UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and No. 1 contender Chael Sonnen may not be the best of friends, but that didn’t mean they couldn’t put their differences aside to enjoy Thanksgiving together.
A photo posted on the UFC’s official Facebook page on Thanksgiving showed Sonnen and Jones, the head coaches for the next season of The Ultimate Fighter, getting ready to indulge in a succulent turkey.
Despite the months of trash talk between the two, which heated up after “Bones” refused to fight Sonnen on eight days notice at UFC 151, it appears the bad blood has died down a bit.
As a matter of fact, last month the champion even referred to “The American Gangster” as “a pretty decent human.”
Whether or not the two 205-pounders like each other, they will face off in the Octagon on April 27 at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
Jones looks to tie the light heavyweight record, set by Tito Ortiz, of five consecutive title defenses, while Sonnen looks to rebound from a second failed title bid against UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 148 in July.
Sonnen has won five of his past seven fights, with both losses being against Silva, while Jones has rarely been tested in the midst of an eight-fight winning streak.
Will the TUF series be reinvigorated by the back-and-forth banter between Sonnen and Jones, or will this just be another season that failed to live up to the hype?
