The tension between Jon Jones and Rashad Evans has just escalated a few more notches, and to say both fighters share a mutual disliking for one other would be putting it nicely.

Following his win at UFC 135 over Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Jones would learn that his next opponent would be none other than Evans, who was once his former teammate at Greg Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts.

The story couldn’t of been written any better as the former training partners had an ugly fallout prior to Jones’ title bout against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua that resulted in Evans leaving the camp and settling in Boca Raton, Fla. at Imperial Athletics.

Their staredown during a post-fight interview didn’t involve much communication from the two rivals, but there was a clear indication their friendship is as good as gone.

Jones continued to refrain from answering any questions regarding Evans during the post-fight press conference, however after Jackson suggested Evans was the one challenger who could pose as a threat to Jones’ title reign, the 24-year-old felt prompted to share his opinion.

“I will say this about Rashad: he does not have my number, he’s not even close to having my number,” Jones said

Evans has opened up about his training sessions with Jones since their fallout and said he had got the better of “Bones” during sparring on several occasions. However, Jones quickly disputed the idea of Evans’ story and said it had only happened one time.

“Me and Rashad we sparred a few times, and every time we sparred I know what could have happened,” he said.

“He talks about one day at practice where he held me down, and he lives that day in his head everyday. So, we’ll see.”

The bad blood between Jones and Evans is evident and seems very real and the fact that these two competitors share a past together makes for an intriguing title bout when they meet each other sometime next year.

According to UFC President Dana White, the chances of witnessing a super-fight between respective champions Jon Jones and Anderson Silva are very slim.

The out-cry for the matchup escalated further following Jones’ recent title defense against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson this past weekend at UFC 135, and some fans even favoring it over a potential bout between Silva and UFC welterweight champion, Georges St-Pierre.

But White believes Jones still has a lot to accomplish at light heavyweight before there is any talk of a super-fight.

“The problem is this (light heavyweight) division is stacked,” White said during the UFC 135 post-fight press conference.

“He has a lot of fights ahead of him,” he added.

Jones carries a lot of similarities to the Brazilian, which has left fans convinced that the light heavyweight champion would actually be able to compete against Silva, who has remained undefeated since his UFC debut in 2006.

Jones’ recent victories over top competitors like Jackson, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Ryan Bader have led most fans to believe he will continue his dominance over the 205-pound division for awhile, and in turn, enjoy a lengthy title reign.

While fans might not get their wish to see the 24-year-old challenge “The Spider,” there has been talk of Jones moving up to the heavyweight division in the near future.

Jones will make his next title defense against Rashad Evans sometime next year.

The hype surrounding Jon Jones is certainly justified.

And Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, who witnessed it first-hand, is now a firm believer.

Following Jones’ victory over Jackson at UFC 135, the former PRIDE star had nothing but respect and praise for the 24-year-old, who made his first successful title defense. Jackson had trouble finding his range throughout the duration of the bout and struggled against the champion, amounting little to no offense.

“I wasn’t sticking to my game plan like I trained to do. It was frustrating me…Jon’s presence, his reach and stuff, was really hard to deal with,” Jackson said following the bout. “I had guys taller than Jon doing the same thing, sparring with them, but I guess it’s different when you’re sparring and in an actual real fight.”

Although he utilized his range and distance to pick apart his opponent, Jones only managed to take Jackson down on two separate occasions but eventually passed his guard, took his back and applied a rear naked choke to submit the former champion in the fourth round. The loss marked the first time Jackson had been finished during his UFC tenure and his record now stands at 6-3 inside the Octagon and 32-9-0 overall.

Jones’ next title defense will be against rival, Rashad Evans, who Jackson believes is and the only challenger capable of dethroning the young champion.

“I think Rashad is the only person, basically, who has a chance to beat him since Rashad trained with him before,” said Jackson. “So other than Rashad, I don’t see anybody beating this kid, straight up.”

And while the future might look undetermined for Jackson momentarily, Rampage did request for a rematch with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua during his post-fight interview. Rua defeated Jackson at PRIDE Total Elimination 2005.

Steven Seagal Was "More Impressed" with Rampage Jackson Than Jon Jones

Jon Jones successfully defended the light heavyweight title against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 135 and he did it with relative ease. The 24-year-old champion’s performance not only solidified his status among the light heavyweight division, but arguably one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in mixed martial arts.

While the win erased all the doubt regarding Jones’ skills and ability, there were a few who were quick to judge his overall performance, mainly Steven Seagal.

Seagal, who is an occasional attendee at UFC events, gave his opinion on the main event and praised Jones for his dominant win. But Seagal was quick to point out the performance of Jones’ opponent, Jackson, and felt Jackson was more impressive.

“I was more impressed with Rampage,” Seagal said.

“That was the best head movement I have ever seen him do. If he would of let his hands go, that would of been something.”

Seagal added that while Jones’ talent can’t be denied, he believed his performance was underwhelming, to say the least.

Jones’ dominance over the light heavyweight division has continued to grow with three consecutive wins over of some of the sport’s top competitors. His next title defense will come against former teammate, Rashad Evans. Their heated rivalry has been well-documented and Evans will certainly serve as an intriguing opponent, due to their past friendship and time spent together training at Greg Jackson’s MMA

Seagal’s analysis over Jones’ performance could be justified. “Bones,” while he did dictate the entire bout against Jackson, he did not necessarily dominate in the fashion like most fans had thought he would.

Regardless, Jones’ win was impressive and left little doubt that he is the best light heavyweight in the world.

Upon learning of Dan Henderson’s return to the UFC, it was only expected he would receive a big fight, preferably a title bout or a bout that had title implications surrounding it.

And according to Anderson Silva‘s manager, Ed Soares, it appears that a rematch between Silva and Henderson could come to fruition.

“They mentioned it to us,” Soares told Fighthype.com.

“Anderson had a shoulder problem that he actually injured a few weeks before the Okami fight. He wasn’t able to take the fight as quickly as they would have liked him to,” Soares said.

Silva and Henderson previously met three years ago at UFC 82 in a unification bout for the UFC middleweight title.

Silva looked to have his hands full in the opening round as Henderson easily controlled the Brazilian and brought him to the canvas, but Silva would emerge victorious after submitting the former PRIDE star in the second round.

Initially, Henderson requested a middleweight bout with Silva, however when the Brazilian declined, Henderson accused him of being scared. Henderson would agree to face Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 139 instead, leaving an anticipated rematch between the two competitors up in the air momentarily.

Soares pointed to the injury that would have prevented Silva from performing to his ability.

“At this point, he’s 36, about to turn 37, so he has to make sure to nurture those injuries,” he said.

“He has to make sure he is 100 percent healthy every time he goes in there.”

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson looks to add the final touches to the preparation for his title bout against Jon Jones this Saturday night at UFC 135

Jackson, who previously held the light heavyweight title in 2007, is motivated to reclaim the belt and has rededicated himself to training and the grueling schedule that comes along with the sport—something he has voiced his displeasure at in the past.

MMA Heat was given exclusive access to one of Jackson’s training sessions at the MusclePharm facility in Denver, where he has relocated his training camp for the last 12 weeks. He participated in a couple of exercises and looks to be in great physical condition heading into his bout with Jones.

Jackson captured the light heavyweight title after defeating Chuck Liddell in 2007, and then went on to unify the UFC and PRIDE light heavyweight crown against Dan Henderson that same year.

Jackson would lose the belt the following year to Forrest Griffin at UFC 86. Since then, Jackson has gone 4-1 in his last five bouts, with his only loss coming to Rashad Evans at UFC 114.

UFC 135 is live this weekend, from the Pepsi Center in Denver.
