Jon Jones and Dominick Reyes will have to agree to disagree on the result of their infamous UFC 247 clash in February 2020.

The last fight for Jones in the Light Heavyweight division was arguably his most controversial. “Bones” battled to a decision against Reyes in Houston, Texas, winning via a unanimous decision that many believed should have gone the other way.

Reyes, 34, picked up his first victory since he defeated Chris Weidman in 2019 when he knocked out Dustin Jacoby (watch highlights) at UFC Louisville this past weekend (June 8, 2024). Now UFC’s Heavyweight champion, Jones caught wind of some recent comments Reyes made about their fight and how he still feels he won, and that Jones knows it, he publicly let it be known that he wasn’t flattered.

“What a claim to fame, almost beat John Jones,” Jones tweeted. “Got full of myself and literally couldn’t win another fight.

“Dominic, when you look back at our fight, I don’t want you to ever question me or those judges,” he added. “Look at your own heart, your own endurance, you didn’t do enough. The sooner you accept that, the better athlete you’ll become.”

Jones has only fought once since his move to Heavyweight when he won the vacant title against Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 in March 2023 (watch highlights). Reyes has claimed over the years that an instant rematch was offered to Jones but he ultimately declined to pursue Heavyweight. His first title defense is expected to be against Stipe Miocic in November 2024.

“Now I vacated because everyone wanted the rematch?” Jones tweeted. “I love you guys with your narratives. I poke people in the eyes, my arms are longer, I’m bigger than everyone else, I must pay the judge, i’m ducking, no one‘s in their prime when they fight me. Keep em coming.”

Anatoly Malykhin welcomes clash with Francis Ngannou, but ONE Championship's CEO is not interested

Despite being MMA’s first simultaneous three-division world champion Anatoly Malykhin is far from being a household name in the world of combat sports. However, a scrap with former UFC titleholder Francis Ngannou could change that.

Boasting an impressive 14-0 record with a 100% finish rate, ‘Sladkiy’ has established himself as one of ONE Championship’s most formidable foes across three different divisions. Starting with capturing the interim heavyweight belt, Malykhin inevitably traded in his temporary title for undisputed gold against the division’s former king, Arjan Bhullar—but not before becoming a two-division champion with a highlight-reel knockout of Reinier de Ridder to claim the light heavyweight title.

Determined to etch his name in the history books, Malykhin dropped down two weight classes, challenging de Ridder for the middleweight title at ONE 166 in Qatar. Though it took him a little bit longer the second time around, the result was the same. Malykhin finished ‘The Dutch Knight’ in round three to claim his third strap.

During a recent interview with MMA Fighting, Malykhin addressed a potential matchup with Ngannou, suggesting that he could be “a big problem” for the former UFC-turned-PFL superstar.

“I can say that my strong points are that I move better than him and also I do great body shots,” Malykhin said through an interpreter. “I think me on my feet would be a big problem for him.”

ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong has little interest in seeing Anatoly Malykhin fight Francis Ngannou

A fight between Anatoly Malykhin and Francis Ngannou would be a huge opportunity for the 13-year-old promotion as it continues to fight for its piece of the pie in the U.S. market, but ONE Championship’s founder and CEO, Chatri Sityodtong, doesn’t appear to be terribly interested in the heavyweight superfight.

Anatoly Malykhin

Commenting on the potential showdown, Sityodtong made it clear that the hurdles of a cross-promotion with PFL are not the issue. It’s that he simply doesn’t believe Ngannou would be much of a challenge for his three-division star.

“I don’t think it would be competitive,” Sityodtong told MMA Fighting. “Francis has one-punch KO power, great striking, but he doesn’t have a ground game. I mean, genuinely [he has] blue belt level jiu-jitsu and no wrestling. Anatoly would take him down in a heartbeat. I don’t think it would be competitive, just to be very blunt, and I’m speaking as a lifelong martial artist. I’m trying to be as objective as possible, and I’ve been doing 40 years of Muay Thai and 15 years of jiu-jitsu. I’m just speaking from personal experience and I’m trying to be objective.

“We all know in all the different weight classes, wrestling is the one discipline that allows you to dictate where the fight takes place. If a wrestler wants to keep it standing, he keeps it standing. If he wants to take you down or she wants to take you down, they’ll take you down, especially a world-class wrestler — a Russian national team wrestler like Anatoly Malykhin. [But] we’ve always been open [to cross promotion].”

Before signing with the Professional Fighters League, Ngannou met with Sityodtong to work out a potential deal. ONE ultimately walked away from the negotiating table with the CEO noting that he and ‘The Predator’ were not fully aligned on “non-financial matters.”

Considering it’s been more than a year since Ngannou signed with the PFL and he has yet to make his Smart Cage debut, it kinda feels like Sityodtong made the right move.

Jamahal Hill believed his UFC 300 fight against Alex Pereira was a mismatch.

Turns out he was right, thanks to a first-round finish from “Poatan” back in early April. So why is “Sweet Dreams” suddenly ranting about his “Sin City” performance, now roughly two months removed from the promotion’s landmark event?

Pereira is just as confused as everyone else.

“To be honest, I don’t get why he’s doing this so late,” Pereira told Fox Sports Australia. “It’s been almost two months. People usually do that right away, but maybe he just woke up from the knockout. It’s kind of like you harvest what you seed. During Glover’s fight, he was respectful. Glover, he got respect at the end. With us, he was a bit more disrespectful, so he got what he put on.”

Hill was even smack-talking Pereira fans ahead of UFC 300.

“Funny, only one of us had been knocked unconscious needing oxygen and multiple people’s help to wake with your toes curled!!” Hill responded on Instagram. “Don’t worry l’II remind you of that feeling again very soon!!!”

Perhaps Hill should shift his attention to Carlos Ulberg, who fights “Sweet Dreams” in the UFC 303 co-main event later this month in Las Vegas. Ulberg is the winner of six straight with five finishes — four within the first round.

Replacement fights floated again for Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler at UFC 303 there's pessimism

Despite the promotion of a UFC 303 main event featuring both Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler over the course of the weekend at the promotion’s return to Louisville, Kentucky, reports tonight have now claimed there is a sense of renewed “pessimism” for the bout between the two to take place as planned on June 29.

As per an initial report from Ariel Helwani, the organization have once more floated potential replacement and a new fight – or fights for the UFC 303 main event, with Conor McGregor’s ability to compete against Michael Chandler during International Fight Week once more called into question.

Renewed pessimism Conor McGregor faces Michael Chandler at UFC 303

“Latest on UFC 303:” Helwani posted on his official X account. “Around this time last weke, all the anxiety surrounding the UFC 303 main event seemed to dissipate. By Wednesday, no more feelers about replacements were being sent out. All systems seemed to be a go (again). Later in the week, Chandler did an interview with The Pivot about it being all good, and on Saturday UFC was promoting it again on the ABC fight night telecast. There was a scare about the fight being off and the scare appeared to be no more.”

“But since this morning, multiple sources are now saying feelers are being sent out again for June 29. for a replacement and/or new fight(s). In short, there seems to be pessimism all over again regarding the status of the 303 main event. Actually even more pessimism – it seems – than on Monday last week after the presser was cancelled at the last minute.”

“Is this insurance? Due diligence? Emergency replacement mode? Remains to be seen. It’s all developing (again). But it doesn’t appear as though we are out of the woods either way just yet. More to come, and hopefully a definitive answer one way or the other in the short order.”

Jamahal Hill vows to KO rival Alex Pereira in fight rematch I will remind you of that feeling again very soon

Yet to give up the ghost on his rivalry with incumbent light heavyweight champion, Alex Pereira two months on from his brutal first round knockout loss to the Brazilian, former titleholder, Jamahal Hill has vowed to finish the Brazilian with strikes in a future rematch.

Hill, the current number three ranked contender at 205lbs, has been sidelined since he headlined UFC 300 back in April, dropping a devastating opening round knockout defeat to former two-weight champion, Pereira.

And booked to return already, Dana White’s Contender Series alum, Hill is set to co-headline UFC 303 at the end of this month during International Fight Week, taking on streaking Kiwi finisher, Carlos Ulberg

Receiving the wrath of Pereira earlier this week after he hit out at the light heavyweight champion for his now-viral celebration over him at UFC 300, Hill was met with another brash tirade from the Sao Paulo favorite.
