If you’re a casual MMA consumer (which typically means you only watch the UFC ‘here and there’) the name Roger Huerta may sound familiar, due to the fact that it wasn’t long ago when the lightweight was one of the UFC’s top selling commodities. So what’s Roger been up to? Well, 1) he shocked the MMA world by signing with Bellator FC 2) he won his promotional debut only to lose to underdog Pat Curran one month later, and 3) apparently he brutalized some dude recently in Austin, who just seconds earlier, had sent a woman crashing to the street with a sucker punch. No; this isn’t a bit.

TMZ has posted video of the incident and although the footage is scrambled at the best of times, you can definitely make out that some serious sh-t went down. The report includes a quote from Huerta’s manager, who reportedly stated:

“I have not spoken to Roger yet about this incident, but I can say that it’s in his nature to be very protective of women.”

In an updated report from TMZ, UFC President Dana White is quoted saying:

“In no way do I condone street fighting, but when a guy puts his hands on a woman he deserves to be knocked the f*ck out. Good for Roger.”

That’s probably a sentiment that more than a few people share…As of this afternoon no charges have reportedly been laid.

If you’re having a tough day then it likely got much, much, much better, having seen the above pic. Yes, we’ve conceded in the past that the world is a much prettier place with Kenda Perez walking around, and if you haven’t seen her host Spike’s “Best of Pride” your life is incomplete (not just because she’s hot as hell but because Pride was the sh-t).

The new edition of the UFC Magazine features Randy Couture on the front, as well as, a multiple pic spread of Kenda (more importantly). We’d be remiss if we didn’t give huge props to Cage Potato for running the above picture of Kenda, including several others from the shoot. Now run along and be happy.

Chael Sonnen Says Drug Use Gave Lance Armstrong Cancer

Only a couple days out from Saturday’s tilt between Chael Sonnen and middleweight champ Anderson Silva, you may have been thinking that by this point, Sonnen’s steady flew of ‘what now?’ statements would be coming to an end. After all, how many over the top quotes can a fighter come up with to hype a […]

Only a couple days out from Saturday’s tilt between Chael Sonnen and middleweight champ Anderson Silva, you may have been thinking that by this point, Sonnen’s steady flew of ‘what now?’ statements would be coming to an end. After all, how many over the top quotes can a fighter come up with to hype a fight? (cue James Toney’s eyebrow raising…)

Well, while speaking on Pro MMA Radio a couple of days ago, Sonnen made a few more comments which if he was still involved in politics, would have given his campaign handlers the biggest ‘oh no’ gulp of their lives. Anderson, you can relax, it’s not about you. When asked a follow up question about people who don’t take responsibility for their mistakes (Sonnen had been discussing “Rampage” Jackson and his recent legal issues ), the middleweight contender turned to 7 time Tour De France winner Lance Armstrong (thanks to MMA Mania for the quote).

“When you screw up, you have to own it. That stuff really gets under my skin. Take Lance Armstrong. Lance Armstrong did a number of things and he gave himself cancer. He cheated, he did drugs, and he gave himself cancer. Well, instead of saying ‘Hey listen, I cheated and gave myself cancer, don’t be like me.’ He actually made himself the victim and then went out and profited something like $15 million dollars from this ‘Hey, poor me, let’s find a cure for cancer’ campaign instead of just coming clean and saying, ‘Look, here’s what I did, I screwed myself up, and I hope people learn from my mistakes.”

Wow. Looks like Chael isn’t thinking about politics longterm either..

James Toney Threatens to KO Dana White

Earlier today we passed along a nice lil nugget from Roy Nelson, who in his typical fine and or controversial form, offered his less than glowing review of Shane Carwin and Brock Lesnar. Well, if you thought any of those statements were even remotely ‘shocking’, check out some of the latest comments from James Toney. […]

Sure, Toney has talked some serious sh-t heading into his MMA debut against Randy Couture later this month, but now the accomplished boxer has targeted Dana White. Apparently Toney is…shall we say…’miffed’ about some things the UFC Pres has said recently (maybe Dana’s “freak show comments?). Here are just a couple of quotes from an interview Toney did with BJPenn.com.

“I’m the only real legend in this fight. Look what I’ve done; I’ve won 6 world titles in six different weight divisions. You know what I’m saying? I’ve been in this game 23 years. How you going to put (down) a man who’s been in the sport longer than you’ve been promoting. I know Dana White’s been running his mouth saying I’m making a mockery, or whatever, Dana White, after I get done knocking Couture out, you’re next. I promise you.”…..“I’m not Rashad Evans; I’m not Quinton Jackson. I’m not going to kiss your ass; I’m going to beat your ass. If you talk to me like a bitch I’m going to show you.”

Huh. Nothing stirs the old MMA pot like threatening the president of the world’s largest promotion…At least we’re pretty sure that’s what Toney said. Check out the video for yourself.

Roy Nelson Sees Junior dos Santos Ahead of Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin

While Chael Sonnen has been capturing headlines over the last few weeks for his ‘okay what now?’ trash talk, it’s easy to forget that there are plenty of other dudes in the UFC, who also possess a remarkable gift for controversial gab. Of course, if you’ve followed Roy Nelson since his arrival in the UFC […]

While Chael Sonnen has been capturing headlines over the last few weeks for his ‘okay what now?’ trash talk, it’s easy to forget that there are plenty of other dudes in the UFC, who also possess a remarkable gift for controversial gab. Of course, if you’ve followed Roy Nelson since his arrival in the UFC (or before), you know that you don’t head for another web site when the heavyweight’s talking.

In addition to this Saturday’s tilt between Sonnen and middleweight champ Anderson Silva, the bout between Nelson and Junior dos Santos has a teee-onne riding on the outcome. Dana White has already stated that the winner will get a crack at whoever wins between Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez on Oct. 23rd. Well, while speaking to MMA Fighting’s Ben Fowlkes, Nelson made the argument that dos Santos is “probably the No.1 guy out there”, by breaking down Lesnar’s recent win over Shane Carwin.

“Carwin, he seems like he trains for five, one-minute rounds. That’s his championship fight, apparently,” said Nelson. “But no, you learn a lot. Like Carwin, he quits. He basically quit with Brock and he tapped out. That means you quit. It’s pretty self-explanatory. Then Brock, you learned that if you don’t give him an opportunity to come back on you, if you don’t give him that hole to come back, he won’t come back. Shane just gave him the chance to come back. He didn’t put him away.”

Don’t hold back on our account Roy. Nelson also cited Carwin’s recent episode of ‘lactic acidosis,’ as to why he prefers to be “fat”, rather than a muscular monstrosity like Shane. See; being fat does have its perks. To bet on UFC 117 head here.

Jon Jones Wants to Face Top 3 Fighter Next

So if you decided yesterday that the MMA pundits were morons for having Jon Jones as such a heavy favorite, and consequently, threw some dough down on Vladimir Matyushenko pulling off the upset last night in San Diego…look at this way, at least it’s Monday and you can get back to earning some cash right?

So if you decided yesterday that the MMA pundits were morons for having Jon Jones as such a heavy favorite, and consequently, threw some dough down on Vladimir Matyushenko pulling off the upset last night in San Diego…look at this way, at least it’s Monday and you can get back to earning some cash right?

Yes, if you missed the fight last night on Versus you likely know by now, that Jones quickly took “The Janitor” to the mat and promptly began cleaning the floor with his head via a flurry of elbows. As most expected, Jones cruised to victory over the accomplished decade plus vet, and today the hype spotlight is more scalding bright than ever before. Case in point, everyone wants to know who Jones wants to fight next, and speaking after the bout he reportedly stated (thanks to MMA Weekly for the quote):

“There’s the champion. He’s the toughest guy right now. He’s very well-rounded and is a great striker. Just the top three contenders that I really want to push myself against,” said Jones. “I really feel that needs to happen.”

The report furthered that Jones was referring to Shogun Rua (obviously), Lyoto Machida and “Rampage” Jackson. What about Rashad Evans? Jones trains with “Sugar” so that’s apparently in the ‘don’t go there’ category. What did Dana White have to say? After the “dust settles” in the upcoming schedule, Jones will reportedly take on someone in the top eight. Cool beans. And oh yeah, Jon, the post-fight “stay classy San Diego” bit was gold…
