No. 2-ranked UFC middleweight contender Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza scored yet another victory at last night’s (Feb. 11, 2017) UFC 208 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, submitting No. 13-ranked Tim Boetsch in the first round of their main event bout.
Having won 9 of his last 11 bouts, “Jacare” is undoubtedly deserving of a title shot, but 185-pound champion Michael Bisping is expected to next defend his title against No. 1-ranked Yoel Romero this spring.
With that being said, Souza doesn’t appear to be interested in waiting for a title shot:
“I want to fight the champion, but if that’s going to take a while, I prefer to take another fight because I don’t want to sit around, I wasn’t born to sit around,” Souza said during the UFC 208 post-fight conference. “So I’ll take another fight if it’s going to take too long to get a title shot.”
Souza has actually fought Romero before, dropping a controversial decision loss to the former Olympian at Dec. 2015’s UFC 194, a loss he wants to prove was a fluke:
“Yes, of course that’s an option, that’s a fight I want,” ‘Jacare’ said. “I’ve never lost a rematch, and with Romero, it’s not going to be any different. I’ll prove I didn’t lose to him, I lost to the judges.”
If not given a title shot, who would you like to see Souza take on next?

This is shaping up to be one of the funniest rivalries ever…
Although they are yet to be scheduled to fight, Michael Bisping and Yoel Romero are sharing an intense feud. Since ‘Soldier of God’ knocked out Chris Weidman at UFC 205, the beef has been cooking with current champion ‘The Count.’ Directly after taking out the former champion, Romero called out the in-attendance Englishman. After undergoing successful knee surgery, Bisping has been railing the Cuban wrestler about his USADA drama. Responding in kind, ‘SoG’ took things to a new level this week.
Setting up a GoFundMe page for Bipsing’s ‘retirement expenses,’ Romero showed he has some serious banter. Expecting to face ‘The Count’ on the May 13 UFC 211 card, ‘Soldier of God’ is getting his digs in early.
Radio Show Argument
During Bisping’s segment on ‘The Countdown,’ another heated exchange started on Twitter. Claiming it was not Romero in control of his social media, Bisping threw out some insults that spurred his rival to phone in. Obviously, this led to some comedy gold. Here’s the Twitter banter, followed by Romero and Bisping’s hilarious argument on Sirius XM:
@YoelRomeroMMA@MMAonSiriusXM hey Yoel, I'm not gonna argue with your social media intern. But if you wanna talk call in 8447967874 #fake
Keeping in line with the current stream of bowel movement news, Bisping points out a rather gross moment from Romero’s past. Under the new set of proposed rules, Romero would’ve actually suffered a TKO loss during this obscene moment. Garnering him the nickname ‘poopy pants’ from Bisping, Romero’s unfortunate mid-combat release is not forgotten.
This Rivalry Has It All
Once they finally meet in the octagon, there’s going to be a rich rivalry to settle between Bisping and Romero. Having already overcome the odds against Anderson Silva and Luke Rockhold, can the long serving Brit take out the explosive ‘Soldier of God?’
The feud between Michael Bisping and Yoel Romero has reached a fever pitch. It’s no secret that Romero and Bisping don’t get along. Middleweight submission master Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza is having trouble finding a top opponent, let alone the title shot that many fans and media members feel he has deserved for awhile now.
After his former Strikeforce foe Luke Rockhold pulled out of their scheduled main event at last November’s UFC Fight Night 101 in Australia, Souza had to settle got a bout versus Tim Boetsch – a tough opponent no doubt, but not one you would have expected to be announced for the No. 3-ranked Souza, who has only lost one of his last 10 bouts.
And even that was a highly controversial decision to top-ranked Yoel Romero at 2015’s UFC 194, and “Soldier of God” failed an out-of-competition drug test shortly after the bout, casting further doubt on the victory. But Jacare seems to be focused on another opponent, and that’s Rockhold, the man who stole his Strikeforce title in a razor-thin classic back in the fall of 2011.
During a recent interview with FOX Sports, Jacare said he wanted the fight and thinks Rockhold is running from him after pulling out of the bout yet still posting pictures of himself training online:
“I wanted to keep myself active. I was looking to fight Luke Rockhold but it seems like he got hurt and now I keep seeing him on social media training and doing things so now I think he’s running. So I’m happy that Tim Boetsch accepted the fight and it’s going to keep me ready and active and fighting so I’m pretty stoked that he took the fight. I’m good to go.”
Jacare elaborated on his feelings about Rockhold, noting that he first felt bad for his former opponent but after watching the AKA star campaign for a grappling match with Jon Jones, he has now changed his tune:
“Well at first, I felt kind of sad for him because he got hurt and couldn’t make the fight. I put myself in his shoes and I felt bad about it. But then after a while, watching him training and then especially when I saw he challenged Jon Jones for a grappling match, which we all know if you’re hurt you can’t do grappling, and he wants to fight him, it kind of changed my mind and what I think about him,
“Everything crossed my mind now that he’s running away from me and he’s afraid to fight me.”
Souza may be a bit miffed at the behavior of his prior scheduled opponent, and it’s even understandable why. He’s now involved in a much less high-profile bout, and all he can do to continue on what seems like a never-ending quest for a UFC middleweight fashion is finish Boetsch in impressive fashion like he’s supposed to do.
The risk certainly doesn’t equal the reward, but that’s become something of a familiar situation for Jacare.

It looks like top-ranked middleweight Yoel Romero is getting impatient about his about his rumored upcoming title shot against injured champion Michael Bisping.
As “The Count” heals up from recent knee surgery that has his return tentatively slated for May, “Soldier of God” has already kicked the trash talk up to a ‘groundbreaking’ kind of level by setting up a GoFundMe page for Bisping’s “medical expenses and retirement party” after the fight earlier this morning.
Romero has never been known for having a brutal kind of pre-fight banter such as this, but that doesn’t really matter at this point. With back-to-back wins over Jacare Souza and Chris Weidman, the Cuban Olympic wrestler is gunning for the championship fight he knows he deserves, and he won’t let anything stand in his way of a bout versus Bisping.
UFC President Dana White recently said he agrees, so it would seem all that preventing it from happening in Bisping’s gruesome surgery. Do you think he’ll need further treatment after fighting Romero as his vicious spoof charity fund suggests?
Since knocking out Chris Weidman at UFC 205, Yoel Romero has been tabbed for the next title fight. In typically explosive fashion, Romero put ‘The All-American’ away with a thunderous flying knee. Since knocking out Chris Weidman at UFC 205, Yoel Romero has been tabbed for the next title fight. In typically explosive fashion, Romero put ‘The All-American’ away with a thunderous flying knee. Then came the inevitable call-out of ‘The Count,’ who just so happened to be in attendance and flipped Romero off. That was three months ago, and still no official announcement of Romero’s title fight. Having undergone surgery, Bisping’s recovery has likely been the biggest delay of them all, but not according to ‘Soldier of God.’
Appearing on The MMA Hour last night, Romero claims even Bisping’s wife and kids know the champ is avoiding him. The former Olympian also says he believes UFC 211 on May 13 will be the date of the title fight. Recently, Stipe Miocic vs. Junior dos Santos 2 was confirmed for UFC 211.
Romero Has Faith
Although he says Bisping is avoiding him, Romero also has faith in the words of his employers. Here’s what ‘SoG’ told Ariel Helwani through his translator:
“Everybody in the whole world, even his wife and kids know (Bisping) is avoiding me. (I believe) we will fight on May 13 in Dallas. This is what my employers have told me. Right now, who is the best fighter at 185 pounds? Its Yoel Romero. If someone has a belt, man, they need to defend it. Who has the belt right now? Michael Bisping, and I’m going to take it from him.”
“I sleep like a lion full of confidence. God is my strength, I sleep very easy. The only ace up his sleeve is that USADA stuff, so that’s all he can talk about. Have you seen the video where I KO Chris? Then they put a caption on Bisping’s face? Its not fear, its terror on his face. At that moment, he did not want to be the 185-pound champion in the UFC. He thought ‘what the heck am I doing here? Look what’s coming my way now, why did I talk so much crap about this man?’ He talked a bunch of sh*t about me, and vengeance is coming your way. God will bring his vengeance, that’s what he told the people of Israel.”
I Think About Him Everyday
“I don’t really put too much importance on anything he says, but I do think about him everyday. Not worrying, but I think about him everyday. He doubts himself, he knows deep down, that it’s over. He talked way too much crap, junk about me, without even knowing. It was a supplement that came out tainted. He has no idea how hard I train, how much I suffer to train like I do. This man has to pay.”
Looks like this is a very personal fight for Romero. Will it be the explosive power of ‘Soldier of God,’ or the relentless pace of ‘The Count’ that wins the day?
