After likely losing the first round on the scorecards, Pat Curran needed to make something happen in the later rounds of his featherweight tournament final bout against Marlon Sandro at Bellator 48. With a title shot on the line, Curran did just that by knocking Sandro unconscious with a perfectly-timed head kick.

The win made Curran the first Bellator fighter to ever win tournaments in more than one weight division. Now, Curran will prepare for a title fight against Bellator featherweight champion Joe Warren.

In an exciting night of fights, Bellator 48 also saw Seth Petruzelli end former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez’s 12-fight winning streak with an exciting knockout of his own.

In addition, Bellator heavyweight champion Cole Konrad ensured that the organization’s title holders remained undefeated in superfights by showing improved striking in his fight against Paul Buentello.

The event concluded the Bellator 2011 Summer Series. Bellator Season 5 will kick off with the opening round of a welterweight tournament on Sept. 10.
