Mauricio “Shogun” Rua looks to make it two wins in a row when he takes on Dan Henderson in the main event at UFC 139.

Rua bounced back nicely from an ugly defeat at the hands of Jon Jones by defeating Forrest Griffin at UFC 134.

Rua looked like his old self as he used his patented striking to finish Griffin in the first round.

Henderson will be an entirely different animal at UFC 139, but Rua has the tools to beat the Strikeforce champion.

Many fans know and love the competition that occurs inside the Octagon or inside a Bellator cage.

But there’s a much more important fight being fought outside the steel confines.

The battle over who has the hotter ring girl allows a little estrogen to be inserted in each MMA event that reminds of us why we pay attention in between rounds.

It’s not for the coaching advice we hear in the fighter’s corners. No, it’s because that’s our opportunity to see some of the best looking women grace us with their presence.

So who has the hotter ring girl? The UFC or Bellator?

On the stacked undercard of the UFC on Fox, Cub Swanson makes his much anticipated UFC debut against Ricardo Lamas.

Swanson was supposed to make his debut twice before against Erik Koch, but was forced out of the fight due to injury both times.

Lamas, on the other hand, made an incredible debut on the UFC on Versus 4 show. Lamas nailed a switch-head kick and some impressive ground and pound to defeat Matt Grice.

Both men will look to increase their title chances by putting on an exciting fight.

Dana White has now confirmed that the next opponent for Anderson Silva will be Chael Sonnen.

White knows it’s what the fans want and as he always says, the UFC will give the fans the fights they want.

Of course, the UFC wants this fight as well.

The first meeting between the two men saw PPV numbers rise for Silva as Sonnen badgered “the Spider” for weeks leading up to the bout.

A rematch could be one of the most profitable matches in 2012 outside of the Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz fight.

Earlier this week, Sonnen tweeted that Anderson and himself were having a meeting, which only enticed fans about the prospects of them fighting again.

Given his opponent for UFC 136, the former soldier Brian Stann, Sonnen remained relatively quiet in the lead-up to the event. His silence ended after his win. Sonnen really got the ball rolling for a rematch with his WWE-style UFC 136 post-fight interview and has since gone on The Jim Rome Show and claimed “he is the real 185-pound champion.”

When presented with the notion that Sonnen lost the fight, he replied he isn’t sure how you win after taking 300 blows and then wrapping your legs around someone’s head for five seconds.

It would seem Sonnen will have a chance to finally proved that besides being “the people’s champ,” he can be the UFC champ.

No word yet on if it’s been announced as a “loser leaves town” match.

UFC: Forrest Griffin Picks the Worst Time To Cause Attention over Tweeting

Forrest Griffin recently won an award for being the most creative UFC fighter on Twitter. Unfortunately, Griffin took his creativity to a new low today.

Griffin tweeted: “Rape is the new missionary.”

As expected, his Twitter followers quickly responded with negative retorts and some even unfollowed Griffin as a result.

Instead of admitting his fault, Griffin defended himself by calling people obscenities. One lady even tweeted to him that she had been raped herself.

Griffin responded to her by saying sorry and hopes she didn’t take anything he said to heart. I’m sure that was very comforting for her.

Does Griffin not watch the news at all?

Besides the UFC opening its doors to a wide audience on Saturday with the UFC on Fox special, the country has become embroiled in the  Penn State scandal. Forrest couldn’t have picked a worse time to make a rape joke.

The UFC and Dana White will probably respond with their usual “how can we control what fighters say” line. The fact is the UFC needs to step up their policy on fighters and twitter.

The company made a lot of headlines by embracing the social media and has been at the forefront of how to properly use Twitter and Facebook for beneficial use. If the UFC is going to reward its’ fighters for tweeting back to fans, they need to punish their fighters as well.

I’m all for a dirty or racy joke at times but rape is never a category I would consider “comedy gold.” White says he wants to be the biggest sport eventually; if he wants to do that he needs to “play the game” as he infamously said.

All the major sports leagues have fines in place for their athletes using twitter in the wrong way. The UFC needs to start implementing policies like that if they want to truly be mainstream.
