Conor McGregor isn’t concerned with the jiu-jitsu game of Nate Diaz.
McGregor, the reigning UFC featherweight champion, will move all the way up to welterweight to face Diaz this Saturday night at UFC 196 in the main event.
During an interview on “UFC Tonight” Wednesday, McGregor offered up his thoughts on how the bout will go down. Remember, “Notorious” has earned himself quite the moniker for being able to accurately forecast fight finishes.
“His jiu-jitsu is overrated. I see opportunities to pass his guard. I’ll bang it out and I’ll keep it on the feet. When he goes down, he rolls out to get out, I’ll pass his guard, mount him, pound him out or look for the choke.”

UFc female bantamweight Holly Holm isn’t about to provide Miesha Tate with any added ammunition ahead of UFC 196 this Saturday night.
The two will meet in the co-main event from Las Vegas and the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
During open workouts on Wednesday, Holm (10-0) was asked her thoughts on a potential late-2016 rematch with Ronda Rousey. The former world boxing champion knocked Rousey out last year to win the belt.
“At this point, I’m not looking past March 5,” Holm said (thanks to MMAjunkie.com for the quotes). “That’s as far as my mind will let me go, that’s as far as my heart and my passion will let me go.
“You’re never promised another fight. I want to make sure I make the most of this fight and not look past it.”
Originally, UFC officials wanted to pair Holm and Rousey up for an immediate rematch. However, the former U.S. Olympic bronze medalist requested time off following her first career loss in 13 pro bouts.
Instead, Holm gets Tate, who is a former Strikeforce champion and has won four of her six UFC fights as part of a 17-5 career record.
“When I first signed with the UFC, everybody was talking about the title fight with Ronda,” Holm said. “I still had to focus on the fights at hand before I could ever get there. And right now, I have Miesha in front of me, so I’m focusing on that.
“I’m glad the fans want to see things, because that’s why they’re in the stands. I just hope I give them fights that they want to see, and right now, Miesha’s next.”
The 34-year-old Holm has scored Octagon victories over Rousey, Marion Reneau and Raquel Pennington after winning fights in Legacy FC and Bellator MMA. She has finished seven of her 10 opponents via knockout.
Silva (35-12-1) has not fought in over three years and is currently suspended after refusing to take a drug test by the Nevada Athletic Commission. His ban will end in the spring of 2017, but it remains unclear if Silva will try to compete outside of North America.
After the ordeal with the NAC, Silva was given a lifetime ban from the commission. He appealed, and it was overturned last year. However, he remained under contract to the UFC until this past January, when the two sides brokered a deal, making the 39-year-old a free agent.
Silva has made it known on social media that he would like to fight fellow former Pride legend Fedor Emelianenko, who is currently signed to a fight contract with Rizin. Bellator and Rizin put on a show in Japan for New Year’s Eve.
The last time Silva fought was in 2013 when he knocked out Brian Stann. He went 3-2 over his last five UFC fights.
He is a former Pride middleweight champion and Pride Middleweight Grand Prix winner, along with two semifinal appearances.

Conor McGregor’s claims were backed up by UFC president Dana White during a recent interview with “Sports Illustrated”.
During the first press conference featuring McGregor and his UFC 196 opponent Nate Diaz, the featherweight champion remarked that he asked for the fight to take place at 170 pounds – the welterweight limit.
Many wondered if it was just “Notorious” being notorious, but White made sure to cement the fact during the interview.
“The fight is supposed to be at 155. Nate says he wants it at 165,” White said (thanks to MMAjunkie.com for transcribing). “I said, ‘No, this kid is moving up from 145 to 155. You told me you could make 155. You’ve got to make 155.’ He can’t make 155, so I said, “Let’s do 160.’ He can’t do 160, so I tell Conor, ‘He can’t do 160 pounds. He wants to do 165 pounds.’ Conor says, ‘You tell him it’s 170.’
“Now we have a welterweight bout. Conor McGregor is moving from 145 pounds to 170 pounds to fight Nate Diaz.”
White added that McGregor boastfully remarked, “I will fight anybody, anytime at any weight,” and told the UFC to simply “call me back” when they knew what was going on.
McGregor was originally scheduled to challenge Rafael dos Anjos for the lightweight title this weekend. Jose Aldo, Frankie Edgar, Donald Cerrone and Anthony Pettis were among those mentioned as replacements before it was decided that Diaz would get the fight.
