Cung Le is widely recognized as a pure martial artist that has transitioned his game to MMA. He’s a blue belt in jiu-jistu and a black belt in Taekwondo.
Cung Le has competed in quite a few different martial arts competitions to hone his skills. He competed in kickboxing tournaments, as well as karate and wushu competitions.
His taekwondo striking base have given us highlight reel knockouts and the idea that he is a pure martial artist.
Obviously, the idea of a pure martial artist is based on opinion, so feel free to offer yours. Let’s take a look at few that come to mind…

Now that we’re in the middle of the excitement of UFC on Fox 1, the UFC’s network debut and the anticipation of UFC 139, we have a chance to look back.
Mike Goldberg is our subject this time. Goldberg has been a voice that signified the UFC for quite some time and he is well respected by fighters and by fight fans. However, there have been a few bumps and bruises along the way.
Let’s take some time to point at his mistakes and laugh at him…

Cain Velasquez fell to Junior dos Santos in his first title defense of his UFC heavyweight championship reign, but he will definitely come back stronger than he appeared in this fight.
Velasquez entered this fight with a few hurdles in front of him besides the overhand right of Junior dos Santos. Velasquez had a knee injury that hindered him during training (but then again, so did JDS). He also had shoulder surgery that he may or may not have been 100 percent recovered from during his training. These aren’t excuses, just the facts. With those facts, expect a healthier Velasquez in his next fight.
In his next fight, Velasquez will also be more relaxed and any ring rust that he may have had will have surely worn off by that time. His next fight won’t be a high-profile network television debut, so the pressure won’t be on as much. He’ll be able to get back to what he does best—beat people up in the octagon.
Fighters often say they learn more in a loss than they do in a win. If this is true, this is a great teaching point for the young superstar heavyweight. Stick to the game plan. For some reason, Velasquez thought he could stand and trade with the superior striker JDS. He was sadly mistaken and loss his belt because of this. You can rest assured that Velasquez won’t make that mistake ever again.
Velasquez will be back in the title mix; that’s a definite. He’s too talented not to be. How he will treat his second ascent is yet to be determined.

Today was a sad day in the fight world. We lost one of the all-time great fighters in the history of boxing, Smokin’ Joe Frazier.
The former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world that bested the consensus greatest boxer, Muhammad Ali, in the Fight of the Century played the villain to Ali’s hero but endeared himself to fight fans as his career wore on and eventually ended.
Many people forget how talented Frazier was, and his fights with Ali as well as with George Foreman go down as some of the most epic fights in the history of the sport.
With boxing being a cornerstone of a well-rounded fighter, let’s take a look at what mixed martial artists take a page out of Smokin’ Joe’s fight book.
I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t really see Nick Diaz as an honest to goodness title contender. Before you go crazy, let me explain. In most cases, we determine a title contender by who they beat, their fight resume. That’s al…
I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t really see Nick Diaz as an honest to goodness title contender. Before you go crazy, let me explain.
In most cases, we determine a title contender by who they beat, their fight resume. That’s all we can go on to reasonably say if a fighter is of the caliber to take on a UFC champion. Well, Diaz‘s fighting resume isn’t really something that jumps off the page at you.
Sure, there’s no denying that a win streak in MMA is always very impressive. In MMA, even the best of fighters can be knocked out on their best day (see Matt Serra’s knockout victory over Georges St. PIerre at UFC 69). A win streak of any kind is always to be respected. However, let’s look at the other side of it.
The UFC is home of the best fighters in the world, and if we’re being real, a win streak in the UFC is respected 10 times more than a win streak that includes a fight in Dream and Elite XC. When Jake Sheilds came over to the organization he had a ridiculous win streak and then proceeded to get smashed by GSP and Jake Ellenberger.
We all know that the UFC is the pinnacle of the sport, so any success outside of it is like being the MVP of the Canadian Football League. It’s cute, but it’s not going to get you the noteriety a fighter craves.
I’ve said all of that to say this: Nick Diaz‘s win over UFC legend and future hall of famer BJ Penn answered a lot of questions. It says that he is ready for the best competition in the world, and it also says that his streak isn’t a fluke.
Sure he beat an old, unconditioned BJ Penn, but you can only fight the person that comes into the cage. None of that is Diaz‘s concern or his fault. Let’s see how he does against an angry Georges St. Pierre.
Unless you have been living under a rock, you know GSP will not be defending his belt against Carlos Condit at UFC 137…but all is not lost. There are still some explosive, meaningful, and most important entertaining fights in Las Vegas this Satu…
Unless you have been living under a rock, you know GSP will not be defending his belt against Carlos Condit at UFC 137…but all is not lost.
There are still some explosive, meaningful, and most important entertaining fights in Las Vegas this Saturday night. You may even see GSP hobble into the arena to make an appearance and say, “I am not impressed by your performance.”
BJ Penn will be headlining against the enigmatic Nick Diaz in a possible number one contender fight. It’s definitely not set in stone, but the winner could go on to challenge the winner of the Condit/GSP fight, when it happens of course.
Also, Matt “Meathead” Mitrione will look to maintain his perfect record against the dangerous comeback knockout heavyweight gatekeeper in Cheick Kongo. This will be a power punching clash that will most likely not go to the judges cards.
Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, a fan favorite, will try to continue his surprising run toward a title shot when he takes on the crafty Dennis Siver. This fight will shake up things in the lightweight division. (Watch out for that spinning back kick, Cowboy)
And for all you that love before and after pictures, Roy Nelson (who supposedly got in leaner shape for this fight) looks to put another legend out to pasture when he meets the man simply known as “Cro Cop.”
