This weekend we have the Bellator fights, but we also have a UFC fight night.

Both fights are free on TV, but no matter what platform fights appear on, they should still be rated by how exciting they’re going to be. So with that said lets get to the rating breakdown.

1 = Only use this as an aide to cure insomnia.

2=Will have some entertainment value.

3=Decent fight that, just like most matinee movies, you won’t remember three hours after you watch it, but you’ll enjoy yourself while it’s on.

4=A good fight that will keep you on your toes.

5=A fight with a little bit of everything.

6=They don’t get much better than this. After watching it your voice is a little hoarse from all the yelling but it will worth it.

7=They don’t get any better than this… ever.  Forget sleep and forget your voice, because you won’t be speaking normal again until Friday.

Now that that’s out of the way, lets move on.

UFC 139: 5 Reasons Putting Cung Le in the Main Event Is a Mistake

There is no denying that Cung Le is a full blown star. From his fights in the cage to showing up in movies like Pandorum with Dennis Quaid prove it.

Still, I can’t understand why Dana White has allowed Le to take up a main slot in a UFC pay-per-view card. Against Vitor Belfort no less.

The “Phenom” is a draw, not to mention that Belfort is coming off a win against Akiyama. Sure Le is a draw in his own right and can fight too, but there are also a lot of drawbacks to using a full-blown action movie star who also competes in MMA.

You can never be sure how reliable he is going to be. For a businessman like White, I’m surprised that he either didn’t consider or didn’t care about the possible reasons that this could end badly.

The first being…

The best part about watching combat sports is that no matter what you might be expecting, things are constantly changing. Whatever seemed expected might be completely unimaginable six months from now.

For a sport where a fight can change in a moment, a day seems almost like an eternity.

Sometimes the fights go the way that most think they will and sometimes they shock us all with how they end up.

Let’s take a look at some of the most unsurprising and incredible moments from last night.

Just because the UFC is taking a week off, doesn’t mean MMA does. There is a mass of exciting fights going on this weekend, though, to be honest…

Some are going to be more exciting than others. So to decide which fights are worth watching I invented a system to rank the probability that a match will make us fans salivate.

Here’s the breakdown.

*=Only use this as an aide to cure insomnia. Or a method of torture.

**=Drink enough alcohol and this fight might entertain you.

***=Decent fight. Just like most matinee movies you won’t remember it three hours after it happened, but you’ll enjoy yourself while your watching it.

****=A good fight. Something that will keep you on your toes every once in a while and you’ll have a smile on your face the next morning as you remember it.

*****=Are you glad you saw this fight? It had a little bit of everything and it will get you through Monday at work when you wonder why you need your paycheck. It might even be something you brag about watching.

******=They don’t get much better than this. Your voice is a little hoarse from all the yelling, but it was worth it. It’ll be hard getting to sleep, and by tomorrow, you will have read every scrap of post-fight news you can find on the web.

*******=They don’t get any better than this! Ever! Forget sleep as you won’t be getting much, if you get any at all. You will be refreshing news pages for new articles and breaking information, and by Friday your voice still won’t sound normal.

So with that done, let’s get started!

Kazushi Sakaraba: An MMA Ring Death Just Waiting to Happen

I was reading through the upcoming events in MMA when I read that the UFC was going to Japan in 2012.

Since DREAM is still around, I wondered if the Japanese organization had any plans for that year, and to see if they planned on trying to compete with Zuffa juggernaut.

Instead, I saw a card for DREAM 17 and a name on there that immediately filled me with dread.

The Gracie Hunter, Kazushi Sakaraba.

Before I go on, I have to say that I’m a fan of Sakaraba. He has beaten some of the best names in MMA and fought plenty more of them. Win or lose he has always given his all. The problem is he still is fighting and giving 100 percent.

He shouldn’t be fighting at all.

No doubt the last image in most of your minds of Sakaraba is the picture of the partially ripped off ear that was taken in his 2010 fight with Marius Zaromskis. He was 41 then.

Now he is a year older and has taken close to the same amount of time off since that fight. However, sometimes in Japanese MMA, the fighters are given easy comeback fights.

Not this time though. Instead of a soft touch, Sakaraba gets undefeated 9-0 Yan Cabral.

Cabral is 28.

It’s true that Cabral hasn’t faced murder’s row, but at this point, Sakaraba has been worn threadbare. His body is literally falling off of him. Sakaraba has lost his last three, and five of his last seven. He is worn out. He has nothing left, but he keeps coming back to fight again.

The worst part is that Sakaraba wants to die in the ring. His pride as a fighter keeps him coming back and his samurai spirit has him longing to die.

When he does, though, there will be no glory. No one will say that the man died like he wanted.

There will just be more bad press for MMA, and one more fallen hero.

To go in the ring when you know you might die takes courage. To walk in hoping that you will takes something else. Somebody to tell you that you need help.

Let’s hope Sakaraba gets it.

10 Veteran Fighters the UFC Has Used and Abused for Name Value

By now I’m sure it seems like I have an anti-UFC bias, but I swear it’s not the case.

It just so happens that all the positive UFC articles keep getting written, and nobody wants to read the same thing several times over.

One of the great things about the UFC is that they rarely have mismatches.  This doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen, but that it happens rarely.

And yet it does happen.  No matter how much Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg try to spin it, some fights are just plain awful and don’t seem competitive from the first time they’re mentioned to the final bell.

The reason for some of these is because some of the fighters in them are old and worn out.  Anything that might have remained of the glory is faded, and the fighter is badly injured.

Yet somehow the UFC and Joe Silva find these fighters and convince them to step in the cage for us to watch.

Let’s take a look at some of the worst uses of veteran fighters.
