It’s UFC 158 fight week, and while the anticipation of the main event between Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz continues to grow, sometimes it can be good to sit back and have a good laugh.

This time, we’ll have the laugh at the champion’s expense. Shh! Don’t tell him.

A native of Quebec, Canada, St-Pierre’s first language is French, and that has certainly shown from time to time as he has struggled to get a grasp on the English language.

Certainly we have to give him credit as he has come a long way since his first days in the UFC, but many of us will always remember the hilarious comments that he has made throughout the years.

With all of the media surrounding this huge welterweight title fight, we have to assume that there will be more chuckle-worthy moments, but here are five of the funniest quotes GSP has made since coming to the UFC.

GSP Chooses Weidman over Silva at UFC 162: True Prediction or Wishful Thinking?

UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre has a prediction for the UFC 162 main event—and it’s probably going to turn some heads.

“My friend Chris Weidman, when I see him in training, I believe he’s going to beat Anderson Silva,” GSP told Sportsnet. “I believe it’s a bad matchup for Anderson Silva. It’s very bad.”

The champion went on to explain that he not only believes in his training partner’s ability to win the fight, but that he doesn’t really think it’s even going to be a very close fight.

“Not only is he going to beat, I believe he’s going to finish Anderson Silva,” St-Pierre said. “I believe it’s not going to be too long, that fight. People will be shocked.”

A champion in his own right, St-Pierre certainly knows a good thing when he sees it. But is his assertion that the longtime pound-for-pound king of the sport gets finished an actual prediction or is it more of a case of wishful thinking?

Weidman has never been beaten in his MMA career and at 9-0 certainly presents a combination of skills that could cause problems for “The Spider.” But we’ve heard this all before. Many, many times before.

There’s a reason that Anderson Silva is considered the greatest MMA fighter on the planet today and that most would agree he is the best to ever compete in the sport. Just when everyone seems to think he has a weakness, he comes out with an emphatic, crushing victory over the top contender who is supposed to give him the biggest challenge of his career.

Silva is nearing the seven-year mark as an unbeaten fighter. And it has been over eight years since something that one of his opponents did actually ended in Silva losing.

So GSP can’t actually believe that this is going to be such an easy fight for Weidman, can he?

Perhaps St-Pierre is just hoping that someone will finally knock Silva off the top of the mountain. After all, Silva losing would likely push St-Pierre up to the No. 2 or even No. 1 ranking on the Official UFC Pound-for-Pound list.

Not only that, but similar to Manny Pacquiao’s loss in the boxing ring in 2012, an Anderson Silva loss would finally put to rest any discussion of a “superfight” with Anderson Silva.

For St-Pierre, that weight being lifted off of his shoulders would be a massive relief. Certainly no one would expect him to move up to 185 to fight anyone else, so GSP could simply continue to focus on dominating at 170 without fear of persecution from unruly MMA fans.

And hey, it’s hard to blame him if he’s really hoping for a Silva loss. It’s good to be king.

And hey, it’s hard to blame him if he really is simply hoping for a Silva loss. Why put added pressure on yourself to move up? It’s good to be king and St-Pierre would be just that.

UFC Lightweight Champion Benson Henderson Supports Increased Drug Testing in MMA

UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson has long been respected as one of the “clean” fighters in the sport. He has now also come out as a supporter of increased testing for performance enhancing drugs within the sport.

“I’d be for increased testing,” Henderson recently said in an interview. “It keeps the playing field even. It makes it so guys have to do a better job of either hiding it, or just not taking it.”

And he may have hit the nail on the head with the “hiding it” idea. Numerous fighters have admitted to taking other drugs that stay in the system fairly long, such as marijuana, and still passed tests prior to and after their fights. With performance enhancers such as testosterone replacement therapy or steroids, the symptoms can be a little harder to spot, especially if the fighter knows the test is coming.

“I think a lot of guys would actually just do a better job of hiding,” Henderson said. “Like guys in the NFL, some get busted, but the guys who get busted are just the, not very intelligent ones, because it’s not the hardest thing just to time it correctly to where you don’t get caught whenever you get tested.”

As a clean fighter and a reigning UFC champion, it behooves Henderson to advocate cleaning up the sport in order to keep things on a level playing field, especially when it comes to championship bouts.

“I’d be for more rigorous testing,” he said. “They want the blood doping testing? We can do that, too. I’m cool with that. Random testing? I’d be for that.”

Henderson recently went after PED users at a recent UFC press conference, proclaiming they are “mentally weak” if they have to resort to artificial ways to keep their body in top condition. He took some flack for that assessment, but doesn’t appear to be ready to back down from those comments.

“Those guys who need a little extra bump, a little extra edge, they know it’s illegal. They know they shouldn’t be doing it. Those guys are mentally weaker,” he said. “But it’s still not going to pan out for you in the long run, because I’m still going to beat you.”

Henderson’s next fight is expected to be against former Strikeforce lightweight champion and UFC newcomer Gilbert Melendez at UFC on FOX 7 on April 20.

The UFC 160 fight card just got a whole lot stronger with the addition of two of the hardest-hitting heavyweights in the world as Mark Hunt will square off against former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos.

According to MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani, the fight was put together on Thursday evening and officially announced on Saturday morning.

Dos Santos vs. Hunt will take place on May 25th’s UFC 160 fight card, replacing what was originally a bout between dos Santos and former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem. A groin injury caused Overeem to be physically unable to fight, clearing the path for Hunt in what might be the biggest opportunity of his MMA career.

Fans are pumped for this fight and rightfully so. Here are five of the biggest reasons fans are looking forward to dos Santos vs. Hunt.

UFC 162’s main event has now been set as UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva will defend his title against Chris Weidman in what should be a very interesting battle of styles.

It was seven months ago that a bout between these two seemed unlikely despite a relative lack of viable contenders in the division. Weidman was coming off of an unbelievable beatdown on fellow top contender Mark Munoz, but many fans simply didn’t know who he was. With only two wins over top-25 opponents, even Silva himself didn’t believe that Weidman was ready

In fact, Silva went as far as to take a “superfight” in the light heavyweight division against Stephan Bonnar before he even considered fighting Weidman

Silva, the UFC’s longtime reigning pound-for-pound champion, will be 38 years old next month and might only have a handful of fights left in him. While it’s true that he signed a 10-fight deal with the promotion in December, he may decide at any time that he’s had enough.

With that in mind and the Weidman fight already on the books, let’s take a look at four rumored opponents and where they stack up against the top fighter in the world.
