Dustin Pauge vs John Albert

I actually forgot about John Albert and how decent he was on the show. Albert manhandled Pauge with a quick punch that crumpled the kickboxer. Then did a gift wrap where – think head and arm choke – but you grab the wrist from underneath the neck. WHY THIS MOVE ISN’T USED MORE I DON’T KNOW. I used this on my brother for years growing up and I teach my kids this move now. Gift wrap and knee on belly is such a great technique.

Anyways, my picks for the TUF finale, which included the Dodson underdog play.

TJ Dillashaw vs John Dodson

Dillashaw came out using leg kicks and showboating a little bit. Both guys are fast, but Dodson is faster. At first Dodson was staying on the outside and choosing to pick his spots to get to that inner range. Dodson looked in control the entire time imo landing the cleaner more devastating shots. Weak kicks though. To make a long story short Dodson caught TJ clean dropped him and finished with hammer fists. Dodson is very fast and I think will be a champion in the division someday.

Bermudez vs Brandao

Bermundez came to fight and is pressing strong landing punches, and has Brandao circling and backing up. Brandao landed a nice combo that drops Bermudez but he recovers and is back to getting points with decent strikes. Soon after that, Brandao rushes in and Bermudez lands a short right hook that looks like a fight ender. Bermudez follows Brandao to the ground for some GnP and its looking good for Dennis when all of a sudden Brandao locks up an armbar flips him over and hyper extends the arm for the win. It was a very smooth transition. Bermudez though showed that hes a player.

Miller vs Bisping

Imo Miller made Bisping look amazing. It was clear RIGHT from the beginning that Miller had some serious adrenaline dump event. He could barely hold his arms up at the end of round 1 before he mounted Bisping. He clearly had a sloppy technique that looked worse than ever before. Miller said to the corner and to the camera that he got tired. He was ridiculously tired it was obvious. For Bisping the fight was target practice after the first round as Miller won the first round. Bisping is good there is no doubt, but Miller made him look better tonight than it should’ve been. Miller with conditioning would have been a totally different fight tonight.

Ultimate Fighter Finale Bisping vs Miller Predictions

Michael Bisping vs Jason Miller The early MMA odds show the Count is favorite at -200 and Miller at +160. I think the best bet for this fight is that it will go past the first and second round. I also lean towards Miller winning here because of the chance at a submission whereas if

Michael Bisping vs Jason Miller

The early MMA odds show the Count is favorite at -200 and Miller at +160. I think the best bet for this fight is that it will go past the first and second round. I also lean towards Miller winning here because of the chance at a submission whereas if you see this fight as more of a boxing match, Bisping could win on points. Bisping will not be knocking out Miller and Miller most likely will not be knocking out Bisping. Based on styles and their past fights, you have to lean towards this one going to the judges in favor of Bisping or a submission for Miller. Lower odds imo that Miller gets a decision here, but he was able to handle Jaccare in his fight in Pride before getting DQ’d for an errant head kick. That to me tells me Miller’s skills have improved. Lets not forget the last time we saw Jason Miller in the UFC he fought George St Pierre and gave him a fight initially and managed to survive a huge onslaught of elbows that made him a bloody mess.

Miller could get Bisping to the ground and keep there most of the fight and take a decision that way. He also is excellent at minimizing damaging strikes when he on bottom.

I think the odds makers on this fight got it perfect. However, I personally want Miller to win this fight and I think there is a slightly better chance that he could win it than the odds show.

Tony Ferguson vs Yves Edwards

Pretty sure both of these guys just fought like within the last 2 months? Ferguson on Sep 24th, Yeh and Yves last month October 1st. Weird they are putting together this fight so soon, but I guess its because these two ended their last fight so quickly.

Tony has some excellent standup boxing and he overwhelms opponents. Yves obviously has the experience to weather what Tony is brining plus the ground skills to give Tony fits. However, Tony is likely the fighter that is going to end up on top due to his tenacious pressure and excellent takedown game.

I see Tony getting the decision or TKO late. Best bet is this goes beyond round 1.

The Ultimate Fighter Finale Fight

John Dodson vs T.J. Dillashaw

Dodson seems unstoppable. Doesn’t get rocked, doesn’t get taken down, is fast as can be. Dillashaw trains with team Alpha Male and is going to have loads of experience on Dodson. However, I think Dodson is one of those guys that is nearly impossible to beat. Dodson won’t always win, but his skillset and ability make him very difficult to finish. I think the smiling Dodson wins.

Diego Brandao vs Dennis Bermudez

Bermudez had great top game and is longer than Caraway who couldn’t take down Brandao. Diego seems ultra-determined though unlike many a fighter I’ve seen before. He is going to be hard to finish. I gotta think Diego here. Bermudez needs to take Brandao down to nullify his power. Its going to be a tough task and when that takedown plan fails, look out for the TKO.

Lightweight Championship bout: Eddie Alvarez (c) vs Michael Chandler

Can’t go against Alvarez. Chandler is an excellent fighter though. Reminds of Jake Ellenberger. Chandler is a very good fighter with all around skills, just lacking everything against Alvarez though. If the odds are totally outrageous, then Chandler wouldn’t be the worst upset play. Thinking Alvarez via decision.

Alvarez is -260 and Chandler is +200 at Intertops, so the odds aren’t terrible here. Says a lot about Chandler’s skills.

Catchweight (95lb) bout: Hector Lombard vs Trevor Prangley

Hector Lombard definitely will win, but if you like playing upsets, the odds are probably ridiculously one sided for this one. Prangley though can take a punch. However, thinking Lombard via TKO.

Yep Lombard is -800 and Prangley is +500 at Intertops

Featherweight bout: Marlon Sandro vs Rafael Dias

Marlon Sandro 3rd round TKO.

Sandro is -450 and Dias is +320 at Intertops

Bellator 58 Undercard

Middleweight bout: Brett Cooper vs Jared Hess

I lean towards Cooper. He became famous by KO’ing IFL star Rory Markham as a replacement fighter back in 2007. Hess also tasted success as a champion in a 3rd tier fight promotion. This fight should be excellent. If Cooper can’t finish Hess could probably win on points. I think Cooper has a shot though.

UFC 139 Main Card

Light Heavyweight bout: MaurĂcio Rua vs Dan Henderson

Henderson has been an absolute crusher who has only two losses in a long time – Anderson Silva and Jake Shields (who he was beating him until he got tired). Known for being a KO artist Henderson has the chin, wrestling, and power to beat Rua. Mauricio however, has awesome leg kicks, punches hard himself, and has great escapes on the ground. So if Henderson lands on top, Henderson probably won’t be able to control Rua like he does everyone else. They both have questionable 3 even 5 round cardio, Rua is probably the better of the two. Rua could easily build up points with leg kicks against Dan. Rua is rather terrible in the clinch with his back against the cage and with Henderson likely to utilize fence work you can expect Henderson to be taking Rua down, a lot. The only way I see this going Rua’s favor is by winning by TKO or KO. With Dan’s chin its not likely. I like Dan Henderson to win this one he’s just on such a hot streak right now and Rua is probably still nursing his injuries pre-Jones fight.

Middleweight bout: Wanderlei Silva vs Cung Le

Both guys probably have the same reach, but the speed and output of Cung Le is going to be the difference. Wanderlei has not seen a striker like Cung Le ever. A guy who likes to stand like Wanderlei is going to have problems against a specialist like Cung Le. Yes Wanderlei is also a specialist in stand up battles, but Cung Le has a better strike repertoire.

Guessing the odds are going to be close. When it comes to KO power, Silva has it, and Le is more of an attrition fighter. Le also got KO’d by Scott Smith after Le OWNED Smith for 2 rounds. See the fight here if you missed it.

So add up that Silva has similar KO power as Scott Smith, better ground game, more experience, is faster, and is a monster finisher. Therefore depending on the spread, if its large, take Silva, if close take Cung Le.

Bantamweight bout: Urijah Faber vs Brian Bowles

The odds are heavily favoried for Urijah Faber in this one. There is no doubt Faber will have more output of punches and kicks and is not likely getting finished by Bowles. However, Bowles is a former champion himself and hits hard. Is there a chance Bowles knocks out Faber? Odds are slim, but if you wanted to take a big dog this one would be it.

Welterweight bout: Martin Kampmann vs Rick Story

I like Rick Story here. I like watching and rooting for Kampmann all the time, but I think Story’s style presents a problem for Kampmann. Story is going to clinch and wrestle and that style is bad for someone like Kampmann who wants to pop pop kick against Story.

Light Heavyweight bout: Stephan Bonnar vs Kyle Kingsbury

Bonnar – this fight could be awesome.

UFC 139 Preliminary card (televised)

Light Heavyweight bout: Ryan Bader vs Jason Brilz

Brilz is a boring fighter, but finds the most shockingly vanilla ways to win. I like Bader in this one because hes faster, but don’t be surprised if Brilz wins by North South Choke from the bottom.

Middleweight bout: Tom Lawlor vs Chris Weidman

Weidman is a rising star. Both guys are wrestlers and Lawlor has proved me wrong more than once. Weidman doesn’t have the experience, but he does some smart things in the cage. Curious to see the odds on this one. Lawlor is a big step up in competition, but I think Weidman wins via top control and rides the decision.

Bantamweight bout: Michael McDonald vs Alex Soto

Lightweight bout: Gleison Tibau vs Rafael dos Anjos

Depends which Gelison shows up. Rafael is faster and more technical everywhere. Tibau is better in the clinch, when he is on top, and is more powerful. Tibau is likely favored, but I’m going with dos Anjos.

Bantamweight bout: Miguel Torres vs Nick Pace

Interesting fight. At one point Torres was one of the most highly regarded fighters in the division and beyond. Still like him here.

Welterweight bout: Matt Brown vs Seth Baczynski

Matt Brown because he’s immortal.

Lightweight bout: Shamar Bailey vs Danny Castillo

Shamar Bailey via wrestling decision.
