Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father, Abulmanap Nurmagmedov says he is “feeling fine” despite reports he had been hospitalized due to pneumonia.
Dagestan sports commentator Ramazan Rabadanov broke the news on Instagram late last week. Alongside a picture of himself and the senior Nurmagomedov, he wrote.
“(He) almost managed to build a park, took out the trash, planted an alley from new trees, put beautiful benches along the roads, and yesterday didn’t come to the park,” Rabadanov wrote “Hopefully the pneumonia doesn’t catch my friend and he comes to the park again.”
“Abdulmanap is in Makhachkala, in the Second City Hospital. He got sick in the mountains,” he said. “He walked for two days, the brothers barely persuaded to go to the hospital. While coronavirus is not confirmed. They say the flu. No one is allowed to visit him. The world champion Shamil Zavurov also fell ill. They say there are other sick athletes.” (translation via RT).
Amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, people were understandably concerned to hear Nurmagomedov was suffering from pneumonia. However, the father of lightweight champion Khabib has now moved to ease fears after days of speculation about his well being. “I feel fine, everything is well,” he told TASS (translation via RT).

That’s according to Dagestan sports commentator Ramazan Rabadanov who posted about the news on Instagram with a picture of himself and the senior Nurmagomedov.

Fortunately, Abdulmanap — who also serves as Nurmagomedov’s coach — has not contracted the coronavirus as Rabadanov later spoke with Championat.com. However, he does have the flu and nobody is allowed to visit him as of now, including Khabib.
They say there are other sick athletes.”
Hopefully Nurmagomedov and everyone close to him have a speedy and full recovery.

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father believes Dubai is a likely landing spot for UFC 249. Nurmagomedov is scheduled to put his UFC lightweight championship on the line against Tony Ferguson on April 18. The bout was initially set to be held inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. That is no longer the case as an executive […]
Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, the father of Khabib Nurmagomedov, believes UFC 249 will happen on April 18 and knows the perfect location for it. Nurmagomedov is expected to defend his lightweight title against Tony Ferguson on that date. Yet, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the UFC postponing the next three events, the status of UFC 249 […]
Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, the father of Khabib Nurmagomedov, believes UFC 249 will happen on April 18 and knows the perfect location for it.
“Most likely it will be Dubai,” Abdulmanap said to RBC Sports in Russia (via MMA Fighting). “Firstly, it’s easier to fight diseases because of the heat. And I think the Emirates will pay for the UFC fight faster and easier. Abu Dhabi may well be, but then, [that’s up to] Dana White. I can’t approve, but there are more chances there.”
The UFC did sign a five-year deal to have one UFC event with a title on the line in Abu Dhabi every year. So, April could very well be the time they go to Abu Dhabi or Dubai for the event.
Even if they go there, the chances of fans being allowed to attend is uncertain. Yet, for the Nurmagomedov’s they don’t care if the event has fans or not.
“Khabib feels great, everything is going according to plan,” Abdulmanap said. “He is not afraid of the coronavirus, we are all mortals. What about empty stands? I think that the audience is good, but without them it is even better.”
Regardless, Dana White has made it clear he will go to extreme lengths to make this fight happen as it is one the world wants to see. Where it will take place is the big question mark right now.
Do you think UFC 249 will take place in Dubai as Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov suggests?
Once again, the UFC has booked a matchup between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson. The pair will headline an April 18 show on pay-per-view (PPV) from Brooklyn, New York. The pair will headline an April 18 show on pay-per-view (PPV) from Brooklyn, New York. Nurmagomedov puts his lightweight strap up for grabs against Ferguson, who is on a 12-fight win streak at the moment. This is the fifth time the UFC has made the matchup, each time previous eventually falling through due to injury (twice each has pulled after getting hurt).
Now, the UFC is hoping the fifth time’s a charm, and according to Khabib’s father, Abdulmanap, speaking to RT Sport, it is a massively important event for the sport of MMA.
“Because this isn’t the first attempt, I think it is one of the most important events in this sport,” Abdulmanap said. “It was planned four times and called off twice because of Khabib and twice because of Tony. Millions of fans are waiting for it.
“There’s never been anything like this in UFC history. It’s the most important fight in UFC history. It is important not only for me but for my republic, my country, and all our supporters.”
Abdulmanap also teased that Khabib might surprise people with his evolved striking game under American Kickboxing Academy’s (AKA) Javier Mendez, however, he won’t stray too far from the usual gameplan set by himself nonetheless.
“Throughout all this time we were able to improve our skills in different aspects, especially striking technique,” Nurmagomedov said. “We surprise [opponents] more and more each time. Javier [Mendez] promises to surprise this time but Khabib won’t stray from his father’s plan.”
Abdulmanap seems to have a healthy respect for what Ferguson can do inside the Octagon, pointing to the several different ways “El Cucuy” has earned victory as of late. Abdulmanap dubbed Ferguson a “worthy” opponent and suggested the training camp for him will reflect as much.
“First of all, he’s got good endurance, a good winning streak,” Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov said. “He’s been caught, but he finishes all his fights with submissions, cuts or technical knockouts. He has a good arsenal, he is a worthy opponent and we are preparing accordingly.”
Who are you picking in Nurmagomedov vs. Ferguson? Do you think the fight will actually happen this time?
