Remember when Randy Couture came out of retirement and dominated Tim Sylvia? How about when Quinton Jackson shocked the world by knocking out Chuck Liddell in the first round? Or, when Georges St-Pierre captured his first welterweight championship by beating Matt Hughes in a rematch?

All of MMA‘s greatest fighters have career defining moments; instances that encapsulate them as a fighter, or that they will always be most remembered for.

These moments are inherently important. Some of them are significant solely because they’ll help us to always remember the greats of the sport, but many of them have actually helped to shape the sport of mixed martial arts and bring it into the mainstream.

Today we take a walk down memory lane, examining the 75 greatest fighters in MMA history and the moments that defined their careers…

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is a rapidly expanding business and they are always looking for ways to bring in fans and, subsequently, make some more cash.

During live events, the UFC makes a point of giving celebrities in attendance a few seconds on air and fans are typically pleased to see that their favorite celebrities have the same love for mixed martial arts that they, themselves, harbor.

Running with that general concept, it seems to me that the UFC could probably build a great deal of hype around their events by bringing in some celebrities as guest octagon girls.

It would get people tuning in just to see their favorite celebs in a bikini and these new viewers could potentially become life-long fans of the sport, if they end up enjoying the event as a whole.

I recognize that it might be difficult to get celebrities interested in doing this—especially for not a lot of money—but it seems that the UFC is all about making the impossible happen these days.

Obviously, there are countless famous ladies we’d love to see strutting their stuff around the outside of the Octagon, but here’s a sampling of some celebs it would be great to see as guest Octagon gals…

Caution: If you don’t like to look at pretty ladies who aren’t wearing a whole lot of clothing, this is the end of the road for you.

Chris Lytle and Dan Hardy are set to face of this Sunday at UFC on Versus 5: Hardy vs. Lytle in what is a make-or-break fight for both competitors.

Hardy is riding a three-fight losing streak and runs the risk of being cut from the promotion if he loses this fight. Considering that Dan fought for the welterweight championship just a little more than year ago, it is surprising to see him in such a dire position.

Lytle’s position is a little better than Dan’s right now, but this is still a very important fight for him. With three wins in his last four fights, he probably won’t get cut if he loses. That said, Chris is 36 years old and if he wants to make a run for the welterweight strap, he has to do it now. He was close to getting a title shortly after beating Matt Serra back at UFC 119, but a loss to Brian Ebersole after that stopped his momentum.

A win over Hardy would definitely get Lytle back on the right track.

Both of these guys need the win, but only one can have it.

Who’s going to walk away the victor?

Let’s take a look…

According to FightersOnly.com a movie about current UFC featherweight champion Jose Also is currently in the works.

The Director, Afont Poyart, is currently making some final alterations to the script before they commence filming. The film is expected to be released sometime in 2013.

When asked about the film, Jose Aldo  told UOL Esporte:

It’s a dream, right? My life to turn into a movie, a story…I guess those who don’t know either me or my story, will know a little more through this film that we will make. It will tell a lot of stories that previously are known only to close friends.”

The lead actor has yet to be revealed, but Aldo has been thinking about it and said he would like actor Malvino Salvador to take on the role, telling UOL Esporte:

“I watch so many soap operas and I am a big fan of him. He’s a guy who gives me a good energy. For me, it would be Malvino Salvador.”

Some time ago, it was also announced that a movie about UFC light heavyweight contender Matt Hamill was in the works.

Many mixed martial artists live remarkable and interesting lives before entering the sport, so it’s likely that movies being made about fighter’s lives will be a continuing trend as the sport continues to grow.

Dominick Cruz was successful in defending his bantamweight for the third consecutive time at UFC 132, defeating Urijah Faber by unanimous decision.

Throughout the fight, Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan talked about how hard it is to train for Dominick Cruz because of his unusual striking.

Their assessment proved to be true, as Urijah looked relatively lost striking with Dominick and was outclassed for much of the fight.

This gives Dominick a huge advantage over the rest of his weight class because he can bring in people to mimic his opponents styles, but his opponents can’t because no one fights quite like he does.

Let’s take a look at Dominick and some other UFC fighters who are very difficult to train for…

Chris “The Crippler” Leben has just spoiled Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva’s return to the Octagon in a big way.

The Pride legend had been out of action for over a year going into UFC 132 and fans were ecstatic to see him make his return to the UFC.

The fans were particularly excited because Silva had been matched up with Chris “The Crippler” Leben.

Both fighters are known primarily as brawlers and fans adore them for their reckless fighting style.

Silva vs. Leben was being referred to by many as a potential fight of the year contender; fireworks seemed inevitable.

The fireworks that everyone was expecting did happen, just not for as long as people might have liked.

Wanderlei was the first fighter to open up, unleashing a brutal combination on Leben.

However, in throwing that combination Silva left himself wide open and The Crippler took advantage quickly, catching Wanderlei with a big left hook and then a string of left uppercuts that dropped The Axe Murderer.

Once Silva dropped, Chris unloaded with devastating right hands until the fight was stopped.

This was a much needed win for Leben, who was coming off of a brutal knockout loss to Brian Stann.

The victory over Wanderlei should definitely put The Crippler back in the mix in the middleweight division.

As for Wanderlei, this loss was a huge set back and it may have been one of the last times we’re going to see him competing in mixed martial arts.

The Axe Murderer has been in many wars in his storied career and taken a lot of punishment over the years. It seems like that punishment is starting to take it’s toll on Wanderlei.

I’m sure Chris Leben would have liked to give the fans a bit more of a show, but he’s got to be happy to have won the fight; the victory over Wanderlei Silva was the biggest of Leben’s career.
