Though he doesn’t have the “traditional” boxing style most are accustomed to, UFC lightweight Nate Diaz knows what to do with his hands once the cage door slams shut.
In fact, the Stockton slugger can more than hold his own against world class boxers, including Andre Ward, the current super middleweight champion who is undefeated at 28-0. As Ward told Fight Hype, when he and Nate — as well as older brother Nick — spar, it isn’t as one-sided as you would think.
Plus, he says he never had any doubt Diaz could take out Conor McGregor, though the short notice had him a bit on edge.
“I wasn’t shocked…only thing I was concerned about was 10 or 11-day notice…I’ve sparred with Nick and Nate…they both have hands; they both can fight…I’m a world-class fighter and they do more than hold their own…Nate and Nick don’t fear anything and I respect that, man.”
Diaz defeated “Notorious” via second-round submission at UFC 196 in what proved to be one of the biggest upsets in recent memory (see it again here).
Of course, the finishing move was all set up thanks to Nate’s accurate and constant striking, which turned the tide in his favor in the second frame after the Irishman had his way with Diaz early on.

At this point, it’s not so much the crime as the criminal. “Mayhem” may not have committed the grandest offense in the world to get arrested again, but he was already out on bail when he did it.
Looks like Jason “Mayhem” Miller won’t make that Venator FC comeback bout after all. The former UFC fighter, TUF coach, Strikeforce and Dream star is back on the wrong side of the law after a reported arrest on Tuesday, March 15th. TMZ first carried the news that Miller had been taken into custody for allegedly vandalizing a tattoo parlor. You can see the official booking information from the Orange County Central Jail, below (h/t @SoozieCuzie):
You’ll note the $1,000,000.00 number where a normal, less eye popping “Bail Amount” would normally be. Why so high? Because TMZ also reported that Miller was already out on bail most likely stemming from his DUI arrest back in February. You know, the one that ended up with Venator FC president Frank Merenda writing a press release stating that he finds it “absolutely disgusting the some press rage against a person who is working hard in the gym to get back to doing what he loves: Fighting in the cage.”
Miller’s first hearing over his latest arrest is set for Wednesday, March 16th. The only question now is, will Venator still look for a way to get him to Italy by May 21st?

But we don’t take anything on face value, so we packed up our bags and headed to Vancouver to see for ourselves. That included a chat with former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey (more on that here).
“By listening to fans, sharpening our fundamentals, focusing on areas of innovation in gameplay, and adding massive depth to modes, we believe we’ve taken the franchise and MMA games to the next level with this one,” said Creative Director Brian Hayes. “We’re excited that it’s finally time to ask fans to stare back at their opponent, bite down on their mouth piece, come out swinging and finish the fight.”
Game on.
There’s no better way to do it than by picking up a controller and slugging it out, which is why MMAmania.com correspondent Phoenix Carnevale fired up the featherweight title bout between Conor McGregor and top contender Frankie Edgar.

If you’re looking for some of the very best bone-crushing finishes out there, look no further than the illustrious UFC heavyweight division.
With the title set to be defended this upcoming May at UFC 198, we thought it’d be a perfect time to look at the 10 best heavyweight knockouts in UFC history.

UFC analyst Joe Rogan believes that when it comes down to which Conor McGregor title fight is easier to sell, Frankie Edgar is the better option over a Jose Aldo rematch.
Since Conor McGregor’s spectacular loss to Nate Diaz at UFC 196, people have wondered what his next step will be. The outspoken Irishman already hinted at a return to 145 pounds where he has yet to defend his world championship belt. While many feel that a rematch against Jose Aldo would be a viable option, including his coach John Kavanagh, UFC commentator Joe Rogan would rather like to see a fresh matchup against former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, who has been campaigning for a title shot for months now.
“Frankie Edgar is a way easier sell,” Rogan said Tuesday on his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience. “Maybe if Aldo comes back and wins in spectacular fashion, like if he and Cub Swanson have a rematch. Because Swanson-Aldo went the same way Aldo and McGregor went. Aldo hits him with a flying knee two seconds into the fight cracks him. Aldo has to win again. You could sell [Aldo-McGregor II], but you wouldn’t sell it for as much as if Aldo won.
“When Manny Pacquiao got knocked dead the Floyd Mayweather fight was off. But then he beats Chris Algieri, looks like a f**king demon again and you go, ‘OK, we can see it again’ and they sold the fight. But if they tried to go right from the Juan Manuel Marquez knockout right into the Floyd Mayweather fight? They would have lost a s**tload of money. A fighter has to win.”
Frankie Edgar is unbeaten in the UFC since his featherweight debut loss versus Aldo in February 2013, including a dominant knockout victory over Chad Mendes in his last performance last December.
“Frankie Edgar is a 48-hour storm,” said Rogan. “You better have everything strapped down. He’s not going to get tired and he’s going to keep coming at you. He can wrestle his ass off. His footwork is sensational. I think Conor can knock out anybody, but you know what? So can Cub Swanson and he didn’t connect on Frankie. Frankie just wolverine’d him.
“Look at the Chad Mendes fight. Conor had a knee injury coming into it but Chad took him down at will. When Frankie gets you tired… What he did to Cub Swanson was incredible. Frankie’s not a huge draw but it’s a big fight.”
There is no information as of right now when or against whom McGregor will fight next. A fight at UFC 200 in July sounds like a likely scenario. The question remains, if it will be against Aldo or Edgar.
As announced earlier this week, two title matches will be headlining WSOF 30 on April 2nd, as David Branch puts his WSOF Middleweight title on the line against Clifford Starks in the main event, while Jon Fitch and Joao Zeferino will battle it out for the vacant WSOF Welterweight title.
Rousimar Palhares, the former WSOF Welterweight Champion who was stripped of his title and suspended for two years by the Nevada State Athletic Commission following the controversy stemming from his fight with Jake Shields in late August, spoke with MMAFighting.com recently about the Fitch-Zeferino bout being contested for the title he never lost in the cage.
“I will root for Jon Fitch, but everybody knows I’m the real champion. The whole world knows that. That’s what matters to me. I will try to fix the mistakes I might have done. I will fix that, but I’m the real champion.
“I won the title and defended it. I’m the champion no matter what. I have the belt here at home. I’m the champion. They will crown a new champion, but I’m the real champion and everybody knows that.”
According to Palhares, who recently experienced the birth of his first son, Christian, back in February, being a father has already made him a better man and he will prove he has changed when he does eventually make his competitive MMA return.
“It made me become a better person right away. When he was born, I felt I’m a better person already. I started thinking what I did wrong, learned with my mistakes. I will come back better than everyone imagines.
“I will do everything I can to show I have changed, that I’m not the same guy, and everything will be alright. After a storm comes a calm.”
