Conor McGregor could possibly be stepping into the the boxing ring against Floyd Mayweather Jr. later this year and the combat sports world has mixed reviews on the subject.

One man who thinks McGregor not only should take on Mayweather inside the ring, but also pursue a career in the sport, is mixed martial arts (MMA) coach Mark Henry. Henry knows first-hand what McGregor is capable of, as he dispatched his star pupil Eddie Alvarez in the main event of UFC 205 from Madison Square Garden to win the UFC lightweight title.

Henry recently spoke to MMA Junkie regarding McGregor’s pursuit of Mayweather inside the squared circle, and stated that he believes the Irishman could make way more money in one boxing fight than he would in ’10 or 11 with the UFC’ (quotes via MMA Mania):

“Look, if I was Conor, I would definitely pursue the boxing, because he can make more in one fight than in 10 or 11 with the UFC,” Henry said. “But, while he’s doing it, they should definitely make another 155-pound belt, because it would be ridiculous if they didn’t.”

In addition to that, Henry also claimed that McGregor is one of the best boxers he has ever laid his eyes on, and believes “The Notorious One” has a shot against Mayweather in the first two rounds of the fight. After that, however, it’s going to be a rough night for the UFC lightweight champ:

“Conor is one of the best boxers I’ve ever seen – ever. From his precision to his power to his speed, and I think he has a shot in the first two rounds,” Henry added. “Because Mayweather, like a lot of boxers do when they’re sparring MMA guys, he may not think he’s that good.

“He might not realize how fast Conor is, and you’ve got to remember that Conor is going to be taller, longer, 13 years younger, and a southpaw. Early on, I’d give him a chance of doing some damage. But after that, it’s not going to be too good (for McGregor).”

No agreement for a bout is in place quite yet, as of this writing. Recently, however, it was announced by UFC President Dana White that McGregor’s side of the negotiations have been completed and all that remains is to sit down and negotiate with Mayweather and manager Al Haymon.

Mayweather is know for being difficult to come to an agreement with at the negotiation table, but he did recently state that he believes the fight between him and the MMA star would happen eventually.

Instagram

McGregor has already begun training for the potential contest and took to Twitter to call “Money” out and and tell him to ‘sign his end.’ Although some significant progress has been made to making the superfight happen, this is still only the beginning of the potential fight’s journey.

It wasn’t the most crowd-pleasing bout in UFC history, but welterweight champion Tyron Woodley retained his title over Stephen Thompson in a heavily questioned majority decision result in the main event of last night’s (Sat., March 4, 2017) UFC 209 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

After the fight’s results were announced, fans and media members began to discuss the result, with many unsure how Woodley could win a decision while mostly moving backwards and throwing little volume while doing so for at least three rounds. UFC President Dana White agrees with them, as he told FOX Sports after the fight he had it scored in favor of ‘Wonderboy’:

“I had it 3-2. ‘Wonderboy.’”

When asked if he thought the fight might turn out to be another draw when the strange scores once again came up, White clarified the thought had never crossed his mind. He noted that one of the cageside judges scored the fifth and final round, where Woodley did do some heavy damage to Thompson, a dominant 10-8 for the champ, something White found to be ludicrous:

“I didn’t think it was gonna be a draw; I mean, from the fight that I watched, I had it 3-2 ‘Wonderboy,’ and one of the judges scored the last round 10-8, which is insane.”

But regardless of how he felt the fight should have been scored, White had to accept that Woodley won no matter what, and the fans will have to as well. Typically vague with the direction of the UFC’s plans for the deep welterweight division, White only confirmed that the win, which was Woodley’s first official defense, didn’t help his case too much:

“Tyron’s the champ, he won tonight. But you know, listen, me, the fans, everybody else – we’re not judges. The judges called him the winner tonight so he’s the winner. So we’ll see where we go from here. Listen, this fight didn’t help his case in any way, shape, or form. But I don’t know, we’ll see what happens from here.”

It looks as if November 12’s UFC 205 from Madison Square Garden in New York has added another title fight to its card. According to a report from Bloody Elbow, reigning women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk will put her title on the line against fellow polish combatant and No. 2-ranked contender Karolina Kowalkiewicz.

“Joanna Champion” also took to her official Instagram account to post a picture of herself holding a freshly signed bout agreement:

Kowalkiewicz currently possesses an undefeated 10-0 professional record as well as a 3-0 record inside the Octagon. She’s picked up victories over Randa Marcos, Heather Clark, and former title challenger Rose Namajunas.

Jedrzejczyk, on the other hand, is also undefeated at 12-0, and has defended her strap three times to date. After destroying former champion Carla Esparza in March 2015, the Polish striker has taken out Jessica Penne, Valerie Letorneau, and Claudia Gadelha, looking more impressive each time out.

UFC 205 will also play host to a welterweight title fight between Tyron Woodley and surging contender Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. Also confirmed for the event is a welterweight bout between Donald Cerrone and Kelvin Gastelum, a featherweight bout between Frankie Edgar and Jeremy Stephens, and a middleweight fight between Rashad Evans and Tim Kennedy.

It’s currently unclear which bout will headline the monumental card.

And so it begins.

It appears as though the mega slug-fest that was set to go down between former welterweight champ Robbie Lawler and Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone at UFC 205 in New York is off.

According to a report from TMZ, Lawler has been forced to pull out from the contest for reasons unknown, but the plan is to still have ‘Cowboy’ compete on the massive card.

Lawler’s last Octagon appearance saw him lose his welterweight crown to current title-holder Tyron ‘The Chosen One’ Woodley via round one knockout in the main event of UFC 201 this past July.

‘Ruthless’ was then booked to clash with Cerrone in a fight that had mixed martial arts (MMA) fans chomping at the bit to witness, but alas it is no longer to be.

Cerrone has been on quite the tear as of late since making the jump to 170-pounds, as he most recently defeated No. 11-ranked Rick ‘The Horror’ Story at UFC 202 last month with a vicious combination of strikes.

Fans can still rejoice in the fact that ‘Cowboy’ will still be competing at the history making card from Madison Square Garden, but the loss of the matchup against Lawler is certainly one that stings.

We’ll keep you updated as we learn more…

UFC 202 will air live on pay-per-view (PPV) from the Madison Square Garden arena in New York City on November 12, 2016.

Rumor: Conor McGregor vs. Eddie Alvarez In Works For UFC 205

The UFC’s first show from Madison Square Garden in New York City may have just got it’s main event, and it’s a big one.

According to reports from MMA Insider Dizz on Twitter, negotiations are ongoing to get the UFC’s featherweight and lightweight champions to clash for the 155-pound title, however, McGregor wants to keep his title and defend it early next yer:

Dizz also reports that ‘The Notorious One’ also turned down a movie roll to participate in the UFC’s massive Madison Square Garden event:

McGregor (20-3) is coming off of a huge win over Nate Diaz in their welterweight rematch at UFC 202, where the Irish champ took home a majority decision over the Stockton Native after 25-minutes of pure madness.

UFC President Dana White went on record prior to UFC 202 that ‘win or lose’ McGregor would drop back down to featherweight to defend his title. It appears now that White may have had a change of heart.

Alvarez (28-4) is coming off of the biggest win of his career in which he knocked out the now-former 155-pound champ Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night 95, to become the new lightweight champion and secure his first ever UFC title.

The former Bellator lightweight champion has lost only one contest since joining the UFC, a unanimous decision loss to Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone back in 2014, and has been campaigning heavily for a big money fight with the Irish phenom.

Will Alvarez receive his ‘gimme fight’, as he refers to it, with McGregor?

UFC 205 takes place live on pay-per-view (PPV), from the Madison Square Garden arena in New York City on November 12, 2016.
