com)

“I think everybody has their own battles to deal with. If he thinks that way, then God bless him, bro, because he’s in the deep s*** right here. I think he already has a lot of problems in his life and stuff that he has to deal with that I don’t even want to really keep on pushing too much into his head.

“I want him fresh for this fight because he’s a tough opponent and I don’t want him to be weak. He’s just showing me that he’s weak, and I want him fresh. I want you fresh, bro.”

Now, the fight has been re-booked for UFC Boston this weekend, where it will serve as the co-main event. There has been bad blood between Stephens and Rodriguez since the uneventful finish of their UFC Mexico City bout. Rodriguez believes Stephens might have milked the eye poke for more than what it really was. As a result, Stephens didn’t take too kindly to that.

Stephens hopes to snap a two-fight losing streak against the Mexican striker. In his previous two bouts before the No Contest with Rodriguez, Stephens lost to José Aldo and Zabit Magomedsharipov. As for Rodriguez, he took out “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung with a vicious fifth-round knockout before his No Contest with Stephens.

The UFC Mexico City event this past weekend was extremely disappointing for mixed martial arts (MMA) fans everywhere.

Featherweights Jeremy Stephens and Yair Rodriguez main evented the night, in what many expected to be a chaotic bout. However, 15 seconds into the fight, Rodriguez poked Stephens’ eye so bad that he was unable to continue fighting. After the bout, Rodriguez began to flip out, snapping at UFC Hall Of Famer Michael Bisping, and claiming Stephens might have been milking the severity of the poke.

Rodriguez actually confronted Stephens face-to-face in the lobby of their Mexico hotel, leading to Stephens shoving Rodriguez away, as the pair needed to be separated. Now, the fight has been rescheduled for UFC Boston in October. On the latest episode of his “Below The Belt” podcast, former UFC heavyweight-turned-comedian, Brendan Schaub, offered his thoughts on the matter. (H/T BJPenn.com)

“This is what’s interesting to me about this,” Schaub said. “I could understand if it was like a new kid. Say some up-and-comer who you’re like, ‘man he didn’t seem like he wanted to be in there,’ or something like that. But Jeremy Stephens is a dog.

“You think he trained at high altitude for weeks and put his body through all that f*cking stress and the freaking hustle that he did to get in that shape, and you think he would just kinda look for a way out because of an eye poke? You’re out your goddamn mind.”

Schaub also didn’t shy away from letting it be known that he’s hoping Stephens puts Rodriguez in his place for his actions when they run things back.

“It makes Yair look bad, the sh*t he was talking about Jeremy Stephens,” Schaub continued. “Yair, the way he acted towards Bisping. That kid man, I don’t know if it’s the group around him or what but you wanna talk about mismanaged career thus far. And this ain’t helping his cause at all.

“This does not make me wanna jump aboard the Yair Rodriguez train at all. I hope they do fight again and I hope Jeremy Stephens beats the f*ck out of him after that.”
