Nick Diaz beat former UFC champion BJ Penn at UFC 137, and his next fight will be against Georges St-Pierre for the UFC welterweight title. Diaz called out GSP after the fight—saying that GSP didn’t have an injury and is scared to fight. St.Pierre vs Diaz will be a huge fight.

I think that this fight will be one of the biggest fights of the year, and it has all the makings of a massive pay-per-view.

Dennis Siver vs. Donald Cerrone: Will Winner Fight for the Lightweight Title?

This Saturday at UFC 137, Donald Cerrone will be fighting fellow lightweight contender Dennie Siver. Donald Cerrone stepped in for Sam Stout, but he’s far from a replacement fighter. Cerrone has won his last five fights in a row, and Siver has four in a row.

Both guys are at the top of the division, and have entertaining styles that would make for great title fights.

Siver is an extremely powerful kickboxer with good takedown defense. His kicks are lethal, and he carves up opponents from the legs up. Siver would make a very interesting matchup with Frankie Edgar.

Cerrone is one of my favorite fighters, and one of the most exciting in the UFC. Cerrone came over from the WEC, fighting for the belt three times. He’ still a young fighter, and has all of the skills it takes to be a champion.

Cerrone has a good standup background, using kicks, knees, elbows and punches. “The Cowboy” also has great jiu-jitsu, and is one of the most exciting fighters on the ground in his guard.

This fight has all of the makings of a fight of the night. Both guys are more than willing to stand and bang for the full three rounds. Cerrone has more of a ground fighting background, but usually only uses it when he gets taken down.

I bet this fight will be a war, and by far one of the best of the year. This is a tough match for both fighters, and they deserve a lot of credit for taking it.

I think that the winner of this fight deserves a title shot against Frankie Edgar for the UFC lightweight title. Ben Henderson is fighting Clay Guida on the UFC on Fox card. The winner of that will likely also be handed a title shot, so it will be interesting to see which fighter gets it first.

It might take a publicity stunt to do it, but whoever wins this fight does deserve a chance at UFC gold. The lightweight division is stacked, and is one of the best in all of MMA.

Regardless of who gets the next UFC title shot, it will be a barn-burner. Frankie Edgar will be in for a slug-fest with whoever he fights next.

UFC 141 Fight Card: Can Brock Lesnar Deal with Alistair Overeem’s Striking?

UFC 141 features one of the biggest super-fights in the sport of MMA. The UFC just acquired Strikeforce MMA, and with it comes their massive heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem. The UFC wasted no time in pitting their biggest fighter, Brock Lesnar, against him in what will be a huge showdown for No. 1 contender status.

With seven victories in a row, Overeem’s on fire. He’s finished six of those last seven fights, half with submissions, and half with knockouts. UFC fans are in for a treat, because “The Demolition Man” is the best heavyweight fighter that wasn’t in the UFC.

Brock Lesnar is a beast. He’s one of the most athletic fighters to ever step into the octagon, and probably the most physically gifted heavyweight ever.

This fight will be a spectacle to behold, no matter where the fight goes. Fans love heavyweight showdowns, because they’re the best fighters in the world. Smaller guys may be more skilled, but heavyweights are king. This No. 1 contender fight could very likely produce the next UFC champion.

The fight will have to start standing, and it promises to be extremely entertaining from the moment the bell rings.

Overeem is a professional kickboxer, and is one of the best in the world. He has deadly knees, kicks and drops bombs with his sledgehammers for fists.

Brock Lesnar isn’t a great striker, but the beauty of the heavyweight division is that anyone has the power to knock the other fighter out.

Brock will try to take it to the ground, but he hasn’t fought anyone with the strength of Overeem in MMA. He also has to be weary of knees when going for the shot.

I imagine he’ll try to stand and bang for at least a little while with Overeem, because he won’t want to get stuffed on a shot and end up in the Dutch striker’s deadly clinch. It will be vital for Brock to check Alistair’s leg kicks, because they will certainly wear him down quickly.

Look for Lesnar to try and get inside with a one-two jab cross combo. He has definitely been working diligently on his striking for this fight, and he has a right-hand with one-punch knockout power.

If Brock can land a big shot, the fight is all his. Lesnar will keep Overeem down and surely be able to pound out a TKO victory.

There are many intriguing storylines in this fight, and it has the potential to be a UFC classic. Lesnar and Overeem is a must-watch fight for hardcore, and casual MMA fans alike.

GSP out of UFC 137 with an Injury: Nick Diaz Benefits the Most

George St.Pierre is out of UFC 139 with a knee injury, and the UFC has promoted BJ Penn vs. Nick Diaz to be the main event. This is still a very good fight, and it features two of the best fighters in the welterweight division.

Nick Diaz was the Strikeforce welterweight champion before the UFC acquired them earlier this year.

He’s a very entertaining fighter with a seemingly never-ending gas tank. Nick competes regularly in triathlons when he’s not fighting, and does decently well in them.

Diaz is very skilled on the ground, with a background in Brazilian jiu jitsu. He’s dangerous on the ground in all positions, and has the ability to finish fights.

Nick Diaz is also a very skilled boxer, and is accurate with combinations. His footwork is solid, and he’s able to slip and block punches with good consistency.

Strikeforce has been the UFC’s main competitor, but they still don’t have the level of talent that the UFC has. Diaz has been saying he wants a fight with GSP, but it would be a very large step-up in competition.

BJ Penn is going through a bit of a rough patch, and isn’t the fighter he was a couple of years ago. He’s still a high-level fighter, and will be a tough test for Diaz.

If Nick Diaz is able to beat Penn, he will be more ready for the ability that GSP has. Penn is still a top-notch boxer, and game plans well for big fights. He’s elusive and hard to hit just like GSP. He will also be hard to takedown if Diaz should try to get the fight to the mat.

Diaz was originally booted from the GSP fight because of issues involving a press conference. If he wins against Penn, the UFC will have to give him the title fight.

GSP’s long layaway will certainly affect him at least a little bit. This is obviously another benefit to Diaz.

I’m not saying that Diaz will be the guy to beat GSP, but the champ will lose eventually. It happens to all great champions. Most fighters don’t know when they’ve lost it, and have a hard time getting out of the fight game.

GSP’s injury is bad for fans, Carlos Condit, the UFC, but not Nick Diaz. Let’s see if he can capitalize on the opportunity put in front of him.

Chael Sonnen: Why UFC’s Best Wrestler Can Beat Anderson Silva for the Title

At UFC 136, Chael Sonnen fought Brian Stann for the next UFC middleweight title shot against Anderson Silva. Sonnen absolutely annihilated Stann, proving he’s the best wrestler in the UFC, and also the best contender for the middleweight title.

Brian Stann was an up-and-coming fighter who was rising through the ranks and being groomed for a title shot. He had just beat Jorge Santiago and Chris Leben and was the fans’ choice to take on “The Spider” next.

Chael Sonnen killed any title hopes for a long time for Brian Stann. Stann is a good wrestler himself, but he couldn’t stop any takedowns, let alone land a shot of his own.

Sonnen isn’t great at mixing strikes and landing perfectly timed shots. Everyone knows what he’s going to do, but they still can’t stop him. That’s a mark of true greatness.

If Sonnen gets inside on you and manages to get hooks, you’re going to the ground. That’s a fact.

In the first fight with Silva, Sonnen showed that he could take down the champ with ease. Silva was injured, but I don’t imagine it would have made a difference. Sonnen dominated the entire fight, but he got caught late with a triangle choke.

Sonnen won’t make the same mistake twice. This time he’ll be ready for the submission.

Silva has top-quality jiu-jitsu, but it doesn’t compare to the wrestling ability and control that Chael has. His relentless pace, and grinding style is tough for any fighter to stop.

This fight will once again be decided on the mat. Everyone knows how good of a striker Anderson Silva is, but it won’t matter.

Anderson Silva got beat up by Chael Sonnen once already, but managed to win the fight late. Silva won’t be as lucky this time, and will have to improve his wrestling by leaps and bounds if he wants to go home with a belt around his waist.
