Every month, the UFC puts on at least one pay-per-view, and fans are left having to figure out if they should buy it or not.
Of course, MMA lovers also have the option of going out to enjoy the night’s fights and some decent food as well. Some cities have all of the options mentioned here, while some towns might only have a few.
Some of these choices are also more specific than others, while a few are archetypes that exist in every town and city in the world.

Every division has at least one fighter that fans tune in to watch. The guy who wins or loses brings in money and gets paid well for his efforts.
He may not have the best record, but fans know that he will keep going until there is nothing left to give or his opponent has knocked him out.
Every year there are changes to the list, as some fighters retire and others grow smarter and decide to fight to win instead of to have the fans cheer them.
Still, as long as there is fighting, there will always be martial artists who decide to scrap.
Here are the most exciting fighters from flyweight all the way up to heavyweight.

MMA still has a lot of hurdles to cross when it comes to mainstream acceptance. The sport is still banned in New York and has plenty of detractors across the world who don’t understand the sport.
It doesn’t help that one of those detractors is ESPN, the sports conglomerate famous for its coverage and SportsCenter.
What it isn’t well known for is its coverage of MMA.
Some of the perception that ESPN is against MMA is a knee-jerk reaction to the Outside the Lines piece it just did on UFC fighter pay. It came off as half-baked because there was a lack of fighters currently employed by the UFC willing to talk on camera.
If that was the only reason that could be given, it would be more appropriate to say ESPN had an issue with the UFC and was choosing to cover a topic it knew would get it noticed and increase revenue.
But ESPN does have a bias against MMA. For the longest time it never covered it and even now it is only starting to take notice of it.
That wouldn’t mean anything except it flies right in the face of its slogan: “The Worldwide Leader in Sports.” That is ESPN’s mantra and it even shows up on the link to its website when Googled.
But MMA doesn’t get the same kind of coverage that other sports get and in the end it shows when fans click on the website.
MMA is nowhere to be found on the front page and the link to the ESPN MMA portion of the website can’t be found without clicking on the “More Sports” section and then scrolling to the bottom of the page.
The link to the MMA portion of the website can be found here below the boxing part of the site mixed in with lacrosse and horse racing.
While I can’t speak for lacrosse and horse racing, as a writer who has done both boxing and MMA articles for Bleacher Report I can say MMA is viewed by a much wider audience. To have it below boxing isn’t just insulting, it’s bad business.
ESPN even had a show called MMA Live, but it is Internet based and lacks exposure. It has also lost a decent analyst in Jon Anik, who was recently hired by the UFC. The show hasn’t been featured as heavily as it once was either.
MMA isn’t as well known as football or basketball and doesn’t have as many fans. One day that may change, but for now it is the truth. The fact that ESPN focuses on those sports more makes sense.
However, MMA is growing and ESPN isn’t expanding its coverage at the same rate.
Its biggest contribution to MMA in recent months was the OTL piece that disparaged the sport’s biggest promoter.
With MMA on FOX and the sport getting bigger everyday their is little possibility that it won’t grow into a major phenomenon like boxing once was.
The Worldwide Leader in Sports.
It is up to ESPN if it wants to live up to that moniker.

Rashad Evans was able to beat Phil Davis on FOX when the UFC rolled into Chicago this last weekend, and in doing it, he clinched a spot in Atlanta to face Jon Jones for the world title.
Every fight tells a story as it progresses, and the one with Davis and Evans was interesting if one-sided. First-time fans could easily have been bored, but long-time fans could see nuanced answers to the questions that spring up from fights.
It wasn’t even close to as exciting as the trash talk that preceded the fight, but it did the two things a fight should do.
It gave fans a challenger for the champion, and it gave them answers.
Here are the top five things fans can take away from the fight.

No matter what happens at UFC 143, the main event should end with one winner and one loser. This isn’t guaranteed, as draws do happen, but with both men having a penchant for finishing fights, it isn’t likely.
So the winner will get to face Georges St-Pierre down the road and at the same time have a chance to claim dominance in the division.
The question to this hypothetical depends on the type of environment.
The truth is that both men could easily beat Georges St-Pierre. They would just need more then 25 minutes to do it.
If St-Pierre was a champion who took risks and aimed to take out every challenger that stepped in the cage with him, the answer would be different. Neither might stand a chance against him, but as he has evolved, he has developed into a fighter who makes game plans based on the time limit and his opponents’ strengths.
There is nothing wrong with this. It is what you do in sports, and it is what makes some of the greats.
But MMA is a hybrid of fighting and sports. Athletes aren’t the ones who survive at the top for long.
Fighters are.
In the old rules of MMA, both Condit and Diaz would be champions, because they are the type to outlast their opponents until they can knock them out or submit them. GSP is the type to make plans around the rules and exploit them.
St-Pierre could easily be the man who finishes fights and goes out and performs like both of his potential challengers, but because he doesn’t, he has grown rusty in that sense.
If the fight were to take place in a ring under Pride rules, GSP might very well lose his crown.
Still, within the frame of the UFC and the Octagon, he is perfect. He uses the cage effectively, has the proper cardio and knows how to pace himself.
He is the perfect machine for the job of being a UFC champion.
That is why no matter who wins the match, neither man can defeat him in the Octagon.
As a fighter they could.
As mixed martial artist they could.
But not as UFC fighters.
And that is the unvarnished truth.

After the show that the UFC put on FOX it could be easy to get discouraged. The fights weren’t the most exciting even if they did have some of the best fighters in the world competing in them.
However, the UFC 143 card has a lot of fighters who are known for bringing excitement and winning bonuses stacked on the card and facing each other, which is always a good sign. The UFC may stumble every now and then, but for the most part they know how to put on a great event.
So here to help remind you why MMA is worth getting excited for are the top 10 reasons to get jazzed about UFC 143.
