People love to talk about Chael Sonnen.

They talk about the ridiculous things he says, how inflammatory he is and how compelling his matchup with Anderson Silva will be.

What people are not talking about, however, is how great he is in the grand scheme of things.  It is surprising too, because people love talking about that stuff in MMA.

In the past few years, Chael Sonnen has absolutely dominated three top 10-ranked middleweights in Yushin Okami, Nate Marquardt and Brian Stann.

You know who the only other people who can claim that kind of divisional dominance are? Anderson Silva, Georges St. Pierre, and now Jon Jones.

Of course, Sonnen could get all the vindication he needs should he eventually be able to topple Silva in a rematch of their epic 2010 encounter, but his name needs to be in the history books regardless.

Marquardt and Okami are two of the greatest middleweights of all time, and Sonnen threw them around.

Anderson Silva is the greatest fighter that mixed martial arts has ever seen and Sonnen battered him for four and a half rounds before getting submitted in a hail mary.

Not only is Chael Sonnen the No. 2 middleweight in the world—he has rapidly been establishing himself as the second best middleweight of all time.

Don’t let his antics distract you from his fighting.
