Who can beat Anderson Silva?

This topic has been debated over and over again. Fighters that propose a great style match for the pound-for-pound kingpin have stepped up and been dispatched of like first class amateurs.

Like many great fighters, Silva has an aura that mesmerizes even his peers. His opponents tend to sit back and watch what he does instead of implementing their own game plans.

For example, Yushin Okami, a strong grappler, only made one half-hearted attempt at a takedown in his UFC 134 bout against Silva. He basically sat there as Silva danced on the outside and landed the inevitable punch that would end the fight.

After cleaning out all of the notable challengers in the middleweight division, Silva is left at a crossroads of rematches and jumping weight classes.

It’s tough to see Silva lose at this point, but as long as he keeps fighting, his time will come to take the inevitable plunge like the other all-time greats before himself.

If given the opportunity, here are five fighters with the best chance to squash “The Spider.”

A couple of weeks after derailing the Charles Oliveira hype train, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone has agreed to step in for an injured Sam Stout to face rising lightweight contender Dennis Siver at UFC 137.

Sources close to the agreed upon bout confirmed the news to MMAWeekly on Monday.

Cerrone is riding a five fight win streak, with three of those victories coming in the UFC.

This is a huge opportunity for the former WEC title contender to propel himself up the lightweight hierarchy.

While people look the other way, Siver has quietly positioned himself as a potential UFC title contender.

He is coming off big wins over George Sotiropoulos, Matt Wiman, Andre Winner and Spencer Fisher. A win over Siver could vault Cerrone into the contender ranks.

UFC 137 is expected to take place on October 29th at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz are slated to headline the blockbuster card.

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva added on to one of the greatest legacies in professional sports with a TKO victory over Yushin Okami at UFC 134 on Saturday night.

The champion used his deadly boxing and Matrix-like head movement to pick the contender apart in the standup exchanges and earn the stoppage at 2:04 of the second round.

There is no denying Silva’s brilliance in the bout, but it’s hard to look past Okami’s poor game plan. If there is one weakness in Silva’s game, it has to be his wrestling, which happens to be Okami’s strongest skill set. Instead of sticking to his strengths, the Japanese grappler curiously decided to stand and exchange with the greatest striker in MMA history.

Silva has virtually stomped out the entire middleweight division, and the only bouts left for the future Hall of Famer are rematches and superfights at light heavyweight.

There is always the slim possibility of a blockbuster superfight with welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. The bout could finally answer the most debated question in all of MMA. Who is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world––Silva or GSP?

UFC 134, which takes place in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil on Saturday, may be one of the most anticipated events of the year, but former UFC champion Forrest Griffin doesn’t seem to be enjoying the Brazilian experience.

The “Ultimate Fighter” Season 1 winner was on hand for an interview with Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com, where he talks about fighting outside of California, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and the latest shows on his DVR.

Griffin and Rua will serve as the co-headliner at UFC 134 in a rematch of their September 2007 bout.

Even though he shocked fans the first time around with a third round submission win, Griffin will enter the octagon on Saturday as a repeat underdog to Rua, who is coming off a devastating loss to current light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

Griffin is used to being the fan favorite, but he’ll likely be greeted with hordes of boos as he steps into the cage to face Brazil’s native son.
