If Anderson Silva gets his wish, fans will be treated to the long-debated dream match between ‘The Spider’ and former welterweight world champion, Georges St-Pierre.

Anderson Silva will step into the squared circle on Saturday night against ‘The Problem Child’ Jake Paul as the two headline a Showtime pay-per-view event. Co-hosting the festivities will be UFC Hall of Famer Georges St-Pierre. Dominating the UFC from different weight classes from 2006-2013, Anderson Silva and GSP are two of the greatest to ever step inside the Octagon.

Competing before the era where super fights and two-division champions were a regular occurrence, fans have often debated over who would have won between the two MMA icons. Perhaps we’ll get an answer to that question after all.

Anderson Silva Loves the Idea of Throwing Hands with GSP in the Boxing Ring

During his appearance at a pre-fight press conference on Thursday, Anderson Silva suggested that a meeting of the two legends could happen inside the squared circle, pending any contractual obligations that GSP may have with the UFC.

“Wow, I think that’s good [on a meeting with St-Pierre in the boxing ring],” Silva said (h/t BJPenn.com). “You know, wow. First of all, you would need to check if GSP is out of the contract with the UFC. Because, I think that GSP could come and do something special same as us, you know. I love it, I love it, it’s so amazing.”

Georges St-Pierre officially retired from the sport in 2019 after capturing the UFC middleweight title at UFC 217. Despite walking away from the sport more than three years ago, ‘Rush’ is believed to still be under contract with the UFC which could prevent him from competing under any other promotion’s banner without consent from Dana White and company. Silva retired a year later, but is no longer under contract with the UFC, allowing himself the opportunity to compete anywhere he chooses.

Since his split from the UFC, ‘The Spider’ has gone on to earn wins inside the boxing ring against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz. He’ll look to make it three in a row against undefeated social media star Jake Paul on October 29th.

Jake Paul

Jake Paul is willing to step into the kickboxing realm if Anderson Silva beats him in their upcoming boxing fight.

Youtube sensation turned boxer, Jake Paul is set to take on the MMA legend, Anderson Silva in a boxing contest this weekend in Glendale, Arizona. Jake is known for upping the stakes of his fights by promising different types of bets for the winner and loser. An example of this is the tattoo bet he had with Tyron Woodley. Well, it was no different leading up to his fight against Silva. However, this time the stakes of the fight were rather unique.

Jake Paul proposed the following bet, which Anderson Silva eagerly accepted:

“If you win, I will fight you in an MMA fight,” Paul said.

“Woah, you so smart because you know I don’t fight MMA anymore,” Silva replied. “You so smart.”

“OK, kickboxing. I got you,” Paul stated.

“Kickboxing?” Silva said. “All right, kickboxing.” (H/T Mmainsight)

Jake Paul open to a kickboxing rematch with Anderson Silva

Jake Paul currently holds a 5 and 0 boxing record with 4 of those 5 wins coming via KO. So, it’s not surprising that Paul is the betting favorite currently, especially after the recent confusing news about Anderson Silva suffering a couple of knockouts in his recent sparring session. That’s something Silva has backtracked afterward.

Part of the bet is also that if Jake Paul wins, Anderson Silva will join him to help create a united fighters’ association, as Jake said:

“But if I win, me and you come together to create a united fighters’ association to help UFC fighters get better pay and better healthcare. You become the interim president and we unite to help these fighters once and for all.”

“Deal. Deal. Deal.”

So, either way, there is something good coming for MMA fans. Either they will get to see Anderson Silva defeat Jake Paul in a boxing contest and then perhaps again in a kickboxing fight. Or, Anderson Silva will join Jake Paul to help combat the fighter pay issue that has become more prevalent in recent years.

According to an initial report from MMA Fighting this Thursday evening, the Arizona state boxing commission are set to hold a special emergency meeting tonight ahead of this weekend’s professional boxing match in Arizona between Jake Paul and Anderson Silva, after the former UFC middleweight champion claimed he had suffered two knockouts in training ahead of the fight.

Yesterday, the ‘Copper State’ clash was cast into jeopardy after Silva had told back in mid-September during an interview that he a sparring partner of his had “knocked me [him] out two times.” during training ahead of his fight with Paul.

Anderson Silva walks back claims he suffered two KOs back in September while training

Following the comments and amid rise of speculation of Silva’s condition ahead of the professional fight, the 47-year-old walked back the severity of the apparent knockouts, insisting that he had mispoken.

“Listen guys, let me tell you something very important,” Anderson Silva said. “When I talk about the guys doing the hard sparring and [them getting[ the knockout, it was just joking. Because I’m training with the young kids and you guys asked me, and I don’t put nothing bad in my mind, and you guys say, ‘Oh, Anderson take knockout in training.’ Of course not. I just like to help and put my partners up, that’s the question.”

In a statement issued to Showtime – who are set to broadcast the fight, Silva insisted once again that he was “NEVER” knocked out in training ahead of the fight.

“After seeing the reports and concern for me, I’d like to clarify two important things,” Anderson Silva said via a statement. “One, I was NEVER knocked out in sparring. I misspoke in that interview as I sometimes do when interviewing in English and exaggerated the normal back-and-forth that occurs in sparring.”

“Second, this sparring session I referenced was in early September. The interview with MMA Weekly was done on Sept. 13 and, for some reason, just released this week. So, it wasn’t recent.”

Silva’s head coach, Luiz Carlos Dorea also denied that Silva had suffered a knockout in training ahead of the fight, with MMA Fighting reporter, Steven Morrocco confirming how the Arizona state boxing commission will hold a special meeting to review “additional documentation submitted by Mr. Anderson Silva to determine his eligibility to compete in an upcoming bout on October 29, 2022.” on Thursday night.
