Anderson Silva may have to drop to welterweight if he ever hopes to face Georges St-Pierre.

The UFC welterweight champ continued to deflect questions about a potential super fight with Silva during an interview with MMAWeekly on Monday. His focus is on his upcoming title bout with Carlos Condit, not a proposed super fight with the middleweight kingpin.

“I’m not focusing on that. I’m not speculating,” said St-Pierre. “I’m thinking about Condit right now; that’s what I should do.”

The often talked-about Silva vs. St-Pierre super fight made headlines recently due to comments made by UFC President Dana White in an interview with Ariel Helwani on Fuel TV’s UFC Tonight.

White hinted at the fight being on deck, depending on the outcome of St-Pierre vs. Condit. He even named Cowboy Stadium in Dallas, Texas as the possible venue for what would surely be the biggest fight in UFC history.

Silva, who has destroyed every marquee name in the UFC middleweight division, would even consider taking the fight at a catchweight of 180 pounds, according to White.

Still, St-Pierre doesn’t appear to be overly interested in moving up in weight. He is just returning from a torn ACL, and the complexity of the welterweight division has changed for the better. There are a plethora of fresh contenders waiting in the wings for a crack at St-Pierre, including Nick Diaz, Johny Hendricks, Martin Kampmann, Jake Ellenberger, Nate Marquardt and Demian Maia.

Faced with new challenges, St-Pierre is eager to make his UFC return and reconquer one of the most stacked divisions in all of MMA.

“It’s a lot of fun, you know, there’s a lot of new challenges,” said St-Pierre. “I’m very happy to be back. It’s a new thing, and it’s actually pretty cool, and I feel a lot more motivation right now.”

St-Pierre continues:

“I feel like I have a lot of guys that are there, and I don’t understand why people are going crazy now, but I just came back from an injury, so maybe some people see me as a weak link. We’ll see what’s going to happen in the future.”

Silva turns 38 next April.

There may not be much future left.
