With news arriving this morning that former UFC champion Jon Jones had been released from jail following a plea deal where he admitted to a plea deal and received anger management and driver management courses in addition to 60 hours extra community service, UFC president Dana White has finally spoken up on the subject.

In an interview with TMZ Sports, White described Jones’ mindset throughout his early days as a “nice guy” champion, saying that it just wasn’t him and we’re no getting the byproduct of that:

“I don’t think Jon Jones is ever going to be the Jon Jones that people expect him to be,” White said. “Jon is gonna do Jon. I think that Jon tried so hard to play the good guy for so long, it drove him crazy. And Jon is just gonna be Jon now.”

Indeed Jon is gonna ‘do Jon,’ as his lengthy public arrest record over the past year would indicate. Jones was ticketed for five misdemeanor citations including drag racing in Albuquerque last week, offense not stringent enough to land in jail had he not already been on probation for hitting a 25-year-old pregnant woman last April and running the scene only to return to reportedly grab a stack of cash.

A prior violation of his probation was also overlooked in January when he was caught going 75 miles per hour in a 35 mile-per-hour zone and failed to produce his driver’s license, registration, or insurance, but it was used as a warning when Jones agreed to more community service and to not get any further citations.

But obviously he did, and when he failed to inform his probation officer of the police contact, he was jailed in the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center for the past two days. That may have been at least in part due to the fact that he got into a war of words with the policeman where he called the officer a “f****** liar” and a “pig” (via TMZ):

And while Jones may have acted a bit rash by calling the traffic officer names, it also seemed that the policeman wasn’t nearly as professional as he could have been, something that will go on trial when Jones reportedly fights the traffic citations in court.

White, however, had one hilariously simple (and obvious) solution for Jones.

Claudia Gadelha is not worried about Joanna Jedrzejczyk’s accusations as she revealed she actually asked USADA to be tested before their rematch at the TUF 23 Finale.

Claudia Gadelha is not worried at all about Joanna Jedrzejczyk’s accusations of performance enhancing drugs use. In fact, as Gadelha told Combate, she actually asked the USADA to be tested, because she knows she is not taking anything.

“I have always been tested and never got caught. I’m certain I’m clean. The time I spent in Las Vegas (shooting The Ultimate Fighter 23), I kept asking the USADA people to test me. I really want to be tested.”

In her last outing, Gadelha  (13-1)defeated Jessica Aguilar by unanimous decision at UFC 190. Before that, she lost a close split decision to the Jedrzejczyk in December 2014. Jedrzejczyk (11-0), in the meantime, has remained undefeated since their first encounter,  with wins over the likes of Carla Esparza, Jessica Penne and Valerie Letorneau in 2015.

The pair will now rematch in the main event of the TUF 23 Finale, that goes down on July 8, in Las Vegas.

It’s been a crazy few months to start 2016 for mixed martial arts (MMA).

Indeed, fight fans have already seen a bevy of ridiculous upsets, including Miesha Tate’s last-minute finish of Holly Holm (watch it), Nate Diaz’s beatdown of Conor McGregor (watch it), and the fall of promising up-and-comer, Sage Northcutt.

So crazy, in fact, that the fine lads and lasses over at OddsShark.com went to the trouble of investigating these bookie-breakers by event, revealing the distribution of underdog victories (40 upsets in 98 matches) in the eight UFC events we’ve been treated to thus far in 2016.

Check it out:

Dad bod FTW!

At both UFC Fight Night 81 and UFC 196, the underdogs actually won more than the favorites, while they went 50/50 at UFC Fight Night 82. Interestingly, four of these eight upsets came via stoppage, including one of the year’s best knockouts in Diego Rivas’ flying knee finish of Noad Lahat.

We’ve certainly seen the damage these kinds of results can do over at the MMAmania.com betting guide (GULP). It will certainly be interesting to see if this volatility remains in play as we head into the second quarter of the year.

Former UFC champ Jon Jones went before New Mexico judge Michael Martinez today in a Bernalillo County, New Mexico courtroom. Watch the video above to see how it went.

Martinez revoked Jones’ probation for hit-and-run and issued a new probation ruled that Jones must complete a driver improvement course and he enrolls in and completes an anger management counseling course but did not require Jones to submit to a curfew. Jones will have to contact his probation officer for permission to drive.

Martinez warned Jones that another court appearance “won’t end well” for him.

Jones is free to fight Daniel Cormier for the UFC LHW belt at UFC 197 on April 23 in Las Vegas.

Jones held the title until the organization stripped him following his conviction for hit and run in an incident early last year. Jones previously defeated Cormier at UFC 182.

Cormier took the vacated title by beating Anthony “Rumble” Johnson.

The MMA world was given a refreshing bit of news when it was revealed earlier this week that Invicta FC featherweight champion Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Justino would finally be making her UFC debut against Leslie Smith at May 14’s UFC 198 from her homeland of Curitiba, Brazil.

While Smith is most certainly a gritty and talented fighter and also deserves respect for taking the 140-pound catchweight fight, most hoped ‘Cyborg’ would make her debut against the top fighters of the UFC women’s bantamweight division. Obviously Justino has a long-standing feud Ronda Rousey, and bouts with champion Miesha Tate or top contenders Holly Holm and Cat Zingano are very enticing prospects.

However, UFC President Dana White spoke up to declare that no one other than Smith wanted the fight, and apparently Holm, who recently lost the title to Miesha Tate at March 5’s UFC 196, is one that did not. In a recent appearance at a news conference transcribed by The Albuquerque Journal, Holm touched on her desires for her next fight, which not surprisingly include rematches with Tate or Rousey:

“This one’s definitely a little more out of my hands. (In boxing), I knew that Lenny would give me the opportunity as long as I wanted it. This is a whole different situation.

“I really want that rematch, but I’m not the one with the title now. I’m not the one with the belt. So I have to be patient and wait for that opportunity to come.”

‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ seems to know the bargaining chips are a bit out of her hands after Tate submitted her in the fifth round of their title bout, and she believes she can’t be too picky as a result:

“Right now, what’s on my heart is the rematch,” she said. “(But) I don’t necessarily want to be too picky, either. I’m the one coming off a loss. I can’t expect to have everything handed to me, so we’ll see what happens.”

Holm’s longtime manager Lenny Fresquez also spoke up on the subject, adding that the UFC will hopefully give them a chance at Tate or Rousey when her next fight is booked:

“Miesha was in Australia on vacation, so they were supposed to get with her this week,” Fresquez said. “Hopefully, in the next couple of weeks we’ll know. But whether it’s Miesha or Ronda, those are the fights we’re interested in.”

As for the Cyborg fight, Fresquez, whom White infamously said was ‘not that smart’ in a tirade post-UFC 196, said that Holm’s camp is simply not interested in fighting ‘Cyborg’ right now:

“(Fighting Rousey or Tate) is pretty much what Holly wants to do,” Fresquez said. “If they have something else, it’s my job to present it to her. I’ve made her wishes known to them.

“We were not interested in that right now,” Fresquez said. “(Holm) just wants to fight Miesha.”
