Jim Miller and Nate Diaz are all set to square off Saturday night on FOX. The card begins at 8 p.m.

Even though this isn’t a major fight, it should still pack a big punch and leave fans happy. Of course, if you root for the guy who ends up losing, then obviously you’re not going to be all that pleased.

Still, as a whole, UFC fans ought to be thrilled for this fight, as both competitors are in dire need of a victory in order to reach a title bout. That means both will come out strong, looking to dominate as much as possible.

This could easily lead to mistakes, resulting in the heavy blows that fans love to see.

Diaz has won two fights in a row now, but extending the win streak won’t be easy. Miller is determined to shut Diaz down and put a stop to his surging momentum in the lightweight division.

Look for Miller to use his grappling skills and try to keep this fight on the ground as much as possible. He has to play to his strengths for a victory, and using his wrestling talents to get the job done is the best approach.

For Diaz, he’ll hope to remain standing and use his relentless striking skills to quickly pulverize Miller. He’s clearly the better striker, which is why he has a tremendous chance winning this big bout.

However, I’m going with Miller to get the victory via submission. Diaz will be swinging too hard and Miller will catch him off guard, taking him to the mat and ending it with a rear naked choke.

UFC 144 from Japan is sure to be thrilling, and the main event featuring Frankie Edgar and Benson Henderson will not disappoint as both fighters give fans an epic battle.

In the end, Edgar will retain his UFC lightweight title by narrowly beating Henderson.

Both fighters are very good at what they do, which is why this will be such an intense match. However, Edgar’s speed will be too much, as he outlasts Henderson.

Henderson has never lost in UFC, but his streak will end this weekend. He matches well with Edgar’s wrestling, but the champ will not be denied.

Edgar’s striking is better than Henderson, as his swift movement and fast hands will frustrate Henderson all night long.

Known as “Smooth,” Henderson will have to consider handing that nickname over to Edgar because “The Answer” will be much more suave and fluid in the fight.

Still, Henderson will use his strength, flexibility and stamina to give Edgar a true challenge. Japan will be getting one heck a show this weekend.

However, Edgar’s quickness will be on full display at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, making it hard for Henderson to find a great deal of success. Henderson will give it is all and take Edgar to the brink, but he won’t be able to do enough to get the victory.

You can watch this main event on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET, and all of the preliminary-card fights air live on FX and stream on Facebook.

UFC 142 Prediction: Chad Mendes vs. Jose Aldo Title Fight

UFC 142 in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil is sure to be excellent, as featherweight champion Jose Aldo looks to defend his title against rising star, Chad Mendes.

This is a very intriguing matchup, and these two fighters have different styles. Aldo is typically viewed as a lock to win every fight, but Mendes does pose some problems for him.

A fairly new addition to the UFC, the featherweight division is entering its second year of existence. UFC needs this fight to be grand, not only because it’s the main even, but also because it’s in such a great location.

With that said, here’s a breakdown of what it will take for each fighter to win, as well as who I think will win.

Chad Mendes

At 11-0, Mendes is on the rise, aiming to prove he can be a legitimate star in UFC. It won’t be easy to beat Aldo, but it’s definitely possible.

If Mendes is going to win this fight, though, he’s going to get it done on the ground. Takedowns are his game, and he has to get Aldo to the ground early and often.

Aldo is fast and also has a good ground defense, but Mendes is a superb wrestler. He’s beaten strikers before, but none as good as Aldo.

Dominating on the ground is a must for Mendes, simply because this is where he has the advantage. It will be interesting to see how Mendes does in front of the major crowd in Brasil.

Mendes has to play to his strengths, or else he could get burned. Staying on his feet too long will not end well.

Jose Aldo

An exceptional fighter, Aldo has been a great featherweight champion to watch. He has the flashy style that definitely excites the fan base.

At 20-1, Aldo has had some very impressive wins in his career. In order to retain his title, Aldo must avoid Mendes’ takedowns.

Remaining upright is Aldo’s best bet because he is a dominant striker. His quickness gives him a big edge in this fight, but if he’s taken to the ground it won’t matter.

His experience also helps him in this fight, as he has been tested much more than Mendes and against stiffer competition.

Fighting in front of the big crowd isn’t a worry for Aldo, as he is a true showman that lives for these moments.

Prediction

I don’t expect Aldo to win in under a minute, which is something he’s done more than once in his career.

This is going to be a good fight, but, in the end, Aldo’s powerful strikes will be the difference maker.

Mendes puts in a good effort, but Aldo will get the job done, winning by unanimous decision.

A knockout and then a proposal made it one heck of a weekend for MMA fighter Bryan Baker

Baker threw a left hook to the chin of Joe Riggs in Round 2. Riggs went down and it was all over. Baker won the special feature fight at Bellator 43. Baker is now 9-1 in his last 10 fights.

He brought his girlfriend in the cage and dropped to one knee to propose. He confessed his love to the hottie and she said yes. Congrats to the love birds.

You have to give Baker big props here. This was clearly a pre-planned proposal, which means he felt very confident he would be beating Riggs.

It takes a lot of guts to propose to a girl in a live national broadcast or in front of thousands of people.

My only thoughts on this is what would he have done had he lost? No way you want to propose after losing a big fight. He would have had to wait quite a while before popping the question. I doubt this WAG would want to be with a loser.

The worst part of this video is Baker’s now fiance screaming her head off after he knocked out Riggs. It starts around the :20 mark. You can’t even hear the announcer she is screaming so loud.

Maybe she knew if he won he would pop the question. I don’t know about that, nor do I know how Baker would put up with that screeching voice.

Oh yeah, she’s smoking hot.
