Junior Dos Santos believes Alistair Overeem has enlisted in the Chael Sonnen school of trash talking.
In an interview with MMAJunkie, Overeem said he felt the UFC heavyweight champ was “afraid” to fight him. He believes the only option for Dos Santos is to “hit and run” or get knocked out.
Dos Santos was on-hand at UFC on Fuel 4, where he shared his thoughts with Ariel Helwani about the strong comments made by Overeem.
“I’m afraid? This guy, man, the school of Chael Sonnen has more students because this guy is starting to talk a lot of s**t. He saw the UFC give Chael Sonnen a chance to fight Anderson [Silva] again, but I’m not afraid of him.
I’m not afraid of anybody here. If he thinks he’s better than me, come to fight with me, and soon he’ll feel the power of my hands. He’s gonna change his mind.”
Many believe Sonnen’s mouth earned him a rematch with UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva, and Dos Santos believes Overeem is trying to follow suit.
Dos Santos and Overeem are widely regarded as the most feared strikers in the heavyweight division. A bout between the two would provide enough fireworks to light up an entire city.
With that said, there is a major road block named Cain Velasquez standing in the way of the potential heavyweight super fight.
Dos Santos is slated to defend his UFC title against Velasquez later this year.
