Phil Davis is prepared to utilize his wrestling skills against Rashad Evans when the two light heavyweights square off at UFC on FOX 2 later this month.

The former Penn State alumni is currently undefeated in the UFC, sporting a 6-0 record inside the Octagon, and he hopes to remain that way with a win over Evans.

FightHubTV.com caught up with “Mr.Wonderful” during a training session to watch Davis implement wrestling drills and techniques.

Davis and Evans were originally set to meet last August at UFC 133 before a knee injury prevented Davis from competing. The two competitors have recently built up a rivalry since then, when both Evans and Davis traded words back and forth at a UFC on FOX press conference.

The winner between Evans and Davis is scheduled to challenge UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

UFC light heavyweight contender Thiago Silva appears to be ready to return to the Octagon following his one-year suspension. As of January 1st, 2012, Silva is eligible to reapply for his license.

The Brazilian last fought against Brandon Vera at UFC 125, but it was learned after his victory that Silva had tested positive for steroids. The decision was overturned to a “no contest”.

Silva released a statement shortly after admitting to steroid use and revealed he tried to fool the athletic commission by injecting PEDs to heal from a back injury.

“I did so in an attempt to alter the results of the test and knowingly broke the rules of the Nevada Athletic Commission,” Silva wrote. “I am prepared to accept this punishment, learn from it and move on. I apologize to the Commission, the UFC, Brandon Vera and the MMA fans.”

Owning a 14-2 record, Silva has fought some of the top competitors in the 205-pound division. Prior to his bout with Vera, Silva faced Rashad Evans, Lyoto Machida and Keith Jardine.

2011 has been an up-and-down year for Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

After relinquishing the UFC light heavyweight title to Jon Jones at UFC 128, Rua followed up with a knockout victory over Forrest Griffin at UFC 134 shortly after. However, the Brazilian found himself on the losing end of a unanimous decision to Dan Henderson at UFC 139.

Despite finishing the year at 1-2 inside the Octagon, Rua is looking toward the future and anticipates a bout against one of the light heavyweight division’s elite fighters.

“This is the most disputed weight class, and I don’t have an opponent yet because it’s too messy right now,” Rua told TATAME.com. “I’m sure it’ll be a tough guy because there’re only tough guys on the division. I’ll keep training to fight the best.”

Rua will enter this year hoping to regain the light heavyweight crown after losing it to Jones, who has since gone on to successfully defend the 205-pound strap on two occasions. “Shogun” praised the 24-year-old’s empathic rise and was optimistic about the champion’s potential.

“He’s very eclectic, a good guy, and absolutely a guy who’s making room for himself in MMA,” he said. “He has beaten many good fighters, top guys of the division and he’s proven to be a good athlete.”

No date has been set for the Brazilian to return, though he has already began training in preparation for a future bout. Rua has yet to know of his next opponent, but he is expected to remain training and stay in shape.

“I don’t know when I’m fighting. Next week I might make some deal, but for now I don’t know anything about it, so I’m taking it easy,” he said.

Jon Jones: ‘I Want to Fight 4 Times This Year’

After having an unprecedented run last year, Jon Jones is ready to return to the Octagon and continue his dominance throughout the light heavyweight division.

After defeating Ryan Bader at UFC 126, Jones went on to capture the UFC light heavyweight crown from Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. He then successfully defended it against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Lyoto Machida. Following his recent victory over Machida at UFC 140, the 24-year-old said he would like to take some time off and relax.

However, it looks like Jones might ditch that idea and come back sooner than later.

“Originally I said I wanted to take off four or five months, but I may reconsider and come back sooner and have three or four fights this year,” Jones told ESPN.com.

Should the 205-pound champion decide to return, it is expected that he would compete in April, which would likely see him square off against either Rashad Evans or Dan Henderson. Evans is scheduled to meet light heavyweight prospect Phil Davis at UFC on FOX 2 on January 28.

Jones’ four consecutive wins have led many fans to consider it the most successful year ever produced by a mixed martial artist. And after having such a remarkable year, Jones is poised to replicate that same success.

“I’ve been thinking recently about trying to compete four times in the year again. I grew so much as a person that by doing that again in 2012 will just make me a better athlete,” he said. “My goal is to finish every fight in 2012. If I do that, a lot of other things will fall into place naturally.”

Fresh off his recent victory over Brock Lesnar at UFC 141, Alistair Overeem could find himself challenging for the UFC heavyweight title in the very near future.

While appearing on FUEL TV’s UFC Tonight, UFC President Dana White confirmed that he was looking to schedule a bout between the pair of heavyweights sometime later this year, possibly around the summer.

“This summer is probably when it’s going to go down,” White said. “Alistair wants to take some time off. Dos Santos is ready but needs to get some training in. So hopefully, this summer.”

Overeem debuted for the UFC last weekend and made quite a statement by finishing the former UFC heavyweight champion in less than three minutes. Meanwhile, dos Santos is currently recovering from knee surgery after beating Cain Velasquez at UFC on FOX.

Both Overeem and dos Santos are the two most technical and decorated fighters in the heavyweight division, renowned for their striking ability and knockout power. White predicted the bout will give both fighters the opportunity to showcase their stand-up skills.

“This is one of those fights where no matter where this ends up, it’ll be exciting,” he said. “But I see this fight standing up and finding out who hits the hardest and who has the best chin.”

Although no date has been finalized, it’s likely the UFC decides to feature the heavyweight title bout on either Memorial Day weekend or Fourth of July weekend.

Vitor Belfort Says It’s a "Pleasure" to Fight at UFC 142 in Brazil

When Vitor Belfort returns to Brazil to face Anthony Johnson at UFC 142, he’ll likely receive a hero’s welcome.

The 34-year-old is set to meet Johnson in a middleweight bout on the evening’s main card in the co-main event.

In addition to performing in front of his home crowd, Belfort got the chance to train and prepare in Brazil as well. The atmosphere shouldn’t be too intimidating for the Brazilian as he previously fought in his homeland 12 years ago at UFC Brazil, knocking out fellow Brazilian Wanderlei Silva in less than a minute into the opening round.

And while he has fought a majority of his bouts in the United States since then, Belfort said the change of scenery doesn’t worry him too much.

“For me, it’s the same as fighting anywhere; it’s my job that’s what I do. The Octagon is the Octagon,” Belfort said during a UFC 142 media call.

Belfort is widely regarded as one of the most popular fighters in Brazil and he will be making his 15th UFC appearance. He will also look to extend his winning streak after rebounding from a knockout loss from Anderson Silva at UFC 126 to deliver a knockout of his own to Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 133.

This will be the UFC’s second trip to Brazil in five months after hosting UFC 134 last August and the circumstances aren’t all that different to Belfort. Although he was doing media appearances for the event and providing commentary during the broadcast, Belfort is now competing on the upcoming card and he is just grateful to be apart of it.

“It’s a big pleasure to us fighting in our hometown,” he said. “When I started, this sport wasn’t recognized as a sport; we weren’t recognized as athletes. Now we’re athletes, now we’re mainstream. I’m honoured to be competing on this card with these other fighters.”
