A pivotal contest in the UFC’s 185-pound title picture is now set to go down from Buffalo, New York at UFC 210.

The UFC has announced that former UFC middleweight champ and current No. 4-ranked Chris Weidman will take on No. 5-ranked Gegard Mousasi in Buffalo’s KeyBank Center:

Weidman comes into the bout on a two-fight losing skid after having his undefeated career winning streak snapped by Luke Rockhold at UFC 194 in December of 2015, followed by a flying knee knockout loss to Yoel Romero at UFC 205 from the Madison Square Garden Arena. With a win over Mousasi, ‘The All American’ hopes to once again step into the Octagon for the opportunity to reign as the middleweight champion of the world.

Mousasi is currently on a four-fight win streak over names such as Thales Leites, Thiago Santos, Vitor Belfort, and most recently Uriah Hall. The Dutchman’s last three victories have all come via knockout, as the former Strikeforce champ continues to impress on his quest to UFC championship glory.

UFC 210 will go down live on PPV from the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York on Saturday April 8, 2017.

Mixed martial arts (MMA) fans currently await the next match-up for UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping, but it appears they’ll have to wait just a little bit longer.

Per a report from John Pollock, the UFC’s 185-pound champ will be out-of-action until May after being notified that he will require surgery to repair a torn meniscus. No information was given on when exactly the injury was suffered:

Bisping is currently on a five-fight win streak which includes a unanimous decision win over former 185-pound king Anderson Silva. The victory over ‘The Spider’ earned the Englishman the right to step in for an injured Chris Weidman to challenge for the middleweight strap, and he would go on to knockout Luke Rockhold in the first round to win his first career UFC title at UFC 199 this past June.

‘The Count’ followed up his spectacular performance with a successful title defense against Dan Henderson at UFC 204 in October, earning a unanimous decision victory in his home-country of England.

Current No. 1-ranked middleweight Yoel Romero has emerged as the prime candidate to challenge Bisping for the title next, after downing the former champ Weidman at UFC 205 from Madison Square Garden in New York City with a grizzly flying knee knockout in the third round. ‘The Soldier Of God’ currently rides an eight-fight win streak with victories over names such as Derek Brunson, Tim Kennedy, Lyoto Machida, Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza, and now Weidman.

Given Bisping’s injury, however, the 39-year-old Romero will appear to have to wait until near mid-year for his opportunity at 185-pound gold.

Reminder: Bellator 170 Pre-Fight Press Conference Live at 3 p.m. ET

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7X6371BDb7g&feature=youtu.be

Bellator 170 comes to us this Saturday night (Jan. 21) from The Forum in Inglewood, California. Bellator is rolling out the final pre-fight conference before the event takes place. The conference will be held today (Jan. 19) and it’ll begin at 3 p.m. ET.

The main event of Bellator 170 will feature a grudge match between from Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight title holder Tito Ortiz and Chael Sonnen. “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” has claimed this will be his final fight.

Welterweights will collide in the co-main event. Former middleweight title challenger Brennan Ward will go to war with former UFC, Strikeforce, EliteXC, and BAMMA veteran Paul Daley. Ward has said he and “Semtex” are one of the few “old-school guys” in mixed martial arts (MMA). If the bout lives up to the hype, we could be looking at an early “Fight of the Year” candidate.

Middleweight action will also be showcased on the main card. Knockout artist Hisaki Kato will welcome Ralek Gracie back to MMA competition. Gracie’s last MMA fight was in May 2010. Kato doesn’t have any particular feeling when it comes to fighting someone from the Gracie family. It should go without saying, but many believe this bout will end in either a knockout or submission.

Bellator 170’s main card has a featherweight contest as well. The two 145-pounders are Georgi Karakhanyan and Emmanuel Sanchez. Karakhanyan is a seasoned veteran who has had 33 professional MMA bouts. Sanchez will do battle for the 17th time in his career. He has won three of his last four bouts and all of them have resulted in a split decision.

Lightweights Derek Campos and Derek Anderson are expected to get the main card started. After losing three of his last four bouts, Campos stunned Melvin Guillard with a second round knockout. He followed that up with a unanimous decision over Djamil Chan. Anderson will also be looking to extend his winning streak to three. He defeated Patricky Freire and Saad Awad in his last two outings.

The main card of Bellator 170 will air at 9 p.m. ET on Spike.

The heat between UFC lightweight champ Conor McGregor and boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. continues to build up ahead of their rumored boxing match superfight.

The two men have repeatedly exchanged barbs at one another through the media, and what once started out as nothing more than playful trash-talk between the two combat sports stars has now sparked the legitimate possibility of the fight coming to fruition. Mayweather has asked for a $100 million price tag to step into the squared circle with the heavy-handed Irish champ, unwilling to give McGregor more than a $25 million payday.

UFC President Dana White responded to Mayweather’s offer by countering with a ‘real offer’ of $25 million each in addition to splitting pay-per-view (PPV) revenue. Both sides continue to banter over who is the ‘A side’ when it comes to finances, leading ‘Money’ to fire his latest shot at ‘The Notorious One’s’ bank account.

Mayweather took to Twitter to post a picture comparing he and his Irish adversary’s net worth:

“Before you ask for $25M, be worth more than $25M. You have the “2” and the “5” right but you meant to say $2.5M not $25M.”

The boxing discussions have extended beyond McGregor vs. Mayweather talk, however, as it was announced that UFC lightweight Nate Diaz is also closing in on getting a boxing license in Nevada, coming just shortly after McGregor acquired his in California.

What do you think all of this could mean? Is Diaz considering a career switch? Where does he stand in the McGregor vs. Mayweather talk? And will the bout between ‘Mystic Mac’ and ‘Money’ ever see the light of day?

Kelvin Gastelum Will Only Take No. 1 Contender Fight With Win Over Vitor Belfort

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ey4Qwpmstas

Kelvin Gastelum is coming off arguably the most impressive performance of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career. After hitting a low point by having his UFC 205 bout canceled due to reoccurring weight cutting issues, Gastelum fought like a man on a mission.

The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season 17 middleweight winner met Tim Kennedy at UFC 206 in Toronto. Gastelum decimated his opponent and earned a third round TKO win.

The Mexican warrior recently spoke with MMAFighting.com. While Gastelum said he isn’t opposed to staying at 185 pounds, he still believes the 170-pound mark fits his frame the best:

“I’m not against (staying at 185), but I feel like welterweight is my optimal weight class. But I’m not against staying at 185. What I want is the No. 1 contender fight after this fight, whether it’s at middleweight or at welterweight. I want to fight for the No. 1 contender so I might get my title shot. But it doesn’t matter if I’m at middleweight or welterweight, I just want to fight the No. 1 contender.”

Gastelum’s next fight will be against Vitor Belfort. The two will share the Octagon on March 11 in Fortaleza, Brazil. Gastelum acknowledged “The Phenom’s” experience and how accustomed he’s gotten to being under the bright lights.

“He’s dangerous. He’s a very, very dangerous fighter. He’s been fighting for over 20 years. That’s something to respect. He’s been up, he’s been down, he’s been up again, he’s been down again. Right now, his last few fights haven’t gone his way, but he’s been in this position before so I’m not counting him out at all. I feel like he’s been in this position before, he’s been fighting for 20 years, so he should feel very comfortable coming into his fight.”

If Gastelum beats Belfort, it would certainly see him move up at least one spot in the middleweight rankings. That’s not enough for him, however, and he has claimed he won’t settle for anything less than a number one contender bout.

“That’s the only fight I’m willing to take. I’m not gonna take any other fight other than the number one contender fight.”

Tyron Woodley’s road to UFC glory started back in February 2013. Knocking out Jay Heiron with a brutal flurry of punches, the former Strikeforce title challenger arrived in style. Although he’d go on to mixed results in his next four fights, ‘The Chosen One’ would score some big scalps. Victories over Carlos Condit, Kelvin Gastelum and Dong Hyun Kim led to Woodley’s first title fight. Facing Robbie Lawler at UFC 201, ‘T-Wood’ came of age with a thunderous trademark KO. As the belt was placed in Woodley’s possession, a bout with Stephen Thompson was quickly talked about.

Although the top ranked contender, ‘Wonderboy’ getting a title shot was uncertain, at first. Woodley was eyeing fights with Georges St-Pierre & Nick Diaz, following the current trend of ‘money fights.’ This had some MMA fans irate, and Woodley discussed the racism he’d been subjected to over social media. Taking it a step further before the eventually scheduled Thompson fight, Woodley all-out claimed the UFC & fans of MMA were racist, and pointing out double standards. Following their thrilling bout at UFC 205, Woodley and Thompson will dance again, and the tune from ‘The Chosen One’ is much the same.

Woodley’s Latest Comments

Appearing during an interview session with ESPN, Tyron Woodley said he’s the ‘worst treated UFC champion’ because of his complexion. Ahead of the rematch at UFC 209, the debate is getting very tense:

“Let’s put the cards on the table,” Woodley said. “Real is real. If I was a different complexion, I think people and fans would treat me a different way. Demetrious Johnson, African-American male, completely a Tasmanian devil. Why don’t he have the big endorsements? Why isn’t he making the most money?”

“The second [former light heavyweight champion] Jon Jones slips on a banana peel — granted, he’s his own worst enemy — but they can’t wait to throw him under the bus. I can point out clear facts that no other champion has been treated like me. I’m not saying (the UFC) supports him more, but (Thompson) sure as heck has some fans that cross the line quite a bit of the time, which is not him. I’m not saying that’s him. I do respect him.”

Continued…

“People don’t like to hear it, but it’s the culture of our sport. We’re dealing with a different set of rules. The UFC fans in general, we go through niches, we go through genres of people we like to fight. This is a genre where they want to see a clean-cut guy like (Thompson) doing a razzle-dazzle, super flashy fighting. Before then, it was guys that would fight to the death. Some people say that’s race in sport. The second I bring up race in sport, I’m immediately race baiting,”

“Going into (the first) fight, I feel like Wonderboy was promoted as he was the champion. I’m the champion. I knocked out the baddest welterweight in the world (Robbie Lawler) in record breaking time. And I don’t get the respect that I deserve. So with that said, don’t have him walk out with American flag like I’m from a different country. Don’t have him paraded around. Don’t have everything revolved around him.”
