With UFC 137 right around the corner, UFC fans across the globe patiently wait for what has potential to be one of the most exciting fight cards of 2011.
Despite losing George St-Pierre due to an injury, the remaining card is worth every dollar you’ll spend.
Like any other event, we’ll see some of the greatest fights of the year and specific fighters establish themselves as legitimate contenders in their respected weight classes.
But, we’ll also see fighters fighting for their jobs as they haven’t lived up to expectations in the UFC.
The following slides display five fighters who will be fighting for their UFC careers come Saturday, October 29th in Las Vegas.

George St-Pierre was set to square off with Carlos Condit in a Welterweight championship bout at UFC 137 on October 29, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Unfortunately for all parties involved, the current champion suffered a knee injury that would eventually lead to his dismissal from the fight card.
At the time, the Ultimate Fighting Championship knew losing St-Pierre would but costly.
But, they didn’t realize how costly.
In a recent interview with Dave Meltzer of Yahoo! Sports he discussed exactly how much the UFC would lose from St-Pierre’s injury.
Meltzer was asked what his expectations were for how high UFC 137 could go in terms of pay-per-view buy rates.
Ticket sales, I don’t know because they’re already sold out. There are some refunds so I don’t know but again, how extensive those refunds, I don’t know until Dana gives the number at the end so I was just talking pay-per-view buys. I think it’s gonna cost them eight and a half million in pay-per-view buys from a 650 to a 300 [thousand] type of drop in that range.
Following St-Pierre’s injury, BJ Penn and Nick Diaz were announced as the new main event of the evening.
Despite Penn having higher buy rates than most fighters, the UFC will still suffer one of the biggest drops in the last few years.
It is estimated that St-Pierre’s injury will have cost the UFC around 8.5 million dollars when all is said and done.

Over the past several years, mixed martial arts has come to be one of the world’s fastest growing sports.
A major reason for its success revolves around the excitement and real-life entertainment the sport provides to its fans.
While the UFC is built upon a roster in the hundreds, there are a few fighters that stand out amongst the rest. It’s the sport’s heavy hitters who are recognized more than others as they bring an even greater excitement to the table.

Over the past several years, the UFC hasn’t had a more talked about name than Chael Sonnen.
Uncle Chael is overly recognized for calling out the world’s greatest fighter in Anderson Silva.
Sonnen’s gone to Twitter, post-fight interviews, and even national television to share exactly how he feels about Silva.
But, Silva’s not the only fighter Sonnen’s called out, and Sonnen’s outspokenness has caused many fighters to despise of him and formed a desire to fight him.
The following slides display the five fighters who would love to fight Uncle Chael.

UFC veterans Chael Sonnen and Kenny Florian joined John Anik on ESPN’s MMA Live segment on October 21st, 2011.
The hot topic of the day consisted of Anderson Silva and his manager Ed Soares, who have no interest in a fight with Sonnen over Superbowl weekend.
“Anderson just feels that he doesn’t deserve it yet. He doesn’t deserve it yet… A lot of people are interested in the fight. It’s a big fight. Anderson’s not ducking him.”
Sonnen was quick to chime in regarding Ed Soares’ comments stating,
“Well look, apparently the Ed So excuse factory is open for business. Look, there’s a couple of things going on here. First, a champion doesn’t call someone out. If your the champion, you get called out.”
Sonnen went on to add,
“Secondly, he’s doing the same thing I am. He’s calling Bisping out because Bisping’s an easy fight. Well, I want an easy fight too so that’s why I’m calling him out. I get it.”
Anik turned the conversation over to Florian in his opinion of whether or not Silva is ducking Sonnen.
Florian sarcastically stated,
“I think if this fight doesn’t get put together, I think it’s Chael’s fought. I don’t think Chael is doing enough to get the fight with Anderson Silva. He’s just not doing enough to promote the fight.”
The subject then changed to George St-Pierre’s return but Sonnen cut off Anik, bringing the attention back to Silva.
Sonnen asked,
“Will A, Anderson Silva go as a duck for Halloween this year or B will he dress as a chicken?”
While Florian refrained from answering, Anik went with option A.
Sonnen of course went with choice B, as he believes Silva will “chicken out” of their highly anticipated rematch.
Sonnen ended the interview by stating,
“I think he goes as a chicken. He already has the costume”

A major part of the UFC’s growth over the recent decade has come from the organization’s big names.
Everyone’s heard of Anderson Silva, St-Pierre or even Jon Jones.
But, what makes the sport of mixed martial arts even more special, every fighter has the opportunity to trail his own path.
While the UFC is built solely on the big named stars of the organization, it’s also built up of many fighters that fans fail to recognize.
The UFC is filled with fighters who’ve paid their dues; for some reason or another, however, they don’t get the same publicity as others do.
