Brian Ortega fought valiantly against Alexander Volkanovski in the main event of UFC 266, but it came at a cost after he suffered a nasty eye injury during one of the greatest title fights in UFC history.

Ortega and Volkanovski fought in a five-round war at UFC 266, with Volkanovski earning the unanimous decision win. Despite the loss, Ortega earned the respect of MMA fans around the sport for his grit and determination, having almost submitted Volkanovski on multiple occasions during the fight.

As first reported by mixedmartialarts.com and later confirmed by MMA Fighting, Ortega will be sidelined until at least March 25th with a right orbital blowout fracture.

Ortega could realistically be back sooner if he can get approval and clearance from an ophthalmologist as he recovers from the injury. Volkanovski also will serve a brief medical suspension with no contact until at least Oct. 17th.

Ortega wasn’t the only UFC 266 standout who will miss some time due to injuries suffered during the eventful card. Dan Hooker, Marlon Moraes, and Jairzinho Rozenstruik also suffered injuries that may keep them sidelined until at least March as well.

Ortega put Volkanovski in deep water during the bout and nearly walked away with the featherweight title. He had his way with the champion in the early rounds before Volkanovski was able to transition out of a few submission attempts to land some brutal ground-and-pound, which more than likely caused Ortega’s injury.

Despite returning to the UFC octagon after a six-year layoff, Nick Diaz suffered from minor injuries and will only be sidelined until at least Nov. 10. He’s talked about his intentions to return to fighting and that he enjoyed being back competing in front of the UFC faithful.

As for Ortega, there’s no telling what could be next for his featherweight career. He could work back to the title shot by taking on another rising challenger such as Giga Chikadze or Calvin Kattar or make a move up to lightweight at a more comfortable weight class.

What do you think should be next for Brian Ortega?

Tyron Woodley got the ‘I love Jake Paul’ tattoo that was part of the stakes for losing their PPV boxing match. And it sounds like he’s captured Paul’s heart in the process.

Tyron Woodley went out and did it. He held up his part of the bet and got the ‘I Love Jake Paul’ tattoo that honor required, following his loss to the former Disney actor and YouTube star in their boxing bout last August.

Whether or not that will be the magic move to get him back into position for a potential rematch, or not, remains to be seen. But, at the very least, he definitely got Paul’s attention. The 24-year-old delivered a video message to Woodley on YouTube (of course), to tell the former UFC welterweight champion just what he thought about the ‘Chosen One’’s new ink.

“No way did a grown ass man just get a tattoo that says I love Jake Paul!” Paul proclaimed, through a fit of laughter. “This is my official response to Tyron Woodley getting the tattoo.”

Paul then spit out a small, folded piece of paper that he’d been keeping stuffed in his cheek. After a few moments of rustling and mugging for the camera, he held up a small hand-written note, with “I LOVE YOU TOO” scrawled across it.

But, that wasn’t the end of the message. Just before cutting off the feed, Paul wrapped up his video with a more personal request for his former foe, cooing “Can I grab those cheeks now Papi?” into the mic.

Where all this ends for Woodley remains to be seen. Obviously, he’s hoping to meet Paul back inside the ring, for another few rounds of fisticuffs. But, it sounds like Paul may have a more intimate setting for their next rendezvous in mind.

UFC 263: Israel Adesanya v Vettori 2 Jon Jones

Israel Adesanya weighs in on Jon Jones’ recent arrest and charges.

Israel Adesanya does not have much faith in Jon Jones’ ability to rehabilitate.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya took to Twitter on Tuesday and addressed Jones’ recent arrest (see the mugshot here). Jones — a former UFC Light Heavyweight champion and arguably the greatest mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter in history — was arrested in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sept. 24. He was charged with misdemeanor battery domestic violence, and injuring and tampering with a vehicle.

“I’m sure y’all will give him ‘one more chance’ lol,” Adesanya tweeted on Tuesday. “I swear I said he’s gonna f—k up again, he can’t help it. Now here we are. I’ve made mistakes in my time, I learn from them. I don’t think this is the first time this has happened in his house.”

New details from the Jones’ police report indicate that his fiancee, Jessie Moses, was found at Caesars Palace with blood “around her lips, chin and all over her sweatshirt” along with a swollen lower lip and “seemed scared to even talk about” Jones.

Adesanya and Jones’ personal feud dates back years. Fans once had hoped for a champion vs. champion clash between Adesanya and Jones.

“That’d be sick, Nick (vs.) Perry would be sick.”

Nick Diaz put up a terrific fight against Robbie Lawler at UFC 266 this past weekend, but where does the Californian go from here?

‘Suga’ Sean O’Malley thinks he should return to the octagon against Mike Perry (who is currently without an opponent) and believes that the former Strikeforce welterweight champion should continue fighting despite many pundits calling for him to retire.

“That was one the sickest fights ever,” O’Malley said of Diaz vs. Lawler 2 on the TimboSugarShow podcast (h/t SportsKeeda). “Just two f***ing dogs… There’s just not a lot of guys that bring that f***ing level of hype dude.”

“Kamaru (Usman)? Nick versus even Jorge (Masvidal)? Oh, Nick vs. Mike Perry could be sick,” O’Malley said. “Nick might dog him. Just outbox him. That’d be sick, Nick (vs.) Perry would be sick.”

Diaz did put on a great show considering his six-year layoff but he did ultimately lose the fight via TKO. The Stockton local refused to get back to his feet after being dropped by a check right hook in the third round.

Diaz said in his post-fight interview with ‘DC’ that he knew he had it coming and hinted that he was unprepared heading into the fight. His former teammate Jake Shields claims the UFC veteran was ‘pressured’ into the fight by ‘snakes’ that picked money over his health.

Win, lose or draw, Diaz remains one of the most popular fighters in the world and is considered by many to be a true legend of the sport.

Bellator 267 is invading London, England, this Friday, and Michael Page intends to outstrike Douglas Lima and exact revenge after being TKO’d in 2019.

The two welterweights are set to rematch in the SSE Arena in London, England. This Friday (October 1, 2021), Michael “Venom” Page (MVP) will have the opportunity to avenge his one and only loss inside the Bellator cage.

Michael Page was undefeated when the two locked horns for the first time. Though he fought with a very determined champion in their initial encounter. In typical fashion, MVP bounced around, with his hands at his waist, and attempted to blitzkrieg his way into the pocket. Lima, meanwhile, stood patiently and began to acclimate to Page’s striking.

Lima met MVP’s offense with wrestling and engaged in clinch work to get “Venom” to the mat early. In a wild sequence taking place in round two, Lima kicked MVP’s legs out from under him, and as he fell to the ground, the Brazilian delivered a crushing right hand to secure the results of their first fight.

Ahead of his second fight with the former champ, Page spoke with MMA Junkie and described the aggressive game plan he is taking with him to Bellator 267.

“I think it’s a very obvious one,” Page said. “His wrestling ability is unbelievable, great. Beautiful style. He’s actually got a really nice flow with his stand-up style. I just personally don’t find him that dangerous standing, which means I can be a little bit more reckless in terms of my positioning, which means I can get a lot more power in terms of my strikes.

“But he’s a person who’s always going to try to hold me down. I’m definitely going to be way more active on my back than Lima was in his last fight, give him a bit more to deal with and be worried about. Page said. But then, after that, I’m going to find my shot. I’m going to find my knee, I’m going to find a kick, I’m going to find a kick, I’m going to find something that’s going to put him on his ass.”

With their second bout popping off in MVP’s home turf, it appears Lima will be fighting more than just Page on Friday night. Looking to right the wrongs of his previous fight with the former 170-pound titleholder, Page has his eyes on the champion Yaroslav Amosov should he emerge from Bellator 267 with an emphatic victory.

Do you think Page will beat Lima in the rematch?

Anderson Silva

Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva is a longtime friend of Jon Jones, but feels sad for Jones’ latest run-in with the law this past weekend in Las Vegas.

Jones was arrested by Las Vegas Police on charges of misdemeanor battery domestic violence and vehicle tampering charges. He allegedly assaulted his fiancee, Jessie Moses at the Caesars Palace hotel in Las Vegas just hours after his UFC Hall of Fame induction.

Silva has fully transitioned from MMA to boxing but is still widely regarded as one of the biggest names in the sport, and had a lot to say about Jones’ latest incident.

“I don’t know what happened with Jon Jones but I feel sad,” Silva said during a recent appearance on The MMA Hour. “Because I feel Jon Jones is my little brother. I [talk] with my manager all the time — [self]-sabotage. That’s come to make something bad in your [own] life. Jon Jones doesn’t need that.”

“He’s an amazing person. I feel sad. It’s tough for me to be talking about Jon Jones.”

Silva left the UFC after a long losing streak in the middleweight division but has found new-found success as a boxer after his vicious knockout over Tito Ortiz and split-decision over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Silva and Jones have been linked for many years after the two of them were two of the biggest names in the UFC as the middleweight and light heavyweight champions.

But it’s been a while since we’ve seen Jones fight in the octagon. He’s anticipating a move to heavyweight sometime next year but this latest incident could delay those plans. Jones has a court date on Oct. 26 and we could learn more about his fate at that time.

It’s clear that Silva has mixed feelings about Jones, but feels bad that he continues to self-sabotage in the midst of his success.
