Day of Reckoning: Fight Night

Undefeated pound-for-pound standout Dmitry Bivol looked as sharp as ever earlier today (Sat., June 1, 2024) at Queensberry vs. Matchroom 5v5 LIVE on DAZN pay-per-view (PPV) from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, stopping replacement challenger, Malik Zinad with a blistering sixth-round TKO.

Bivol, who came into this fight with a 22-0 record and the WBA light heavyweight title, was expected to meet undefeated WBC, IBF, and WBO champion, Artur Beterbiev, for the undisputed crown. It was going to be a huge fight on one of the biggest boxing cards of the year. Unfortunately, Beterbiev suffered a ruptured meniscus during camp and was forced to withdraw.

Zinad, who was also 22-0 in his professional career coming into tonight, didn’t really stand a chance in his fight. He was a massive betting underdog and fighting one of the most precise punchers in all of boxing. Remember, Bivol out-struck Canelo Alvarez over the course of 12 rounds just two years ago. The writing was on the wall before this fight even started.

After scoring a crisp knockdown in the first round, Bivol followed his efforts up with a barrage of punches in the sixth round that had Zinad on the ropes. Zinad eventually backpedaled into the corner where Bivol put the finishing touches on another memorable performance.

UFC 293: Adesanya v Strickland

Sean Strickland will be competing for the first time since losing his UFC middleweight title earlier this year when he meets Paulo Costa in an anticipated co-main event later tonight (Sat., June 1, 2024) at UFC 302 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

In case you forgot, Strickland was the undisputed UFC middleweight king to begin the new year. The outspoken fighter had pulled off a huge upset win over Israel Adesanya back at UFC 293 in Sept. 2023 to claim the title. Strickland was a massive betting underdog for that fight in Australia, but still outclassed “Last Stylebender” on the feet to deliver a career-defining performance.

Of course, Strickland ended up coughing up the 185-pound title to Dricus du Plessis when the two met back at UFC 297 this past January. It was a close fight to say the least, but DDP ultimately walked away with the split-decision win. Now Strickland is trying to right the ship heading into the second half of 2024 with an impressive performance against Costa this weekend at UFC 302.

Ahead of Strickland’s return to action, UFC has released his entire five-round title fight against Adesanya from UFC 293. Check it out in the above video player and let us know if Strickland can repeat his offensive dominance against the power punching of Costa.

Belal Muhammad believes Islam Makhachev could 'Skip over 170' and 'Beat Dricus Du Plessis right Now'

Screw 170, Belal Muhammad thinks Islam Makhachev could jump straight up to middleweight if he wants to add a second strap to his collection.

As Makhachev steps into the Octagon for his third defense of the lightweight world title at UFC 302, Muhammad is preparing to embark on his own journey toward UFC gold. On July 27, ‘Remember The Name’ will head to Manchester for a clash with current welterweight champ Leon Edwards.

Belal Muhammad

Though Makhachev is focused on getting past Poirier on Saturday (June 1), the ‘Dagestani Destroyer’ has openly spoken of his desire to challenge for the welterweight title in a bid to become a two-division champion. Should he dispatch ‘The Diamond’ in The Garden State, that could very well be his next step.

That could leave Belal Muhammad feeling a little uneasy as he prepares to compete for the 170-pound crown. However,’ Remember The Name’ rest easy knowing that even if he’s successful in his first title bid at UFC 304, Makhachev’s path to champ-champ status won’t go through him.

Belal Muhammad

“I would never fight him, 100 percent,” Muhammad told MMA Fighting. “But honestly, he could go up to 185 and beat [Dricus] du Plessis right now. I think he’s that good, really. I think he could go up there and be that two-division champ. Skip over 170 for a little bit, let me beat a couple of these younger guys, and then I’ll go up to 185.”

Belal Muhammad believes makhachev will be dominating for years to come

Unlike his mentor, Khabib Nurmagomedov, who bailed after just three lightweight title defenses, Islam Mahhachev plans on becoming the most dominant champion in the history of the sport — a task Belal Muhammad truly believes the Dagestani can achieve in due time.

“He has plenty of time,” Muhammad said of Makhachev. “He’s dominating his fights. He’s winning easily. I think he’s going to continue on that path of just being a dominant champion. He’s got plenty of years left. He said something about it recently in an interview, saying, ‘I’m still hungry, I’m still here.’ So he’s got a long time to go.”
